Abstract
The political transformation of Russian society, caused by the Revolution of 1917 and the Civil War, led to a strong ideological stratification of society. But the choice of one of the opposing sides was especially acute for the military, and above all for the officers. During the First World War, this layer of the army underwent significant social changes, replenished with yesterday's civilians, who came from a peasant-philistine environment. These people in the military-revolutionary period of 1917-1922 sometimes became key participants in the fratricidal confrontation. The inevitable consequence of any war is captivity. The study of this phenomenon, along with a general understanding of front-line events, reveals a number of important issues in the functioning of military society, such as the moral and psychological stamina of the troops, the methodology of the army special services, the manifestation of humanity towards the enemy, etc. In order to expand our understanding of the situation on the Eastern Front of the Red Army and the defense of the White armies in the Trans-Urals in the summer and autumn of 1919, the reader is presented with an analytical review prepared by the White counterintelligence following the interrogation of the Red Army battalion commander Osminin, captured on the Tobol on August 18, 1919. A certified copy of this document was found in the Historical Archive of the Omsk Region. The purpose of our work is an analytical study of the information potentials of this source in order to introduce it into scientific circulation. The genre features of the presentation determined the theoretical basis of the study - the principle of consistency, anthropological approach, and comparative historical and historical biographical methods. This methodological set made it possible to consider the events under study in the general context of the situation of hostilities, linking the historical conditions for the appearance of the source with specific individuals. The work may be of interest to a wide range of readers, primarily among them - researchers of the history of the Civil War in Russia, the Red and White armies, anti-Bolshevik secret services, as well as the issue of military captivity in this period.
