The first war occurred in the early of 60s of the 20th century. The outcome of this war largely depended on the position of Great Britain, which tried to maintain its influence in the south of the Arabian Peninsula
The purpose of this paper is to identify alternatives in British policy during the civil war in Yemen in its most acute phase in 1963–1964

Debates in the British Ruling Circles on the Issue of the Armed Intervention in the Civil War in Yemen in 1963–1964. Целью данной работы является выявление альтернатив в политике Великобритании в отношении гражданской войны в Йемене в момент ее наиболее острой фазы в 1963–1964 гг., проявившихся в дискуссии в рядах консерваторов. Джонстона раскритиковал планы Форин оффис удерживать военное присутствие Великобритании в Адене до 1967 г., считая, что временной рубеж, необходимый для трансформации колониальной политики в Южной Аравии, должен сместиться как минимум к 1970 г.
