Abstract

Based on the method of computational fluid dynamics using the ANSYS Fluent software package, the combustion process in the Claus furnace of sour gas containing ammonia was simulated. The vortex dissipation model was used to describe the chemical kinetics of combustion (Eddy-dissipation model). The object of study was the sulfur recovery unit of the Heavy Residue Processing Complex. Options for increasing the efficiency of the process of burning ammonia-containing sour gases, depending on the scheme for supplying acid to the furnace, its moisture content, as well as the temperature of air and sour gases at the furnace inlet were considered.
