A cross‐sectional analysis of TikTok's most popular dermal filler videos

AbstractBackgroundDermal filler injections pose serious risks when administered by untrained individuals or when food and drug administration (FDA) guidelines are not adhered to. This issue may potentially be compounded by a growing reliance on social media platforms for health information.ObjectiveOur objective was to analyze the quality of health information in videos published on dermal filler on TikTok.MethodsWe searched three hashtags, #filler (2.4 billion views), #dermalfiller (132.8 million views), and #fillersinjection (137.0 million views) and assessed the top videos returned by TikTok's algorithm that met inclusion criteria. The quality of health information was evaluated using the DISCERN instrument, a validated tool that uses a 1 to 5 scale to assess consumer health information.ResultsVideos received a mean DISCERN score of 1.64 (SD 0.33), indicating significantly low quality. 7% of the videos promoted non‐FDA‐approved uses of filler. Notably, videos posted by physician assistants or physicians received the highest mean scores (1.92 and 1.72) as well as videos categorized as educational (1.99).ConclusionDermatologists should be aware of the high viewership of low‐quality TikTok videos on dermal filler. Dermatologists shall, therefore, understand the importance of their role in providing education to patients on this topic.

Validation of the Quality Analysis of Medical Artificial Intelligence (QAMAI) tool: a new tool to assess the quality of health information provided by AI platforms.

The widespread diffusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms is revolutionizing how health-related information is disseminated, thereby highlighting the need for tools to evaluate the quality of such information. This study aimed to propose and validate the Quality Assessment of Medical Artificial Intelligence (QAMAI), a tool specifically designed to assess the quality of health information provided by AI platforms. The QAMAI tool has been developed by a panel of experts following guidelines for the development of new questionnaires. A total of 30 responses from ChatGPT4, addressing patient queries, theoretical questions, and clinical head and neck surgery scenarios were assessed by 27 reviewers from 25 academic centers worldwide. Construct validity, internal consistency, inter-rater and test-retest reliability were assessed to validate the tool. The validation was conducted on the basis of 792 assessments for the 30 responses given by ChatGPT4. The results of the exploratory factor analysis revealed a unidimensional structure of the QAMAI with a single factor comprising all the items that explained 51.1% of the variance with factor loadings ranging from 0.449 to 0.856. Overall internal consistency was high (Cronbach's alpha = 0.837). The Interclass Correlation Coefficient was 0.983 (95% CI 0.973-0.991; F (29,542) = 68.3; p < 0.001), indicating excellent reliability. Test-retest reliability analysis revealed a moderate-to-strong correlation with a Pearson's coefficient of 0.876 (95% CI 0.859-0.891; p < 0.001). The QAMAI tool demonstrated significant reliability and validity in assessing the quality of health information provided by AI platforms. Such a tool might become particularly important/useful for physicians as patients increasingly seek medical information on AI platforms.

Evaluation of online text-based information resources of gynaecological cancer symptoms.

Gynaecological cancer symptoms are often vague and non-specific. Quality health information is central to timely cancer diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate the quality of online text-based patient information resources regarding gynaecological cancer symptoms. A targeted website search and Google search were conducted to identify health information resources published by the Australian government and non-government health organisations. Resources were classified by topic (gynaecological health, gynaecological cancers, cancer, general health); assessed for reading level (Simple Measure of Gobbledygook, SMOG) and difficulty (Flesch Reading Ease, FRE); understandability and actionability (Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool, PEMAT, 0-100), whereby higher scores indicate better understandability/actionability. Seven criteria were used to assess cultural inclusivity specific for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; resources which met 3-5 items were deemed to be moderately inclusive and 6+ items as inclusive. A total of 109 resources were identified and 76% provided information on symptoms in the context of gynaecological cancers. The average readability was equivalent to a grade 10 reading level on the SMOG and classified as 'difficult to read' on the FRE. The mean PEMAT scores were 95% (range 58-100) for understandability and 13% (range 0-80) for actionability. Five resources were evaluated as being moderately culturally inclusive. No resource met all the benchmarks. This study highlights the inadequate quality of online resources available on pre-diagnosis gynaecological cancer symptom information. Resources should be revised in line with the recommended standards for readability, understandability and actionability and to meet the needs of a culturally diverse population.

