Abstract

The narrative in stories “Hunter Tormita” by Andrey Krivoshapkin, a vivid representative of the modern Evenk prose, has not been previously subjected to literary and critical analysis. For the first time, relying on rich artistic material, the paper examines such a non-verbal phenomenon as the Evens’ spiritual and everyday culture. Using the hermeneutic approach, the researcher identifies the ethno-esthetical context of the Evens’ cultural realia, reveals certain aspects of their pagan worldview, ascertains thematic similarity of the story with Krivoshapkin’s earlier work - the ethnographical poem “The Even’s World” - and concludes that the nomadic hunting lifestyle is a basis of the Even spiritual and everyday culture, a foundation of Tormita’s character and behaviour.
