Synthesis, Structural, Electrochemical, and DFT Studies of Highly Substituted Nonplanar Ni(II) Porphyrins and Their Intensity-Dependent Third-Order Nonlinear Optical Properties.

We designed and successfully synthesized highly substituted electron-deficient nonplanar Ni(II) porphyrins and their derivatives (1-7) in moderate to good yields. These derivatives were comprehensively characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis. SCXRD analysis confirmed the structures of compounds 2, 4, and 7, adopting saddle-shape geometry. These nonplanar porphyrins demonstrated significant bathochromic shifts in their absorption spectra compared to parent NiTPP, attributed to the influence of bulky β-substituents and/or peripheral fusion. π-Extended porphyrins 6 and 7 displayed panchromatic absorption spectra extending into the NIR region. Porphyrins 6 and 7 demonstrated a profound anodic shift (∼400 mV) in their first reduction peak potentials compared to precursor NiTPP(NO2)Br6. The experimental absorption spectral pattern matches the simulated absorption spectra obtained from TD-DFT studies. The femtosecond laser intensity-dependent third-order nonlinear optical studies revealed that NiDFP(VCN)2Br6 (6) and NiDFP(VCN)2(PE)6 (7) displayed giant optical nonlinearities compared to the other porphyrins. Among all, NiDFP(VCN)2Br6 (6) possessed the highest two-photon absorption coefficient (β) and cross-section (σTPA) values in the range of 22-33 × 10-10 m/W and 3.77-6.95 × 106 GM, respectively. These findings suggest that the investigated nonplanar π-extended porphyrins are promising candidates for future optoelectronic applications.

Control of Dynamic Chirality in Donor-Acceptor Fluorophores.

Very recently, the control of dynamic chirality has emerged as a powerful strategy to design chiral functional materials. In this context, we describe herein a molecular design in which a tethered configurationally stable binaphthyl chiral unit efficiently controls the dynamic chirality of donor-acceptor fluorophores, involving diverse indolocarbazoles as electron donors and terephthalonitrile as an electron acceptor. The high conformational discrimination in such a molecular system suggested by density functional theory calculations is experimentally probed using electronic and vibrational circular dichroism and confirmed by the crystallization of these chiral molecules in gel and their single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In addition to extending the scope of dynamic chirality control to donor-acceptor fluorophores, this work also highlights the positive effect of the configurationally stable chiral inductor on the magnitude of the dissymmetry factors of the active dynamically chiral fluorophores, both in ground and excited states, through chiral perturbation.

Transition metal azahemiporphycenes as singlet oxygen sensitizers

Using free-base tris([Formula: see text]-X-phenyl)corrole (X = H, Me, OMe) as starting materials and 4-aminotriazole as the nitrogen source, we used a DDQ-mediated, room-temperature strategy for generating isocorroles to obtain the corresponding 6-azahemiporphycenes, H2[X-AHP], one of which was structurally characterized with single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The free-base ligands were readily derivatized to their Pd(II), Pt(II), and Mn(II) complexes; of these, one Pd(II) complex was structurally characterized. Three of the complexes, M[Me-AHP] (M = Pd, Pt, Mn), were singled out for photophysical and singlet oxygen sensitization studies. Although none of the new complexes proved luminescent, Pd[Me-AHP] was found to be an excellent singlet oxygen sensitizer, with a singlet oxygen quantum yield of 84% in 9:1 v/v ethanol:tetrahydrofuran at room temperature. The corresponding value for Pt[Me-AHP] was found to be only 11% and that for Mn[Me-AHP] was essentially 0%. These singlet oxygen quantum yields were consonant with triplet lifetimes accessed via transition absorption spectroscopy. Combined with their strong absorption in the red, these findings suggest that palladium 6-azahemiporphycenes are worthy of exploration as a new class of triplet photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy of cancer and other diseases.

Construction of a Methoxy-Functionalized Pillar-Layer Metal-Organic framework for low-concentration SO2 uptake and adsorption separation

We report the synthesis and structural characterization of a novel methoxy (–OCH3) −functionalized pillar-layer metal–organic framework (MOF), denoted as DZU-17 (DZU=Dezhou University), which is isoreticular to Co6-MOF-3. DZU-17 is constructed by integrating a –OCH3 modified bipyridine ligand, 1,4-dipyridine-2,5-dimethoxybenzene (BPB-OCH3), into the framework of Co6-MOF-3. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis confirms that the introduction of the –OCH3 groups effectively partitions the spacious channels of Co6-MOF-3 into more confined spaces within DZU-17. This structural modification results in a significant enhancement in SO2 uptake at low −pressure (P=0.1 bar, 112.7 cm3 g−1) and improved separation capacity for SO2/CO2/N2 mixture under ambient conditions. Our findings underscore the potential of functional group engineering on MOF linkers to modulate pore dimensions and chemical environments, thereby enhancing the frameworks’ performance in gas adsorption and separation processes.

Bridge-dependent donor-metal-acceptor-metal-donor (D-M-A-M-D) systems: from charge transfer to electron transfer in dioxolene-Ge-diimine complexes.