Evaluation of the Quality and Readability of Online Information about Alzheimer’s Disease in China

Background: With the increasing popularity of the internet, a growing number of patients and their companions are actively seeking health-related information online. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the quality and readability of online information about Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in China. Methods: A total of 263 qualified AD-related web pages from different businesses, governments, and hospitals were obtained. The quality of the web pages was assessed using the DISCERN tool, and the readability of the web pages was assessed using a readability measurement website suitable for the Chinese language. The differences in readability and quality between different types of web pages were investigated, and the correlation between quality and readability was analyzed. Results: The mean overall DISCERN score was 40.93±7.5. The government group scored significantly higher than the commercial and hospital groups. The mean readability score was 12.74±1.27, and the commercial group had the lowest readability score. There was a positive correlation between DISCERN scores and readability scores. Conclusions: This study presents an evaluation of the quality and readability of health information pertaining to AD in China. The findings indicate that there is a need to enhance the quality and readability of web pages about AD in China. Recommendations for improvement are proposed in light of these findings.

Connection Between Knowing and Doing? A Mixed Methods Exploration of Librarian Wellness Behaviors

ABSTRACT The authors examined the relationship between access to or use of health information resources by health sciences librarians (HSLs) and non-HSLs. We wanted to know if, compared to non-HSLs, increased access to and use of health information by HSLs was associated with more frequent performance of wellness behaviors. : A survey containing questions about access to health information resources, the use of health information resources, the frequency of the performance of wellness behaviors and barriers and facilitators to performing these behaviors was sent via e-mail to members of over 60 library organizations. A total of 1913 librarians responded to the survey. We found no difference between the HSLs and the non-HSLs by age or sex but HSLs were more likely to have master’s degrees or higher, work more hours, and to work in institutions that provide access to vaccines and/or wellness programs. HSLs have greater access to and use quality health information resources more often than do non-HSLs. Compared to non-HSLs, HSLs exercise more and eat more fruits and vegetables. Non-HSLs, however, are more likely to engage in regular spiritual activities. Barriers to performing wellness behaviors included lack of time, lack of motivation, fatigue, and chronic pain whereas facilitators included positive social support for wellness behaviors. Our data show that access to health information and frequency of use is correlated with the performance of wellness behaviors. While access to health information can work to nudge people to engage in healthy habits, information by itself is not enough.

Does YouTube™ Provide Adequate Information on Oral Health During Pregnancy?

Background This study aimed to assess the reliability, quality, and content of the information provided by YouTube™videos on oral health during pregnancy to reveal the effectiveness of the videos for patients. Methodology This cross-sectional study was conducted by two experienced dental specialists. They initiated the study by searching for YouTube™ videos using the keyword 'pregnancy oral health'. The videos were then assessed based on various parameters, including origin, type, number of days since upload, duration, number of views, number of likes and dislikes, and number of comments. The specialists also calculated the interaction index and viewing rate. The reliability and quality of the videos were evaluated using the global quality scale (GQS) and modified DISCERN (mDISCERN) scales, while the content was assessed with the comprehensiveness tailor-made index. The data were analyzed with the Shapiro-Wilk, the Kruskal-Wallis, the post-hoc Bonferroni, and Fisher's exact tests. The significance level was set at P < 0.05. Results After reviewing initially 224 videos, 129 were included in the study. Health professionals were the publishers of most videos. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between content scores and video duration, number of comments, interaction index, and total DISCERN scores (p<0.05) (r=0.445, r=0.186, r=0.552, r=0.241, r=0.200, r=0.681, respectively). Statistically significant associations were found between GQS scores, video duration, number of comments, and total mDISCERN scores(p<0.05) (r=0.510, r=225, r=0.156, r=0.768, respectively).Statistically significant relationships were identified between the total content score, video source, and GQS (p<0.05).According to the total content score, 57.4% of the videos had a score of 2, 35.7% had a score of 1, and only 7% had a score of0. Conclusions This study's findings underscore the significant variability in the scientific accuracy, content, and quality of health information on the Internet, particularly on YouTube™. It reveals that, while there are videos that provide rich content and high-quality information, there are also poor-quality and inadequate videos that may mislead patients. Health professionals should be aware of misinformation found on YouTube™ and ensure that patients always have access to accurate and reliable information.

