Abstract
The article analyses the main stages of the development and reformation of the border department, identifies the main mechanisms of state response that influenced the state border security, examines their impact on various aspects of operational activities of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and analyses the causes and mistakes that led to annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and emergence of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
