Exploration and Characterization of High-Efficiency Phosphate-Solubilizing Bacteria Isolates from Chickpea Rhizospheric Soil

The study was conducted during April, 2021 to June, 2022 to study the isolation and identification of high effective strains of phosphate solubilizing bacteria and evaluation the ability to solubilize tricalcium phosphate in vitro. Microorganisms that live in soil are actively involved in the carbon, nitrogen, sulphur, and phosphorus cycles in nature, enabling them to maintain ecological balance. Phosphate-solubilizing microbes are used as agricultural biofertilizers and play an essential role in plant nutrition by enhancing phosphate uptake. Phosphate is one of the most important macronutrients necessary for the growth and development of plants. Numerous microorganisms present in the rhizosphere solubilize insoluble phosphorus, making it readily available to plants. Fourteen phosphate-solubilizing bacterial colonies were identified on Pikovskaya’s agar medium, containing insoluble tricalcium phosphate (TCP) from rhizospheric soil. Among them, eight colonies showing clear halo zones around the microbial growth were considered as phosphate-solubilizing. All isolates showing the highest phosphate solubilization index (PSI), ranging from 2.8 to 4.03, were selected for further qualitative and quantitative studies. Out of these eight potent isolates, two strains showed the maximum PSI: V7 (4.03) and V8 (3.85) in agar plates, along with a high production of soluble phosphate, measuring 448.03 and 441.43 mg l-1, and a greater reduction in pH in the broth culture. The morphological, biochemical, and molecular identification of V7 and V8 strains revealed them to belong the Acinetobacter and Paenibacillus genera, respectively, and were phylogenetically close to Acinetobacter baumannii and Paenibacillus lautus species.

Agroecological Nutrient Management Strategy for Attaining Sustainable Rice Self-Sufficiency in Indonesia

Rice self-sufficiency is central to Indonesia’s agricultural development, but the country is increasingly challenged by population growth, climate change, and arable land scarcity. Agroecological nutrient management offers solutions though optimized fertilization, enhanced organic matter and biofertilizer utilizations, and improved farming systems and water management. Besides providing enough nutrients for crops, the agroecological approach also enhances resilience to climate change, reduces the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions, and improves the biological functions of rice soil. Organic and bio fertilizers can reduce the need for chemical fertilizers. For example, blue-green algae may contribute 30–40 kg N ha−1, while the application of phosphate solubilizing microbes can reduce the use of chemical phosphorous fertilizers by up to 50 percent. The country currently experiences substantial yield gaps of about 37 percent in irrigated and 48 percent in rain-fed rice. Achieving self-sufficiency requires that Indonesia accelerates annual yield growth through agroecological nutrient management from a historical 40 kg ha−1 year−1 to 74 kg ha−1 year−1. The aim is to raise the average yield from the current 5.2 t ha−1 year−1 to 7.3 t ha−1 year−1 by 2050. Simultaneously, controlling paddy field conversion to a maximum of 30,000 hectares per year is crucial. This strategic approach anticipates Indonesia’s milled rice production to reach around 40 million metric tonnes (Mt) by 2050, with an expected surplus of about 4 Mt.

Prospective bioencapsulation to improve the quality of phosphate-solubilizing biofertilizers for crop production: A review

Farmers commonly use chemical phosphorus fertilizer to increase crop yields, but long-term use may harm the environment. Biofertilizers specifically phosphate solubilizing microbes (PSMs), are used for restoring soil fertility in crop production. PSMs contribute to plant phosphorus supply by increasing phosphorus availability in the soil through organic acid and phosphatase enzyme secretion. However, the conventional biofertilizer formulation is often limited by a short shelf-life followed by a decreased microbial effectiveness. In recent years, bioencapsulation formulation have received more attention because they offer products that have a longer shelf-life, protect microbes in harsh environments, and maintain the effectiveness of biofertilizers. This literature review focuses on the latest bioencapsulation technology, the impact of bioencapsulation on phosphate-solubilizing biofertilizers, and the potential for developing bioencapsulation-based biofertilizers for sustainable agriculture. Precise formulation is crucial in bioencapsulation, influencing the quality and performance of biofertilizer inoculants. Bioencapsulated biofertilizers offer advantages such as improved nutrient management, enhanced plant stress tolerance, disease suppression, and innovative agricultural waste management. Despite longer shelf life and adaptability to various crops, further research is needed to address scalability, cost-effectiveness, and standardized encapsulation techniques. In conclusion, bioencapsulation innovations have the potential to promote sustainable and productive crop production.