Contents analysis of thyroid cancer-related information uploaded to YouTube by physicians in Korea: endorsing thyroid cancer screening, potentially leading to overdiagnosis

BackgroundThyroid cancer overdiagnosis is a major public health issue in South Korea, which has the highest incidence rate. The accessibility of information through the Internet, particularly on YouTube, could potentially impact excessive screening. This study aimed to analyze the content of thyroid cancer-related YouTube videos, particularly those from 2016 onwards, to evaluate the potential spread of misinformation.MethodsA total of 326 videos for analysis were collected using a video search protocol with the keyword “thyroid cancer” on YouTube. This study classified the selected YouTube videos as either provided by medical professionals or not and used topic clustering with LDA (latent dirichlet allocation), sentiment analysis with KoBERT (Korean bidirectional encoder representations from transformers), and reliability evaluation to analyze the content. The proportion of mentions of poor prognosis for thyroid cancer and the categorization of advertising content was also analyzed.ResultsVideos by medical professionals were categorized into 7 topics, with “Thyroid cancer is not a ‘Good cancer’” being the most common. The number of videos opposing excessive thyroid cancer screening decreased gradually yearly. Videos advocating screening received more favorable comments from viewers than videos opposing excessive thyroid cancer screening. Patient experience videos were categorized into 6 topics, with the “Treatment process and after-treatment” being the most common.ConclusionThis study found that a significant proportion of videos uploaded by medical professionals on thyroid cancer endorse the practice, potentially leading to excessive treatments. The study highlights the need for medical professionals to provide high-quality and unbiased information on social media platforms to prevent the spread of medical misinformation and the need for criteria to judge the content and quality of online health information.

Quality and Readability Assessment of Web-based Arabic Health Information on Early Childhood Caries

Abstract Background: Patients are increasingly using the internet for searching health-related information. However, the quality and readability of the information available on the internet need to be assessed. To date, no study has assessed the quality and readability of web-based Arabic health information on early childhood caries. Objectives: To evaluate the quality and readability of patient-oriented online Arabic health information regarding early childhood caries. Materials and Methods: For this infodemiological study, the Google and Yahoo search engines were searched using specific Arabic terms for early childhood caries, and the top 100 searches from both search engines were considered. Eligible websites were categorized in terms of affiliation as commercial, health portal, dental practice, professional, and journalism. The quality of the websites was assessed using the QUality Evaluation Scoring Tool (QUEST), and readability using the Gunning Fog index (GFI). Results: A total of 140 websites were included after applying the exclusion criteria, of which 50.7% websites were of journalism. The majority of the websites (70%) had an overall low-quality level, with a QUEST score &lt;10. The quality of websites retrieved from Google searches was of significantly higher quality than those from Yahoo (P &lt; 0.0001). More than half (51.4%) of the websites had good readability, with a GFI score ≤8. Journalism websites had a significantly higher proportion of websites with poor readability level (62%) compared with other affiliations (P = 0.0072). Conclusion: The web-based Arabic information regarding early childhood caries is currently of low quality and moderate readability level, thereby indicating a need for improving such patient-facing content.

Comparative Assessment of Online Written Health Information on Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction in English and Hindi Language Webpages

Objectives: To assess and compare the overall quality of online written information on the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in English and Hindi language webpages. Also, correlates of the quality of online health information were explored. Methods: First 50 links obtained on Google search in both English and Hindi language were screened, and a total of 86 (45 English, 41 Hindi) webpages providing patient-oriented information on the treatment of ED were analysed. Content quality and reliability were assessed using the DISCERN scale and the JAMA benchmark criteria respectively. Additionally, aesthetics, interactivity, and readability were evaluated. Results: The DISCERN score indicative of content quality was significantly higher for English webpages compared to Hindi webpages. English webpages were more likely to meet disclosure and attribution JAMA criteria for the reliability of medical information. English webpages with HONcode certification were more likely to have better content quality than those without it. However, none of the Hindi web pages analyzed were HONcode certified. Conclusion: English language webpages provided better overall quality of information on treatment of ED as compared to Hindi language. HONcode label might be used as a proxy indicator of better content quality for online resources informing on ED treatment by laypersons. There is a need to develop and popularize the usage of HONcode or other similar online health information quality accreditation systems for webpages in non-English languages like Hindi.

