Abstract

The paper aims to reveal linguistic specificity of the articles “Crimes against Life and Health” in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and the Model Penal Code of the United States of America taking into account typical nomination mechanisms and syntactic models of complex nominative units. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that nominations of crimes against life and health are for the first time considered in the comparative aspect, with a view to identify the dominant features of nomination. The conducted research allows revealing the following mechanisms of crime nominations formation: clarifying significative meaning, metonymy and conversion. Poly-lexeme nomination models are determined by the language structure: similarity is revealed only at the level of semantic valence.
