Abstract

The aim of the work is to determine the author’s connotation and the traditional semantic background of the floronym “snowdrop” in the poetics of symbolism, using K. D. Balmont’s, F. K. Sologub’s and A. I. Tokayev’s poems as examples. Scientific novelty of the paper lies in developing the idea of a specific interpretation of the hyponym “snowdrop” in symbolic discourse from the viewpoint of the modernist worldview; it is the first time in the history of Russian and Ossetian literary studies that the texts of the selected authors about the first spring flower are being analysed together. As a result of the research, both commonalities in the interpretation of the image of the snowdrop (hope, courage) and its purely individual semantic load (divine projection, neo-mythologism, duality) have been identified.