Cosmetic Contact Lenses in the United Kingdom: Assessment of Online Regulation and Quality of Consumer Health Information.

To determine the compliance of online vendors to the UK Opticians Act 1989 Section 27 requirements and safety regulations for cosmetic contact lens (CCL) sales and the quality of online CCL health information. The top 50 websites selling CCLs on each three search engines, namely Google, Yahoo, and Bing, were selected. Duplicates were removed, and the remaining websites were systematically analyzed in February 2023. UK legal authorization for CCL sales was assessed using the Opticians Act Section 27 and safety regulations determined by the presence of Conformité Européene (CE) marking. The quality and reliability of online information was graded using the DISCERN (16-80) and JAMA (0-4) scores by two independent reviewers. Forty-seven eligible websites were analyzed. Only six (12.7%) met the UK legal authorization for CCL sales. Forty-nine different brands of CCLs were sold on these websites, of which 13 (26.5%) had no CE marking. The mean DISCERN and JAMA benchmark scores were 26 ± 12.2 and 1.3 ± 0.6, respectively (intraclass correlation scores: 0.99 for both). A significant number of websites provide consumers with easy, unsafe, and unregulated access to CCLs. Most online stores do not meet the requirements set out in the Opticians Act for CCL sales in the United Kingdom. A significant number of CCLs lack CE marking, while the average quality of information on websites selling CCLs is poor. Together, these pose a risk to consumers purchasing CCLs from unregulated websites, and therefore, further stringent regulations on the online sales of these products are needed.

Short video platforms as sources of health information about cervical cancer: A content and quality analysis.

The development of short popular science video platforms helps people obtain health information, but no research has evaluated the information characteristics and quality of short videos related to cervical cancer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality and reliability of short cervical cancer-related videos on TikTok and Kwai. The Chinese keyword "cervical cancer" was used to search for related videos on TikTok and Kwai, and a total of 163 videos were ultimately included. The overall quality of these videos was evaluated by the Global Quality Score (GQS) and the modified DISCERN tool. A total of 163 videos were included in this study, TikTok and Kwai contributed 82 and 81 videos, respectively. Overall, these videos received much attention; the median number of likes received was 1360 (403-6867), the median number of comments was 147 (40-601), and the median number of collections was 282 (71-1296). In terms of video content, the etiology of cervical cancer was the most frequently discussed topic. Short videos posted on TikTok received more attention than did those posted on Kwai, and the GQS and DISCERN score of videos posted on TikTok were significantly better than those of videos posted on Kwai. In addition, the videos posted by specialists were of the highest quality, with a GQS and DISCERN score of 3 (2-3) and 2 (2-3), respectively. Correlation analysis showed that GQS was significantly correlated with the modified DISCERN scores (p<0.001). In conclusion, the quality and reliability of cervical cancer-related health information provided by short videos were unsatisfactory, and the quality of the videos posted on TikTok was better than that of videos posted on Kwai. Compared with those posted by individual users, short videos posted by specialists provided higher-quality health information.

Health Information Quality of Online Newspaper Articles in Korea.

The Web is an important source of health information, but the quality of such online information is highly variable. This study evaluates the quality of health articles published on Naver News, Korea's most popular portal, using the Health Information Quality Assessment Tool (HIQUAL). We collected 712 health-related articles published on Naver News from May 1 to 7, 2023. After applying exclusion criteria, we selected 116 articles for analysis. Two clinicians independently assessed the quality of these articles using the HIQUAL, which scores articles based on five domains: "reliability," "usefulness," "understandability," "sufficiency," and "transparency." Overall article quality was generally considered recommendable (mean±standard deviation: 7.52±2.00). "Usefulness," one item of "reliability," and "understandability" were the three items with the highest levels of satisfaction. "Sufficiency" criteria for costs, risks, and benefits received low scores. Quality scores for articles focused on health risk factors and intervention showed a statistically significant difference. While the overall quality of health information in Korean online newspaper articles is acceptable, room for improvement remains in some areas, particularly with regard to the fair presentation of costs, risks, and benefits. The study highlights the need for ongoing quality improvement and evaluation initiatives for online health information.

