Abstract

The purpose of this integrative review was to analyze studies focused on the perspectives and concerns of Asian immigrant parents of children with disabilities. Key word searches were used to identify articles from electronic databases over a 19-year period from 2000 through 2019. Each study includes in this review met the inclusion criteria. Additionally, practical application and/or theoretical literature articles were analyzed in this review to support the concept and/or understanding of Asian culture. Fourteen articles, met all inclusion criteria, were reviewed, analyzed systematically, and summarized into three categories, which were: (a) Asian culture, (b) raising and educating children with disabilities, and (c) challenges of Asian parents of children with disabilities. Based on the findings of several research studies, Asian immigrant parents of children with disabilities need more comprehensive supports and assistant from professionals and focused attention from scholars in the physical education contexts to apprise school professionals to be culturally sensitive while working with Asian immigrant parents of children with disabilities.
