Abstract

The undertaken research is aimed at identifying the determinism of the characters of the heroes of the novel "A Hero of Our Time" not so much by the ideological content of the era of the 30s. XIX century, how much of its economic content, as the era of industrialization, aimed at establishing commodity-money relations. The purpose of the article is to determine the value of the factor of money as a marker of the era of industrialization in the construction of human relations of the heroes of the novel and the degree of aberration of moral values, which causes their expression in commodity-money equivalent. The main research method is the comparative-historical method, aimed at identifying and comparing the contexts in which the situations of bargaining or transactions vary in the chapters of the novel, expressed in certain monetary equivalents. As a result of the study, the degree of devaluation of moral values and aberration of consciousness of the heroes of the novel is determined, the motivation of whose actions is determined by the influence of the "industrial age".
