Abstract

The article represents the features of the narrative strategies of the novel “Shadows in Paradise” by E.M. Remarque in reflection of the subject world of New York. The symbolism of the name of the work through the modes of urbanismn has been explored. The author finds out a set of attributive parameters for interpreting New York’s artistic semiosis. It is determined that streets, houses, cafes and skyscrapers form the architectural space of a metropolis, which is indicated by dynamism and sophistication of style. It is analyzed that the natural sphere of the city organically supplements the physical sphere with the characteristics of climate, daily time, meteorological phenomena and the animal world. The reception of New York is indicated by the aesthetics of the landscape, creating a sensual world of heroes through the modes of anthropocentrism of attributive reality. The features of the post-traumatic emigrant syndrome, which does not lose the feeling of aesthetics and optimism in building a new life in the subject world of the metropolis, are characterized. It was found that the true comprehension of the civilizational greatness of the city is carried out in terms of height and width, due to which the unlimited and immense space of New York was created.