Simulation Study on the Effect of Iron Nanoparticles on Rhizospheric and Rhizoplane Microbes of Paddy (Oryza sativa) Plant

ABSTRACT Rhizospheric microbes play a crucial role in plant growth promotion. Due to advancements in technology, many nano fertilizers are now applied in the agricultural field. However, its effect on the microbial community is less explored. The present study examines the impact of iron (Fe) nanoparticles (INPs) on paddy rhizospheric (RS) and rhizoplanar (RP) microbes. The effect of different concentrations of INPs iron nanoparticles on the growth of rhizospheric and rhizoplanar microbes was observed by the plate count method. The results showed that bacterial and fungal counts were higher in control than all treatments on 15, 30, and 45 days after sowing seeding (DAS). Nitrogen-fixing bacteria were higher in control on 15 and 30 DAS; however, on 45 DAS, higher nitrogen-fixing bacteria were reported in T4. Phosphate solubilizing microbes were higher in all the treatments compared to the control. Siderophore-producing microbes were higher in control on 15 DAS compared to other treatments. However, after 30 and 45 DAS siderophore-producing microbes were higher in T4 than in control and other treatments. Thus, the results suggest that treatment − 4 (T4) (Seed + Soil +2 g/kg soil) was the best treatment and can be used for plant growth promotion of rice.

Use of coal ash- and lignite-enriched compost to improve soil biological properties and reduce pineapple disease in Ultisols of Central Lampung

Ultisols used for pineapple cultivation are classified as suboptimal lands because of their low soil fertility. Application of compost enriched with other soil ameliorants, such as coal ash in the form of fly ash, bottom ash (FABA), and lignite, can be a good alternative to improve soil properties, including increasing the soil microbial and fauna populations, which play an important role in improving soil fertility and reducing the incidence of pineapple disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of FABA- and lignite-enriched compost on microbial and earthworm populations and the incidence of pineapple disease. FABA- and lignite-enriched compost at a dose of 50 tons/ha was applied using a spread-and-row technique in the pineapple plantation area in Central Lampung. The parameters observed included the microbial population (Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Actinomycetes, Trichoderma), functional microbial populations (nitrogen-fixing bacteria, phosphate-solubilizing microbes, siderophore producers), earthworm population, and incidence of pineapple diseases (marbling, brown spot, cork spot, and pink diseases). Generally, all treatments with FABA- and lignite-enriched compost showed better results than the control for all observed parameters. The treatment of FABA-enriched compost applied with a row technique was the best compared to other treatments because it tended to increase the population of Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Actinomycetes, and nitrogen-fixing bacteria, as well as earthworm abundance and biomass. In addition, in this treatment, there was no incidence of pineapple fruit disease. The abundance of earthworms and soil microbes, especially Pseudomonas was one of the factors which can create a healthier soil ecosystem to suppress the incidence of pineapple diseases.

