Summary
In the context of reforming the sphere of education, actualization of the historical experience of the functioning of different types of schools is actualized in the Ukrainian lands at the end of the XVIII – early XX centuries. The purpose of this article is to find out the participation of peasant self-government bodies in the functioning of church parish schools of the Ukrainian leftbank dioceses of the Russian Empire in the second half of the ХІХ and early ХХ centuries. The achievement of the questions posed by solving the following tasks: to analyze the attitude of the bodies of rural self-government to the functioning of church parish schools; Understand the question of the ability of peasants to finance and support them; to study the problem of understanding the needs of peasants in the material support of church schools and their awareness of the role of education in the life of the peasant community
