Abstract
The study aims to identify semantic and functional features, differences and commonalities of verbal means of expression related to the semantic category “lie”, including phraseological units, in French and Russian. The research is novel in that a systemic contrastive analysis of the lexico-semantic group of verbs actualising the meaning of verbal deception in the specified language pair is carried out for the first time. As a result of the study, a comprehensive list of means of expression belonging to the semantic category “lie” in both the languages is compiled, isomorphic and allomorphic features characterising the plane of expression and deep semantic structure of the studied units in French and Russian are discovered.
