Abstract

In the article on the material of memoirs of graduates of the Faculty of History of the Lomonosov Moscow State University the specific ethos characteristic of this subculture in the second half of the 1930s and the first half of the 1940s is considered. The author describes this ethos as complex, including academic ethos, political (or civil) ethos, and ethos of interpersonal relations. The analysis of sources shows that often these three elements were not separated in students' ethical perceptions and discourse. This syncretism of ethos brings them closer to the pre-revolutionary liberal Russian intelligentsia, although the political orientation of these two groups was different.
