Abstract

The article deals with the peculiarities of lexical units translation in the novels “The Master and Margarita” by M. A. Bulgakov and “Martin Eden” by Jack London from Russian into English and from English into Russian. The history of translation studies, theoretical questions, key conceptions and factors influencing the adequacy of the translation are touched upon. In the work the authors analyze the examples of constructing phrases in different-system languages and ways of translating them. The examples from novels and their analysis are given. The paper considers comparison as a means of figurativeness and expressiveness, its types and functions.