Isolation and identification of phosphate solubilizing microbes in the rhizosphere of maize by sound exposure

Phosphorus (P) is a macronutrient requirement by plants. P elements applied to the soil are quickly deposited into an insoluble form. Insoluble P in the soil can be converted into available P by phosphate solubilizing microbes. One of the factors that affect the activity and growth of phosphate solubilizing microbes is sound. This study aims to isolate and identify phosphate solubilizing soil microbes in the rhizosphere of maize by sound exposure. The research was conducted by sound treatment and without sound of Al-Quran recitation in the rhizosphere of maize, then isolated and identified the phosphate solubilizing microbes. The research results obtained 11 isolates consisting of three isolates of fungi and eight isolates of bacteria. Fungi isolates found on sound-exposure soil. Subsequently, the highest microbes of phosphate dissolution index and growth curve after the sound exposure will be identified. The results of identification using the PCR-16S rRNA sequencing method showed the phosphate solubilizing bacteria isolate TSB1 was Burkholderia contaminants, TSB4 was B. latens, SMB2 was B. cepacia, and SMB4 was Burkholderia sp. Phosphate solubilizing fungi SMJ3 isolate was Talaromyces muroii and SMJ6 was Talaromyces sp. The growth curve of the phosphate solubilizing bacteria showed a different pattern, likewise phosphate solubilizing fungi.

The role of rhizosphere microbes as phosphate solubilizing bio fertilizers in shallot: a review

Crops need nutrients to grow, develop, and produce yields, both in macro and micronutrients form. One of the essential macronutrients is phosphorus (P). Phosphorus is required by plants to produce plant biomass. Andisols are often used as agricultural lands in the highlands of the tropics. This soil type has high P retention and low available P. Andisol contains clay minerals with up to 97.8% P-retention. Therefore, this condition led to low P availability, but high total P in the soils. There was a tendency to increase the dose of inorganic fertilizers, especially P fertilizer in this area. A survey reported that shallot Andisol farmers applied P fertilizer about five times of shallot recommendation rate, however, the production has not increased, yet. The high rate of chemical fertilizers causes land degradation and environmental pollution. One of the solutions to increase phosphorus availability is by improving P solubility which increases P uptake by plants. Increasing P solubility is environmentally friendly and can be done by utilizing phosphate-solubilizing microbes which are often found in the plant rhizosphere. The use of phosphate-solubilizing microbes for plants today can be found in bio-fertilizers. This method could maintain soil health and give a good impact to the plant growth and production. This review would determine the use of phosphate-solubilizing microbes to manage P deficiency in Andisol soils. Some study cases about the effect of phosphate-solubilizing microbes on plant performances would also be addressed. Currently, it is hoped that farmers will begin to implement environmentally friendly agriculture by giving phosphate-solubilizing bio fertilizers to escalate available P and production.

Studies on Phosphorus and Zinc Economy with Phosphate and Zinc Solubilizing Microbes in Lentil

Background: Lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) is an important winter pulse crop grown in Indian subcontinent. Lentil like other pulse crops is given secondary importance as far as its growing environment is concerned. It is grown on marginal lands with low fertility and receives sub-optimal fertilizer application. Rhizobium and phosphate solubilizing bacteria are known to benefit the crop by increasing the availability of soil nitrogen and phosphorus and effect of zinc solubilizing microbes in Lentil has not been studied earlier. Methods: An experiment was conducted during Rabi 2019-20 and 2020-21 to study the effect of phosphate and zinc solubilizing microbes on growth, yield and economy of lentil at research farm area of Pulses section Dept. of Genetics and Plant Breeding, CCS HAU, Hisar. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with eleven treatments replicated thrice. Results: Growth as well as yield parameters were significantly affected by different treatments and were significantly higher with application of 50% recommended phosphorus dose application + 12.5 kg ZnSO4 + Biophos + Biozinc. The soil pH did not differed significantly under different treatment. The Soil EC under different treatment differed significantly with control. The soil organic carbon was found maximum in T10 and it was closely followed by T11. Similarly, maximum net return and BC ratio was obtained in T10 treatment followed by T9.

Role of Aspergillus niger in Solubilizing P in Togo Rock Phosphate during Composting with Different Organic Wastes

The immobilization and mineralization processes carried out by soil microorganisms have a significant role in controlling the availability of phosphorus in soil. A class of helpful microorganisms known as phosphate solubilizing microbes are able to hydrolyze insoluble organic and insoluble inorganic phosphorus compounds into soluble P (phosphorus) form that is readily taken by plants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of different organic waste and Aspergillus niger in solubilizing P in Togo rock phosphate during composting.  Composts were prepared using rice straw and citrus waste that had been inoculated with Aspergillus niger and supplemented with rock phosphate. The results showed that co-inoculation system with PSF (i.e. Aspergillus niger) provided optimum condition for P solubilization. 

