Abstract

This article aims to understand the processes by which the Sogdians were able to become ḏimmīs during the first half of the 8th century, on the basis of textual data, drawn from the accounts of the conquest, and archaeological data—the destruction of temples—and by proposing a parallel with the simultaneous conquest of Sind.
