  • Oluwaseyi Joseph Afolabi + 2 more

Abstract This research analyzed the transportation factors in the distribution of agricultural produce in ljebu north local government area of Ogun State. A total of 100 questionnaires were randomly and purposively distributed to transporters in Ijebu North local government Area, while 95 were collected and analyzed. The field survey revealed that 94 of the respondents representing 98.9% are male, 1 of the respondents representing 1.1% is female. Estimated income of transport operators from field survey revealed that 16 of the respondent representing 16.8% earned below N5, 000, 11 of the respondent representing 11.6% earned between N5, 001 and N10,000, 35 of the respondent representing 36.8% earned between N10,001 and N20,000. 25(26.3%) earn between N20,001 and N30,000, 8(8.4%) earn above N30,000.Observation from the field survey also shown that 5(5.3%) transporter revealed that they operate with buses, 18(18.9%) transporters revealed that they operate with station wagon, 39(41.1%) transporters revealed that they operate with pick-up van, 20(21.1%) transporters revealed that they operate with saloon car while 13.7% transporters revealed that they operate with other means. Finding shows that combination of food crops, cash crops, tubers, poultry, fruits, vegetables and poultry product dominate Ijebu North Local Government Area in which farmers combined cultivation of those crops. Roads in the study area are in a deplorable condition, the type of vehicle used by farmers and traders depend on the volume of the agricultural produce.

How do Today's Modern Passenger Cars Brake?
  • May 1, 2018
  • LOGI - Scientific Journal on Transport and Logistics
  • Ján Ondruš + 3 more

Abstract The article deals with issues of vehicle braking from different points of view. We made repeated braking tests of modern vehicles during intensive braking on various asphalt surfaces with the goal to evaluate character of this random variable. We dedicated our attention also to the accuracy attainable using various measuring methods and equipment. Within measurement of braking deceleration we used low-end measuring device (mobile smartphone) and measuring devices most used in Slovakia (XL Meter™ Pro Gamma). The collected data were processed in the software XL Vision and evaluated by SW PC-Crash 10.9. Usable result from article is mainly measurement set of braking deceleration of current modern vehicles during intensive braking on various asphalt surfaces as well as evaluation of accuracy levels with respect to various used devices.

Evaluation of the Influence of a Rail Vehicle Running with Wheel-flat on the Railway Track
  • May 1, 2018
  • LOGI - Scientific Journal on Transport and Logistics
  • Ján Dižo + 3 more

Abstract The railway transport network is currently in a quite big expansion. Therefore, railway tracks are modernized and the attention is given also on the technical state of rail vehicles, which operate on them. However, it may happen that the wheel surface is damaged. One of the most common reasons of wheel damage is too much braking, which results to the wheel-flat formation. This article is focused on the evaluation of the influence of a rail vehicle running on the railway track, which a wheel is damaged by the wheel-flat. Investigation of these negative effects was performed by means of simulation computations. As evaluating parameters, values of the wheel force in the contact of the rail and wheel with a flat where observed.

Determining of Provable Loss in Municipal Bus Transport and Its Influence on Public Budgets in Sparsely Populated Areas of the Czech Republic
  • May 1, 2018
  • LOGI - Scientific Journal on Transport and Logistics
  • Martin Telecký + 2 more

Abstract This paper is aimed to compare two regulations concerned with the issue of determining the amount of a provable loss or, newly, a compensation, i.e. Government Decree No. 493/2004 Sb., regulating the provable loss in the public line transport and specifying the method of the exercise of the professional government supervision in the road transport over funding the traffic services, and Regulation No. 296/2010 Sb. on the procedures for establishing the financial model and setting the maximum amount of the compensation. Both regulations suggest the different methodology for determining the amount of compensation in a transport company for the accounting period. The goal is to analyse which methodology encourages the explanatory power of individual items of economically substantiated costs and revenues and whether it has a consistent influence on the final value of compensation. The question is raised of whether we can achieve the same or at least a similar amount of compensation if both methodologies of the provable loss or compensation calculation are applied in the municipal bus transport.

Uniform Market Conditions in Road Freight Transport
  • May 1, 2018

  • Patrícia Šimurková + 2 more

Abstract International road transport is a specific service within the frame of services provided in the European Union. It is because the conditions of being active on the market are influenced by the states where businessmen operate, but services can be provided throughout the whole year in other member states of the European Union. The aim of the contribution is to highlight the existing problems in international road freight transport sector. These problems persist despite the fact that market access was exempted from the national law of individual member states and regulated directly by EU regulations. The contribution identifies the factors that deform the equal operating conditions in single market.

Assessment of Shippers and Ship Owners Ship and Charter Type Choice in the Wet and Dry Bulk Ship Brokering Market: Knowledge Guide for African Indigenous Ship Brokers
  • May 1, 2018
  • LOGI - Scientific Journal on Transport and Logistics
  • Nwokedi Theophilus C + 3 more

Abstract The study assessed shippers and ship owners’ ship and charter party type choices in the wet and dry bulk ship broking and chartering market as guide for performance improvement for African and Nigerian ship brokers. It aims to determine if significant differences exists between shippers ship type choices among Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC), Handymax, Supramax and capsize vessels in the wet and dry bulk market as well shippers and ship owners charter party type choice between voyage charter and time charter for the various ship types. The study adopted a survey method in which the Baltic International Maritime Council (BIMCO) was surveyed and 5 year data on ship types and charter party type choices of shippers and ship owners was obtained. The statistical tools of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and independent sample t-test were used to compare the ship type choices and charter party type choices of shippers and ship owners. The result indicates that shippers’ in the wet and dry bulk cargo market show greater preference for Supramax vessel type. The aggregate number of vessels chartered over the period covered in the study is 41,684 vessels out of which 22,593 representing about 54.2% are Supramax. This was seconded by VLCC which recorded 8,829 or 21.2% charters. Capsize and Handymax vessel types had 6211 and 4069 charters respectively which represent 14.9% and 9.77% each. Shippers and ship owners also show greater preference for voyage charter party type than time charter party for all types of vessels. It was recommended that ship brokers should place greater priority on trading in Supramax ship types and voyage charter party type as the demand trend for this ship type is likely to remain higher over time; followed by VLCC; while more shippers and ship owners are likely continue to show preference for voyage charter than time charter.

Abstract Green marketing as a part of environmental management has become a new marketing philosophy of many companies. It includes more than just a simple building of corporate image but it also becomes a modern idea of the enforcement of actual environmental trends to a broad spectrum of business activities. The field of action of green marketing tools is relatively extensive, starting with the protection of environment, production and sale of products and services with ecological conditions and requirements, through the final consumption of environmentally friendly products, which affects the quality of life and health of the whole society. The aim of the article includes to provide a literature review on the issue from several foreign and domestic authors. By using methods of description, comparison, deduction, induction, it discusses the essence of a green marketing and also analyses its use in a Slovak public transport company. Based on this, in discussion are indicated some proposals to improve the effectivity and visibility of these activities in the public transport company and thus ensure the image of the company as more environmental friendly. This measures help to improve the positive perception of the company by customers and the general public.
