Abstract

Russia's economy has experienced several major crises over the past few decades. However, the unique response of the Russian labor market to economic shocks was not an increase in unemployment, but primarily changes in wages, which offset the negative macroeconomic effects. In the current situation, with the ongoing Ukrainian crisis, as well as under the influence of anti-Russian sanctions of Western countries, the Russian labor market is inevitably preparing to undergo significant changes. In addition, the labor market in Russia today is significantly influenced by the global digital transition, which causes an urgent need for the transformation of training models for workers. Thus, this article offers a broad overview of the nature and peculiarities of the Russian labor market through its history, and identifies areas for its change and adaptation to the current external challenges.
