Abstract

Th e article analyzes the transformation of Asset Recovery in the new round of sanctions against the Russian Federation. Authors are viewing Asset Recovery through the prism of economic sanctions. Th e article briefl y describes the history and develop- ment of sanctions mechanisms as well as the evolution of Asset Recovery. Th e authors come to conclusion that Asset Recov- ery originally created as Anti-Money Laundering component has evolved over time into an independent institution of state economic security and became an instrument for implement- ing political decisions. In the context of dramatically increased economic pressure on Russia all components of the Asset Re- covery System: the regulatory framework, combination of State bodies, the system of inter-agency and international relations etc. are being transformed.