Dynamics of root–microbe interactions governing crop phosphorus acquisition after straw amendment

Phosphorus (P) mobilization by microorganisms influences root morphological and exudation traits related to crop nutrient acquisition. However, the dynamics of root P acquisition strategies in response to P immobilization followed by release that accompany microbial growth and decay remain unclear. We evaluated root–microbe interactions governing P uptake by Brassica chinensis and Solanum lycopersicum grown for 56 days in low-P (10 mg P kg−1) and high-P (100 mg P kg−1) soil with or without straw addition. Straw addition increased the growth of bacteria and fungi (including microorganisms harbouring the phoD, phoC and pqqC genes) and enhanced the microbial P pool. The high microbial abundance 29 days after straw addition was associated with short roots and weak carboxylate exudation in B. chinensis and S. lycopersicum regardless of P fertilization. Phosphate-solubilizing microbes harbouring the phoD, phoC and pqqC genes together with microbial P release increased plant-available soil P, influencing variation in root P-acquisition strategies between the species. The high level of CaCl2-extractable P due to P release upon microbial decay and phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms was associated with short roots and weak carboxylate exudation in B. chinensis, but underpinned crop nutrient acquisition in low-P soil amended with straw after day 40. S. lycopersicum increased root elongation in response to mobilization of microbial P after day 44. The long roots coupled with the increased P availability due to microbial P release elicited large P acquisition by S. lycopersicum in straw-amended, low-P soil. By contrast, microbial abundance and microbially mediated P availability had little influence on root P-acquisition strategies in B. chinensis and S. lycopersicum in high-P, straw-amended soil. This study highlighted the importance of temporally varying root–microbe interactions in influencing crop P acquisition in low-P, straw-amended soil.

Phosphate availability, P-uptake, phosphatase, and yield of maize (Zea mays L.) affected by kaolin based P-solubilizer and P fertilizer in Inceptisols

Inceptisols have problem in phosphate availability. Soil P content is very low available to plants because it is bound by soil colloids. One of the efforts to increase the P nutrient in the soil in a sustainable way by using P-Solubilizers that can dissolve phosphate in the soil so that it is available for plants. The purpose of experiment was to determine the effect of the combination dose of kaolin based P-Solubilizer and P fertilizer for improving P availability, P uptake, phosphatase, and maize yield on Inceptisols. The kaolin-based P-Solubilizer was used a consortium of phosphate solubilizing microbes (PSM) consisting of Bacillus subtilis , Burkholderia cepacea, Pseudomonas mallei , and Trichoderma asperellum . This experiment was conducted in the experimental field of the Laboratory of Soil Chemistry and Plant Nutrition, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor, from July to December 2021. The experiment used a randomized block design (RDB) method with nine treatments and three replications, with details of 0 P-Solubilizer + 0 P-fertilizer; 100% P-fertilizer; 100% P-solubilizer; and combination 50%, 75 %, 100%, and 150% P-solubilizer with 50%, 75%, and 100% P-fertilizer. P-solubilizer 100% recommended dose 50 kg ha -1 and P-fertilizer recommended dose 100 kg ha -1 . The results showed that the dose of 100% P-Solubilizer (50 kg ha -1 ) + 75% P (75 kg ha -1 ) showed the best results in increased P-availability (346,93%), P-uptake (312,5%), Phosphate activity (33,5%), and maize yields (48,09%) compared to without application of P-solubilizer and P-fertilizer. This consortium isolate could be developed as a P-Solubilizer with the ability to increase the efficiency of P up to 25%.