Phototherapy for vitiligo: Quality and readability of online health information.

Vitiligo is a depigmenting disorder that affects up to 2% of the population. Due to the relatively high prevalence of this disease and its psychological impact on patients, decisions concerning treatment can be difficult. As patients increasingly seek health information online, the caliber of online health information (OHI) becomes crucial in patients' decisions regarding their care. We aimed to assess the quality and readability of OHI regarding phototherapy in the management of vitiligo. Similar to previously published studies assessing OHI, we used 5 medical search terms as a proxy for online searches made by patients. Results for each search term were assessed using an enhanced DISCERN analysis, Health On the Net code of conduct (HONcode) accreditation guidelines, and several readability indices. The DISCERN analysis is a validated questionnaire used to assess the quality of OHI, while HONcode accreditation is a marker of site reliability. Of the 500 websites evaluated, 174 were HONcode-accredited (35%). Mean DISCERN scores for all websites were 58.9% and 51.7% for website reliability and treatment sections, respectively. Additionally, 0/130 websites analyzed for readability scored at the NIH-recommended sixth-grade reading level. These analyses shed light on the shortcomings of OHI regarding phototherapy treatment for vitiligo, which could exacerbate disparities for patients who are already at higher risk of worse health outcomes.

Tinjauan Karakteristik Sumber Daya Manusia Di Unit Rekam Medis Dalam Meningkatkan Efisiensi Dan Efektivitas Pelayanan Di UPT Puskesmas Kedai Durian Tahun 2022

To manage a medical records unit and produce quality health information, adequate resource support is needed, including human resources, facilities and infrastructure. The aim of this research is to determine the management of human resources in the medical records unit in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of services at the UPT Puskesmas Kedai Durian. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research type with a cross sectional approach where data collection was carried out by interviews in September 2022 with employees of the medical records unit at the Toko Durian Health Center, Medan City with the number of officers in the medical records unit being 4 people, including 1 D3 medical records person, 1 person D3 nursing, 1 person D4 midwifery, and 1 person S1 nursing. Based on research results, in managing human resources in the medical records unit to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services at the UPT Puskesmas Kedai Durian, the majority of employees in the medical records unit do not have a medical records background and have never attended previous training. In conclusion, the UPT of the Kedai Durian Health Center in Medan City is still not efficient and effective in providing services in the Medical Records Unit.

ChatGPT as a Source of Patient Information for Lumbar Spinal Fusion and Laminectomy: A Comparative Analysis Against Google Web Search.

Retrospective Observational Study. The objective of this study was to assess the utility of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot, in providing patient information for lumbar spinal fusion and lumbar laminectomy in comparison with the Google search engine. ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot with seemingly unlimited functionality, may present an alternative to a Google web search for patients seeking information about medical questions. With widespread misinformation and suboptimal quality of online health information, it is imperative to assess ChatGPT as a resource for this purpose. The first 10 frequently asked questions (FAQs) related to the search terms "lumbar spinal fusion" and "lumbar laminectomy" were extracted from Google and ChatGPT. Responses to shared questions were compared regarding length and readability, using the Flesch Reading Ease score and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level. Numerical FAQs from Google were replicated in ChatGPT. Two of 10 (20%) questions for both lumbar spinal fusion and lumbar laminectomy were asked similarly between ChatGPT and Google. Compared with Google, ChatGPT's responses were lengthier (340.0 vs. 159.3 words) and of lower readability (Flesch Reading Ease score: 34.0 vs. 58.2; Flesch-Kincaid grade level: 11.6 vs. 8.8). Subjectively, we evaluated these responses to be accurate and adequately nonspecific. Each response concluded with a recommendation to discuss further with a health care provider. Over half of the numerical questions from Google produced a varying or nonnumerical response in ChatGPT. FAQs and responses regarding lumbar spinal fusion and lumbar laminectomy were highly variable between Google and ChatGPT. While ChatGPT may be able to produce relatively accurate responses in select questions, its role remains as a supplement or starting point to a consultation with a physician, not as a replacement, and should be taken with caution until its functionality can be validated.

