Abstract

The paper aims to reveal functional and structural-semantic peculiarities of the original similes used to describe secondary world in T. Pratchett’s Discworld novels. The article considers specificity of the fantasy genre, analyses the Russian translations of original similes. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher for the first time examines the problem of translating original simile as a means to describe secondary world in the comic fantasy genre. The conducted research allows conclu-ding that the writer widely uses original similes to describe secondary world, thus he tries to emphasize its unusual nature.