Azotobacter and Pseudomonas Population in Rhizosphere and Yield of Choy Sum following Chemical Fertilizer and Biofertilizer application

Inoculation of beneficial microbes is a way to improve the population of rhizobacteria that has a role in nutrient cycle and hence reduce the level of chemical fertilizer. A pot  experiment was performed to evaluate the effect of and consortia biofertilizer combined with various dose of NPK compound fertilizer on the population of nitrogen-fixing Azotobacter sp. and phosphate solubilizing Pseudomonas sp. in rhizosphere and yield of choy sum (Brassica juncea L.). The experimental was setup in completely randomized block design consisted of ten combinations of various biofertilizer and inorganic fertilizer dose; and three replications. The results showed that Biofertilizer inoculation with or without chemical fertilizer did not improve the population of Azotobacter and Pseudomonas in the rhizosphere but increase the shoot weight of choy sum. Higher shoot weight was showed by crops with ¾ dose of NPK combined with recommended or reduced dose of fertilizer; and recommended dose of NPK and biofertilizer. This experiment verified that the used of consortia biofertilizer composed of Nitrogen-fixing bacteria and phosphate-solubilizing microbes reduced 50-75% dose of NPK.

Discrepancies in rhizobacterial assembly caused by glyphosate application and herbicide-tolerant soybean Co-expressing GAT and EPSPS

There are concerns that the innovation of genetically modified herbicide-tolerant (GMHT) plants, as well as the application of herbicide to such GMHT plants, could have an impact on ecological interactions and unintentionally harm non-targeted organisms. Consequently, we intend to use full-length 16 S rDNA amplicon sequencing to examine changes in the bacterial community in the rhizosphere of GMHT soybean (Z106) harboring 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase and Glyphosate N-acetyltransferase genes and GMHT soybean treated with glyphosate (Z106G). Glyphosate application significantly impacted bacterial alpha diversity (species richness, and Shannon diversity). Permutational multivariate analysis of variance of beta diversity demonstrated that soil compartments and growth stages had a substantial impact on soybean rhizobacterial communities (soil compartments, growth stages, P = 0.001). Community composition revealed that Z106G soils were abundant in Taibaiella and Arthrobacter pascens at maturity, while Chryseobacterium joostei and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia predominated in Z106 soils during flowering. Nitrogen-fixing and phosphate-solubilizing microbes were found in higher proportions in the rhizosphere than in bulk soil, with Sinorhizobium being more abundant in Z106 and Bacillus and Stenotrophomonas being more prevalent in Z106G rhizosphere soils. Collectively, our findings suggest glyphosate application and glyphosate-tolerant soybean as potential regulators of soybean rhizobacterial composition.

Nitrogen removal in improved subsurface wastewater infiltration system: Mechanism, microbial indicators and the limitation of phosphorus

To enhance the nitrogen removal capacity, scrap iron filings and Si–Al porous clay mineral material (PCMW) was used to improve a subsurface wastewater infiltration system (SWIS). The results showed TN and NH4+-N removal efficiencies of improved SWIS were 20.72% and 5.49% higher than those of the control SWIS, respectively. Based on the response of the removal performance, microbial community and function analysis of 16s rRNA amplicon sequencing results, the amending soil matrix substantially enriched the nitrogen removal bacteria (Rhizobiales_Incertae_Sedis and Gemmatimonadaceae), and significantly improved the activities of key enzymes (Hao, NasAB, NarGHI, NirK, NorBC, NirA and NirBD), particularly at co-occurrence zone of nitrification and denitrification (70–130 cm depth). The amending soil matrix not only extended the growth space of microbes, but also provided additional electrons and carbon sources for denitrifying bacteria by regulating the structure and function of the microbial community. In addition, amending soil matrix could enhance phosphate metabolism genes and phosphate solubilizing microbes in the denitrification zone by increasing the phosphorus source, thus strengthening nitrogen metabolism. Nitrospiraceae, Rhizobiales_Incertae_Sedis and Gemmatimonadaceae related to nitrogen removal and Bacillaceae with phosphate-solubilizing ability could be used as microbial indicators of nitrogen removal in SWISs. The reciprocal action of environmental on microbial characteristics exhibited microbial functional were related to DO, Fe2+, TOC, TP, TN, NH4+-N and NO3−-N. Those could be used as physicochemical and biological indicators for application and monitoring of SWIS. In conclusion, this study provided a low-cost and efficient enhancement approach for the application of SWIS in decentralized domestic sewage treatment, and furnished theoretical support for subsequent applications.