Breath of Change: Evaluating Asthma Information on TikTok and Introducing the Video Health Information Credibility Score.

Introduction Asthma's global prevalence underscores the need for accessible health information dissemination, especially in the digital age. TikTok, known for its wide reach and diverse content, presents both opportunities and challenges in health information dissemination. This study aims to characterize the quality and reach of asthma-related content on TikTok and introduces the Video Health Information Credibility Score (VHICS) as a novel tool for quality assessment. Materials and methods We used a systematic methodology to analyze the top 100 TikTok videos by the number of likes tagged with #asthma. Data were collected in June 2023 and January 2024 to allow for temporal trend analysis. Videos were evaluated based on engagement metrics (views, likes, comments, shares, and favorites) and quality using the DISCERN instrument. Results Our analysis showed that physician-generated content accounted for a significant proportion of asthma-related videos, with varying levels of engagement. The DISCERNscores, with a range of 1 (lowest) to 5 highest),provided insights into content quality, revealing trends in user engagement and information reliability over time. Temporal analysis indicated changes in content creation and audience interaction. Discussion The study highlights the evolving landscape of digital health communication on TikTok. The introduction of VHICS added depth to the quality assessment of future directions, indicating the necessity for accurate and reliable health information on social media. The findings suggest an imperative for healthcare professionals to address misinformation and leverage digital platforms for patient education effectively. Conclusions TikTok is a significant medium for health information dissemination, with substantial potential for impact in patient education. The introduction of VHICS can enrich the analysis of video content, offering a robust tool for assessing the quality of health information on social media. This study underscores the importance of credible, clear, and audience-relevant health communication in the digital era.

Assessment of the Quality, Accountability, and Readability of Online Patient Education Materials for Optic Neuritis

ABSTRACT Most cases of optic neuritis (ON) occur in women and in patients between the ages of 15 and 45 years, which represents a key demographic of individuals who seek health information using the internet. As clinical providers strive to ensure patients have accessible information to understand their condition, assessing the standard of online resources is essential. To assess the quality, content, accountability, and readability of online information for optic neuritis. This cross-sectional study analyzed 11 freely available medical sites with information on optic neuritis and used PubMed as a gold standard for comparison. Twelve questions were composed to include the information most relevant to patients, and each website was independently examined by four neuro-ophthalmologists. Readability was analyzed using an online readability tool. Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmarks, four criteria designed to assess the quality of health information further were used to evaluate the accountability of each website. Freely available online information. On average, websites scored 27.98 (SD ± 9.93, 95% CI 24.96–31.00) of 48 potential points (58.3%) for the twelve questions. There were significant differences in the comprehensiveness and accuracy of content across websites (p < .001). The mean reading grade level of websites was 11.90 (SD ± 2.52, 95% CI 8.83–15.25). Zero websites achieved all four JAMA benchmarks. Interobserver reliability was robust between three of four neuro-ophthalmologist (NO) reviewers (ρ = 0.77 between NO3 and NO2, ρ = 0.91 between NO3 and NO1, ρ = 0.74 between NO2 and NO1; all p < .05). The quality of freely available online information detailing optic neuritis varies by source, with significant room for improvement. The material presented is difficult to interpret and exceeds the recommended reading level for health information. Most websites reviewed did not provide comprehensive information regarding non-therapeutic aspects of the disease. Ophthalmology organizations should be encouraged to create content that is more accessible to the general public.

(108) Using the YouTube’s Polling Platform to Characterize Viewers' Sexual Practices

