Abstract
In the article, the authors make an attempt to conduct a systemic research where the conception of individual freedom is put in the context of the modern literary process and considered with regard to national, mental, gender, and psychological characterristics. The specific forms of artistic understanding of the problem of a human personality’s freedom and unfreedom are studied, the peculiarities of using artistic devices to create a female national character under the conditions of unfreedom in G. Yakhina’s novel “Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes” and, in addition, the key plot moments of the novel, within which the female character is formed, are analysed.
