Abstract

The article considers the living environment of the cultural and educational institutions of the People’s Commissariat of Education in the Komi ASSR in the years of the Great Patriotic War. Relying on archival sources the author analyses everyday difficulties, which libraries and reading rooms came across in the wartime, such as repairs, heating, light, installation of a broadcasting system, material supply. The paper examines the solutions suggested by the local authorities and cultural and educational workers: appeal for public assistance, using the resources of other institutions, announcing competition. It is shown that everyday problems made it difficult to achieve the goals set before cultural and educational institutions in the wartime.
