Abstract

This article considers the conflict that occurred between the chairman of the Taganrog Institute for the Scientific Organization of Production P.M. Esmansky and the manager of the commercial part, a member of the administrative board S.L. Volmir on the basis of unpublished archival sources stored in the Taganrog branch of the State Archive of the Rostov Region, which are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The problem of conflicts raised by us among the leadership of the Taganrog Institute for the Scientific Organization of Production has not been considered by historians. This conflict occurred in 1924 and began because of the desire of the manager of the commercial part, S.L. Volmir in the conditions of the New Economic Policy to conduct commercial activities and gain power in the Taganrog Institute for the Scientific Organization of Production. His opponent was the chairman of the Institute, P.M. Esmansky, who did not trust his subordinate because of the greed for profit that was characteristic of enterprising people during the New Economic Policy, as well as misuse during Volmir's business trip to Moscow. In this conflict, Esmansky had the support of another member of the administrative board, A.A. Andreeva. He blocked any Volmir proposals in the college. Enlisting the support of other employees of the Institute, as well as taking advantage of the terms of the agreement concluded between Volmir and the Institute, which included payments for the management of mines that were not transferred to the organization, Esmansky managed to emerge victorious in this conflict. Despite his departure, Volmir achieved compensation for him.
