Abstract

The article is devoted to studying correlation of music and poetry in Edison Denisov’s vocal creative work. The problem is examined on the basis of comparing the “Nocturnes” vocal cycle and the poetical source - poems of the ancient Chinese poet Bai Juyi in L. Z. Eidlin’s translation. The researcher describes the “thaw” period in the Soviet art as a period when the cycle was created. Political cause for revival of the Russian-Chinese relations at the end of the 1940s - the beginning of the 1950s is identified. Denisov’s methods to work with Bai Juyi’s poetry are examined, the Russian composer’s attitude to images of the Chinese culture and musical stylistics of the composition are analysed.
