Abstract

The paper explores activities of the manager of the Moscow Imperial Theater A.A. Maykov. The narrative covers the first and least studied period of his activity (1810 – the first half of 1812). Despite a short and little studied period of time, it was at this stage, thanks to the efforts, perseverance and providence of A.A. Maykov, that the necessary conditions were created to ensure the further development of the Moscow stage: the infrastructure at the disposal of the theater directorate was preserved, ways to overcome heavy debt obligations were outlined, the theater school was reformed. These achievements became the basis for the creation of the Bolshoi Theater in the form, meaning and in the place where it remains today. The author also pays special attention to the circumstances under which A.A. Maikov agreed to head the Moscow theater.