Abstract Introduction Research has been limited on the general population's understanding and insight into achievement of orgasm, prevalence and types of non-traditional sex practices and fetishes, masturbation frequency and motivation, erotica use, and knowledge about genital anatomy. Additionally there are research gaps regarding the way people interact with health information on social media. Objective This research aims to close these gaps and provide physicians with information to better address patients’ sexual health and wellness needs. Methods An online social media community was recruited to participate in a survey about sexual practices. The survey was distributed through community posts over two weeks to allow adequate time for respondents to answer. The survey consisted of questions on these topics: demographics, youtube content interactions, masturbation practices, masturbation and partnered sex, sexual practices, safe sexual practices, male external genital anatomy, and female external genital anatomy. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze results. Results Between 670 to 18,000 respondents answered the poll questions. Demographic data indicated that there were a wide range of respondents; 61% of respondents were from North America, 20% from Asia and Australia, 13% from Europe, 3.6% from Africa, and 2.3% from Asia. The age range of participants were split with 18 to 29 year olds making up 24 %, 30 to 44 year olds making up 31 %, 40 to 59 year olds making up 26 %, and those over 60 making up 19 %. Respondents were overwhelmingly male and straight, at 95 % and 91 % respectively. The vast majority of respondents were able to successfully identify basic female and male genital anatomy. Regarding sexual practices, 76 % of respondents masturbated daily or weekly, 90 % did not feel significant shame regarding masturbation, and 69 % used erotic films for masturbation. Most respondents were able to orgasm from masturbation and the primary motivations for masturbation were sexual pleasure, stress relief and lack of a sexual partner. Over 70 % of respondents were able to orgasm from penetrative intercourse; when unable to masturbate the most common barriers were psychologic at 51 %. There was a wide range of times that it took to achieve orgasm during sex, with the most common being 5-10 minutes for 36 % of respondents. Survey takers were split on whether they used YouTube as their primary source of health information, with 46 % using youtube as their primary source. Conclusions Our survey found that YouTube was a primary source of health knowledge for a significant percentage of people, indicating the importance of having high quality health information available on social media. Most participants were able to correctly identify genital anatomy. Data on masturbation practices showed that most participants masturbate relatively frequently, are able to orgasm and use masturbation for sexual pleasure, stress relief and due to lack of a sexual partner. Most respondents were also able to orgasm during penetrative intercourse, and the biggest barrier for those unable to orgasm was psychosocial. YouTubeTM as a source of information on autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease: A quality analysis.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common inherited kidney disease in adults. As a social media platform, YouTube has tremendous potential to both support and hinder public health efforts. The aim of this study was to assess the reliability and quality of the most viewed English-language YouTube videos on ADPKD. A YouTube search was conducted on 3 August 2023, using the keyword ADPKD disease and the top 200 videos were analyzed for relevance. Videos in the "Short" category that were duplicates, were not in English, were not audio or visual, and contained advertisements were excluded. Two reviewers divided the 159 included videos into groups based on their source and content. In 106 (66.7%) of the 159 videos, general information about the disease was given, 58 (36.5%) discussed medical treatment, 11 (6.9%) discussed surgical treatment, 30 (18.9%) included patient images and radiological images, and eight (5%) discussed the genetic and pathological features of the disease. Additionally, 16 (10.1%) videos fell into the "other" category. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, Quality Criteria for Consumer Health Information and Global Quality Scale scoring systems, videos uploaded by health associations and foundations received the highest scores (3 (1-4), 54 (28-70), 4 (1-5), respectively). Academic institutions and other official health organizations such as Health Associations/Foundations need to use YouTube more effectively to disseminate accurate, reliable and useful health-related information to society.

A Systematic Evaluation of the Quality of Health Information on Cleft Lip and Palate in the Arabic Language.

The internet serves as a vital health information resource, yet the quality of data on specific health conditions, especially in Arabic, is often overlooked. This research assesses the quality of Arabic online information about cleft lip and palate (CLP) and proposes avenues for enhancement. From July to August 2022, a systematic evaluation of Arabic articles on CLP was performed using the DISCERN tool for quality assessment. Searches on Google and Bing resulted in 119 articles that met the study's criteria. The quality of available Arabic information on CLP displayed substantial gaps. Commercial sources dominated (49.6%), followed by private (32.8%) and nonprofit entities (17.6%). The average DISCERN score was 2.26 of 5 (SD = 1.06), indicating the need for enhanced content, particularly concerning treatment risks. The study underscores the subpar quality of Arabic CLP information online, which might mislead patients and impede access to accurate advice. Nonprofit organizations should bolster their online footprint, offering refined health content. A deep dive into DISCERN scores reveals pinpointed improvement areas. Clinicians should direct patients and their families to reliable information sources. Addressing these gaps promises improved CLP knowledge in Arabic, fostering superior patient education and outcomes for those with this condition.
