Листи українського історика Мирона Кордуби у фондах відділу рукописів Бібліотеки Національного інституту імені Оссолінських у Вроцлаві (Польща)

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to process and publish letters of the Ukrainian statesman, scientist, publicist, historian and writer Myron Korduba (1876–1947) to Polish colleagues Stanislaw Zakszewski and Tadeusz Wyslotski, which are deposited in the manuscripts department of the library at the Ossolinski National Institute in Wroclaw. The methodological basis of the work is an interdisciplinary approach. At the same time, philosophical, general-scientifi c and specifi c-historical methods are applied as well. Methods of structural and functional system analysis of historiographical facts and the method of critical analysis of documentary material have been particularly important in research implementation. Scientifi c novelty: the letters of Myron Korduba (1876–1947), a famous politician, scholar, publicist, historian and writer, have been published for the fi rst time. The letters are stored in Ossolinski National Institute in Wroclaw. They are addressed to Korduba’s Polish colleagues Stanislav Zakszewski and Tadeusz Wyslotski. The addressees discuss private issues as well as the problems of creative work. In letters to S. Zakszewski, the Ukrainian historian congratulates his colleague on being elected a full member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences in Krakow as well as asks for protection in the case of his innocently arrested daughter Stefania, a student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Lviv University. In other letters he cites sources from the Lithuanian-Rus chronicle to support his hypothesis that the Polish King Jagiello intended to marry a representative of the Ukrainian noble family. In his letter to the editor-in-chief of the Krakow magazine «Ruch Slowianski», T. Wyslotski, historian discusses the confl ict that has arisen between the editorial board and Ukrainian staff. Polish observers of Ukrainian life clearly preferred moscophile publications. This resulted in publishing of contemptuous assessments of the cultural activities of patriotic citizens in Eastern Galicia. Despite the fact that the incorrectness of such an editorial policy was repeatedly explained to Wyslotski, the expected changes did not take place. Therefore, M. Korduba in his letter announced the resignation from the editorial staff. It has been concluded that cooperation between the Ukrainian historian and Polish scientists in the interwar period was well-established.
