Abstract

The paper describes the development of a concept for bottom-heated induction melting in cold crucible (CCIM-BH) applied for radioactive waste vitrification purposes. It presents experimental and theoretical research data that can be used in the design development of industrial high-performance radioactive waste vitrification facilities. The paper provides experimental data involving electrical and energy characteristics of the melters. Based on 2D simulation of electromagnetic and hydrodynamic processes, the study evaluates the distributed parameters of induction systems demonstrating CCIM-BH features and advantages.
