Abstract

The author addresses the issue of the multi-layered nature of a musical work, which can exist in three forms — mental (conceptualized), visual (encoded in musical notation), and auditory (audible) text. A deep understanding of the author's intention is facilitated by the analyst's attention to various details, which can be noticed due to professional experience and the position of a "distinguished interlocutor" engaging in a dialogue with the composer.
