Abstract

The paper aims to examine how the chivalric romance chronotope is manifested in Max Frei’s novel “Chimeras’ Nests. The Chronicles of Ovёtganna”. The research is novel in that it is the first to analyse “Chimeras’ Nests. The Chronicles of Ovёtganna” from the stated perspective. The research findings amount to the fact that in Max Frei’s work, just as in chivalric romance, firstly, chance not only determines the hero’s life, but is also personalised by images of magical creatures and objects; secondly, time breaks down into a number of segmented adventures and is hyperbolised, unusual and wonderful things are equated. It has been found that the chivalric romance chronotope is not only the most important structure-forming model for this fantasy novel, but it is also travestied by the prose writer into the domestic sphere.