In-vitro Phosphate Solubilization by Native Phosphate Solubilizing Microbes in Soils of Northern Region of India

The investigations were conducted at Sardar Vallabhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India during March 2019 to January 2020 for isolation and characterization and identification of phosphate solubilizing microbes (PSM) in soils of northern region of India. Soil samples (0-30 cm) were collected from four locations i.e. KVK, Lohaghat, SVPUAT, Meerut, College of Agriculture field, SVPUAT, Meerut and KVK, Bulandshahar covering Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand states of India and kept in refrigerator for analysis. The isolation of two rhizobial bacteria isolates (S1 and S2) in conjunction with the two-phosphate solubilizing efficient fungal isolates (F1 and F2) was carried out by the serial dilution method. The study of their morphological and microscopic characters, together with Solubilization Efficiency (SE), and Solubilization Index (SI) were also assessed. Finally, the biochemical tests were run according to their nature that was gram-negative rod by using KB002 TM HI Assorted Biochemical Test Kit (for Gram-negative rods). Between the two bacterial isolates was S1 was showing more solubilization on Pikovskaya agar (PVK) compared to S4 on the 5th day of observation, while S4 gave better results on the 8th-day solubilization observation. The biochemical tests on bacterial isolates were showing disagreement between the two, proving them as completely different isolates. In the case of fungi, the F2 isolate was showing better SE and SI values compared to the F1 isolate.

Co-inoculation of Bradyrhizobium and Phosphate Solubilizing Microbes on Growth Promotion of Groundnut Under Rain-fed Conditions

Plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) can improve plant development and protect plants from diseases and abiotic stresses. Plant-bacterial interactions in the rhizosphere are important factors in soil fertility and plant health. Symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria include the cyanobacteria of the genera Rhizobium, Bradyrhizobium, Azorhizobium, Allorhizobium, Sinorhizobium and Mesorhizobium. Therefore, to investigate the effect of co-inoculation of Bradyrhizobium and phosphate solubilizing microbes (PSM) on groundnut crop under field conditions using normal soil, divided into eight different study groups i.e., control (T1), Bradyrhizobium isolate -1 (T2), Bradyrhizobium isolate -2 (T3), Bradyrhizobium isolate -3(T4), Phosphate solubilizing microbe (PSM) (T5), T2 + PSM (T6), T3 + PSM (T7), T4 + PSM (T8). The results showed maximum groundnut pod yield (2428 kg ha-1) was obtained in treatment where inoculation with bacterial isolate-2 applied as compared to control. In case of plant height and shoot dry biomass, maximum response was observed in T7 (59.4 cm, 4733 kg ha-1) as compared to control i.e., 40.5 cm, 3156.7 kg ha-1 respectively. It was concluded that this technique might be useful and applicable to cut down the high input cost of phosphate fertilizers for the production of other crops also

Phosphate solubilizing microbes: an incredible role for plant supplements

Plants procure phosphorus from soil as the phosphate anion. It is the most un-portable component in plant and soil in comparison to other macronutrients. Microbial inoculants or biofertilizers can thus be used as an alternative source because they are both economical and environmentally favourable.

