Abstract
The decisions taken at the forty-fifth session of the World Heritage Committee regarding the World Natural Heritage sites located on Russian territory are analyzed. The most common problems characteristic of the majority of Russian unique natural complexes of global importance are noted. Gaps in the regulatory and legal consolidation of the World Natural heritage protection regime in legislation, acute conflicts related to the need to harmonize environmental requirements and infrastructure development are identified. The legal positions of the World Heritage Committee regarding the implementation of capital construction within the boundaries of World Heritage sites are analyzed. The constructive nature of the decisions adopted at the forty-fifth session of the World Heritage Committee is stated, proposals are formulated to improve legislation in the field of protection of World Natural heritage sites. The necessity of introducing amendments to the Federal Law “On Specially Protected Natural Territories”, defining the features of the protection of natural complexes of international importance, is substantiated. The importance of taking into account the modern climate agenda in ensuring the preservation of World Natural Heritage sites is emphasized.
