Abstract

The aim of the study is to reconstruct the lexical-semantic field of the lexeme “tea” in Russian and English. The article analyses the meaning components of this lexeme and its syntagmatic relations. Explanatory, word-building dictionaries and compatibility dictionaries were chosen as the material. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time the range of compatibility of the word “tea” in Russian and English is compared, the differences are identified and the reasons for their appearance are analysed. As a result, a classification of tea characteristics that are significant for native speakers has been developed, and the main features of the presented semantic field that are important for the Russian and English linguistic cultures have been identified.