Synthesis and structural characterization of a family of germanium-dioxolene complexes with ditopic N-donor ligands (L1-L5) (L1 = 1,2-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)hydrazine L2 = 1,6-bis-(pyridin-2-yl)-2,5-diaza-1,5-heхаdiene, L3 = N,N-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)-1,4-benzenediamine, L4 = N,N-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)-(biphenyl)-4,4-diamine, L5 = 2,2'-azopyridine) is reported. The reaction of germanium bis-catecholate with bridging ligands L1 - L4, differing by the nature of the linker between pyridine sites gives rise to dinuclear digermanium complexes (36Cat2Ge)2L1-4 (36Cat = dianion of 3,6-di-tert-butylcatechol) 1-4 of DMAMD type (donor-metal-acceptor-metal-donor) with a charge transfer in the UV-Vis region. In opposite, the interaction of the 36Cat2Ge with 2,2'-azopyridine (L5) results in the two-electron transfer from the donor 36Cat2- ligands to the azopyridine bridge forming stable open-shell complex 5 [(36SQ)(36CatGe)]2(L5)2- (36SQ = radical-anionic semiquinonate ligand). Molecular structures of compounds 3 and 5 were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Electronic structures of complexes 1-5 were studied by means of DFT calculations.

Isolation of Elusive Fluoflavine Radicals in Two Differing Oxidation States.

Facile access and switchability between multiple oxidation states are key properties of many catalytic applications and spintronic devices yet poorly understood due to inherent complications arising from isolating a redox system in multiple oxidation states without drastic structural changes. Here, we present the first isolable, free fluoflavine (flv) radical flv(1-•) as a bottleable potassium compound, [K(crypt-222)](flv•), 1, and a new series of organometallic rare earth complexes [(Cp*2Y)2(μ-flvz)]X, (where Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl, X = [Al(OC{CF3}3)4]- (z = -1), 2; X = 0 (z = -2), 3; [K(crypt-222)]+ (z = -3), 4) comprising the flv ligand in three different oxidation states, two of which are paramagnetic flv1-• and flv3-•. Excitingly, 1, 2, and 4 constitute the first isolable flv1-• and flv3-• radical complexes and, to date, the only isolated flv radicals of any oxidation state. All compounds are accessible in good crystalline yields and were unambiguously characterized via single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, cyclic voltammetry, IR-, UV-vis, and variable-temperature EPR spectroscopy. Remarkably, the EPR spectra for 1, 2, and 4 are distinct and a testament to stronger spin delocalization onto the metal centers as a function of higher charge on the flv radical. In-depth analysis of the electron- and spin density via density functional theory (DFT) calculations utilizing NLMO, QTAIM, and spin density topology analysis confirmed the fundamental interplay of metal coordination, ligand oxidation state, aromaticity, covalency, and spin density transfer, which may serve as blueprints for the development of future spintronic devices, single-molecule magnets, and quantum information science at large.

Pyrazolone-Based Zn(II) Complexes Display Antitumor Effects in Mutant p53-Carrying Cancer Cells.

The synthesis and characterization of nine Schiff bases of pyrazolone ligands HLn (n = 1-9) and the corresponding zinc(II) complexes 1-9 of composition [Zn(Ln)2] (n = 1-9) are reported. The molecular structures of complexes 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, highlighting in all cases a distorted tetrahedral geometry around the Zn(II) ion. Density functional theory studies are performed on both the HLn ligands and the derived complexes. A mechanism of dissociation and hydrolyzation of the coordinated Schiff base ligands is suggested, confirmed experimentally by powder X-ray diffraction study and photophysical studies. Complexes 1-9 were investigated in vitro as anticancer agents, along with mutant p53 (mutp53) protein levels in human cancer cell lines carrying R175H and R273H mutp53 proteins. Only those complexes with the highest Zn(II) ion release via dissociation have shown a significant cytotoxic activity with reduction of mutp53 protein levels.

Total Synthesis of the Phenylnaphthacenoid Type II Polyketide Antibiotic Formicamycin H via Regioselective Ruthenium-Catalyzed Hydrogen Auto-Transfer [4 + 2] Cycloaddition.

The first total synthesis of the pentacyclic phenylnaphthacenoid type II polyketide antibiotic formicamycin H is described. A key feature of the synthesis involves the convergent, regioselective assembly of the tetracyclic core via ruthenium-catalyzed α-ketol-benzocyclobutenone [4 + 2] cycloaddition. Double dehydration of the diol-containing cycloadduct provides an achiral enone, which upon asymmetric nucleophilic epoxidation and further manipulations delivers the penultimate tetracyclic trichloride in enantiomerically enriched form. Subsequent chemo- and atroposelective Suzuki cross-coupling of the tetracyclic trichloride introduces the E-ring to complete the total synthesis. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses of two model compounds suggest that the initially assigned stereochemistry of the axially chiral C6-C7 linkage may require revision.

