Abstract

In "An Uncommon Story", I. A. Goncharov uses a number of concepts in order to interpret the issues related to literary property and unsolicited borrowings: imitation, parallel, borrowing, theft. His key metaphor, however, is the one that goes back to Horace, to follow in someone’s footsteps, and it allows the writer to distinguish between the concepts of plagiarism and forgery (contrefaçon), as well as to formulate his ideas about the limits of copyright.
