Abstract

The miniature editions from the fond of the Department of Foreign Uсrainica of the Institute of Bibliology of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine which were published in the Ukrainian diaspora in the second half of the 20 century are analyzed. The motives, place and purpose of their production are established, the book description is made, the characteristic features and content of these editions are determined. Their role and purpose are revealed. The origin of the mini-books has been clarifi ed. The purpose of the publication is to determine, based on the analysis of the texts of miniature publications and other documents of the diaspora, the authenticity of their origin, causes, authors of publications in them, place and year of publication and presentation of bibliographic description. Methodology. The research is based on methodological principles related to the general scientifi c principles of historicism, scientifi c objectivity, impartiality, scientifi c reliability and comprehensiveness. Mini-books were attributed through the use of search, bibliographic and documentary methods, which made it possible to analyze the external and internal characteristics of the mini-publications, to clarify their features, conformity of the content of mini-books to the original sources from which they were reprinted. Scientifi c novelty. Based on the analysis of miniature editions, their primary sources and other thematically related literature, the appearance of history of these editions is refl ected, the ways of their attribution are established and separate mini-books are attributed, their role and purpose are determined. Prospects for further researches. Miniature publications from the fond of the Department of Foreign Uсrainica of VNLU, numbering more than a hundred documents, were analyzed selectively. The ultimate goal is to attribute all available storage units of miniature books and to acquaint the general scientifi c and readership with their content, which, in our opinion, is of great importance for the formation of collective memory, integrity of Ukrainian history and book culture. Conclusions. Miniature publications from the fond of the Department of Foreign Uсrainica have signifi cant scientifi c and source-information potential, are witnesses of their era, a strong proof of the exceptional role of the book in shaping the national consciousness and identity of the reader.