Pemanfaatan Keong Mas Untuk Pupuk Organik Cair di Kelompok Tani Podo Tentrem Kecamatan Wuluhan Jember

The golden snail is one of the pests that damage rice plants, this pest has the ability to reproduce quickly, causing the golden snail to become one of the main pests in lowland rice. But the golden snail can be used as a basic material for liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) because it contains protein, Azotobacter, Azospirillum, phosphate solubilizing microbes, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus, enzymes and the hormone auxin. The effectiveness of the golden snail LOF has been tested on several agricultural crops, one of which is rice. In the Podo Tentrem Farmers Group, these pests are simply thrown away and have not been utilized properly. Whereas the potential of this golden snail can be very high if it is processed into organic fertilizer. Therefore, with this community service activity, it is hoped that it can improve competence, skills and increase the production output of the Podo Tentrem farmer group. This can be measured by the enthusiasm of the participants who were attended by 100% of the invitees, besides that the participants also knew the stages of work and succeeded in making Keong Mas LOF well. In addition, other assessment indicators are using quantitative data on pre-test and post-test scores. Before the counseling was carried out, the pretest value was 50 and after the knowledge training, it increased with an average post-test score of 76. These results can indicate that in theory and practice, on average, participants understand and can make golden snail LOF.

Effect of adding bio-phosphate fertilizer on balanced fertilization on maize productivity in intensive land

Efforts to increase crop production require innovative technology, including balanced fertilization. Intensive agricultural lands with acidity limiting factors often have high levels of P nutrients but are not available to plants. The innovation of natural phosphate fertilizer enriched with phosphate-solubilizing microbes has the opportunity to help solve the problem of phosphate nutrient deficiency and increase plant productivity. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of the application of bio-phosphate fertilizer on balanced fertilization on the productivity of maize in Central Java. The study was carried out in intensive paddy fields in Tulung District, Klaten Regency, using a randomized block design with 10 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments consisted of: control without fertilizer, recommended control, recommended fertilizer + bio-phosphate (10,20,30,40 kg ha-1) and existing fertilizer + bio-phosphate (10,20,30,40 kg ha-1). The observed data consisted of growth, yield, and main farming components. The data were analyzed statistically and descriptively using the calculation of the relative value of agronomic effectiveness, and simple profit analysis. The results showed that the use of bio-phosphate fertilizers combined with recommended and existing fertilization patterns had not been proven to have a significant impact on plant growth and yields, but descriptively showed an increase in crop yields, agronomic effectiveness and gains from control. The addition of 10 kg ha-1 bio-phosphate fertilizer to the recommended fertilizer (Petroganik 500 kg ha-1 + Phonska NPK 300 kg ha-1 + Urea 300 kg ha-1), resulted in the best effectiveness and efficiency compared to others.

Metabolic characterization of phosphate solubilizing microorganisms and their role in improving soil phosphate solubility, yield of upland rice (Oryza sativa L.), and phosphorus fertilizers efficiency

Phosphate solubilizing microbes (PSM) can improve soil P availability by P dissolution. These microbes can make substances that regulate plant growth, which promotes plant growth. The present study aimed to characterize PSM and determine how PSM application affected P solubilization, soil phosphatase activity, and upland rice yield. The greenhouse experiment used a factorial randomized block design (RBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was PSM isolates, which came in four different forms: without microbes, with microbes (Burkholderia sp.), with fungus (Penicillium sp.), and with a combination of microbes (Burkholderia sp. and Penicillium sp.). The PSM isolates were characterized to analyze the production of organic acids, phosphatase enzymes, and phytohormones. The second factor was the superphosphate fertilizer dose, which has four levels: 0, 50, 75, and 100 kg P ha−1. According to the PSM characterization, it produced organic acids such as lactate acid, oxalate acid, citric acid, and acetate acid, as well as phytohormones (IAA) and the enzyme phosphatase. The pot experiment results show that the PSM inoculation raised the available P and soil phosphatase, P content of the plant, decreased soil organic P, and increased upland rice production. For improving available P, phosphatase activity, P content of the plant, and upland rice yields, mixed inoculants of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria and fungi performed better. The availability of soil P, the activity of the enzyme phosphatase, and the upland rice yields were all improved by applying P fertilizer at 75 kg P ha−1. This study showed that PSM as a biofertilizer reduced the dosage of inorganic fertilizers by up to 25%.
