SUMMARYSpores or living cells of Humicola lutea 120–5 fungal strain were entrapped in calcium alginate and polyacrylamide gels and were cultivated to form an immobilized mycelium further used for acid proteinases production. The effect of immobilization conditions on the morphology-physiological status of cells and enzyme synthesis was investigated. Significant differences in morphological characteristics and proteolytic activity of immobilized mycelium after entrapping of living cells in polyacrylamide gel in comparison with spores were established. No differences were observed when spores or living cells were entrapped in calcium alginate gel.
