Abstract

The article examines comparison as an interdisciplinary category. The paper aims to describe specificity of translating original similes by the material of T. Pratchett’s novels of the Discworld series. The research methodology includes the structural-semantic analysis method. Special attention is paid to analysing semantically paradoxical combinations of components in the structure of a simile. Existence of these combinations at the level of a vehicle is identified. Peculiarities of similes translation conditioned by existence of semantically paradoxical combinations of components at different levels of a simile structure are revealed.