Synthesis of furo[2,3-c]carbazoles as potent α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitors

The carbazole-3-carbaldehyde 2, produced by N-ethyl carbazole via Vilsmeier-Haack reaction, was subjected to Dakin type oxidation with H2O2 and H2SO4 in methanol to produce the carbazole-3-ol 3. The reaction of 3 with a range of commercially available α-haloketones 4a–f in the presence of Al2O3 as catalyst in xylene led to their regio-selective cyclization to afford the furo[2,3-c]carbazoles 5a–f. Identification of the furo[2,3-c]carbazoles 5a–f were performed through 1H NMR,13C NMR, FT-IR and high resolution mass spectrometry. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis was employed to further confirm the structures of the some of the targeted compounds. In vitro antidiabetic activities of the newly synthesized furocarbazoles 5a–e were investigated utilizing α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes. The biological evaluation revealed the obvious efficiencies of the targeted molecules toward the α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition with the potent IC50 values compared to the standard acarbose. In the case of α-glucosidase inhibition, the furo[2,3-c]carbazoles chloro substituted 5c and nitro substituted 5f were found to be more potent than acarbose with the values of 215.0 and 162.70 μM, respectively. On the other hand, the compound 5f was found to be only promising candidate for α-amylase enzyme but not as effective as the standard acarbose.

μ-Chlorido-bis{[1-benzyl-3-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene-κC]silver(I)} chloride 1,2-dichloroethane hemisolvate

The title compound, [Ag2(C19H20N2)4]Cl·0.5C2H4Cl2, can be readily generated by treatment of (1-benzyl-3-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazolium chloride with sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide followed by silver chloride. The molecular structure of the compound was confirmed using NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal structure of the title compound at 110 K has monoclinic (P21/c) symmetry. The represented silver compound is of interest with respect to antibacterial properties and the structure displays a series of weak intermolecular hydrogen-bonding interactions with the chloride counter-anion.

Novel copper-drugs bearing dipodal bis-mercaptobenzimidazoles: Synthesis, crystal structures, in vitro biological activities, DNA binding, DFT calculations and molecular docking

Three novel copper(II) complexes, 1–3, bearing dipodal bis-mercaptobenzimidazole derivatives based on ortho-, meta- or para-xylene (L1, L2, and L3) were successfully prepared and characterized by using various spectral techniques, including elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR, and UV–Vis spectroscopy, LC-MS spectrometry and TGA. The analysis revealed that the ligand/metal molar ratio in all copper(II) complexes is 1:1 and the ligand coordinates as a neutral N-donor onto metal center. Additionally, the crystal structures of L1, L2, L3, and copper(II) complex 2 were determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) analysis. Copper(II) complexes 1–3 displayed significant stability at pH range of 4–10. The antibacterial effect of ligands and complexes was tested against both gram-negative (Escherichia coli, E. coli ATCC 25922 PTCC 1399) and gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, S. aureus ATCC 6538 PTCC 1112) bacterial strains. It should be noted that the complexes showed enhanced antibacterial activity (up to 99 %) when compared to their free ligands. The in vitro studies of all synthesized compounds consisted of testing them against the human colorectal carcinoma cancer cell line (HCT-116) using the MTT assay. The findings revealed that the copper(II) complexes exhibited lower CC50 values (CC50 ranging from 0.045 mM to 0.135 mM) compared to their corresponding ligands (CC50 ranging from 0.150 mM to 0.240 mM) and carboplatin (CC50 = 0.165 mM), indicating higher anticancer activity of the complexes. Additionally, DAPI staining and fluorescence spectroscopy (at three different temperatures) were performed to further examine the impact of complexes 1–3 on inducing apoptosis and to explore their interaction with DNA, respectively. The results revealed a dynamic quenching mechanism, with hydrophobic forces playing a dominant role in the binding process. The viscosity measurements indicated that all complexes could interact in a groove binding manner with DNA. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to support the structural and vibrational studies and to predict the chemical reactivity. Docking simulations were conducted to evaluate their behavior of the synthesized compounds towards DNA (PDB: 1BNA). These results suggested that various elements, including NH groups, imidazole rings, thioetheric sulfur atom and sulfate moieties of ligands and complexes, are involved in groove binding with DNA.

Ultraviolet Nonlinear Optical Single Crystals of A Three-Dimensional Chiral Covalent Framework Containing Te-O-B-O Bonds.

Extending covalent organic frameworks (COFs) into crystalline carbon-free covalent backbones is an important strategy to endow these materials with more exotic functions. Integrating metal-free inorganic and organic components into one covalent framework is an effective way to address the issue of poor thermal/solvent stability in the field of nonlinear optics (NLO). However, constructing such structures is very challenging. Here, we linked 3-connected nods (BO3) and 2-connected organic building blocks (Te(Ph)2) together to produce colorless single crystals (size up to 400 µm) of a three-dimensional (3D) chiral covalent framework (CityU-22). The single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis reveals that CityU-22 has a non-carbon Te-O-B-O bond-based network with the srs topology. The chiral CityU-22 displays good stability under the treatment of different common solvents or heat (the decomposition temperature above 300 °C). Due to its non-π-conjugated backbone (-Te-O-B-O-), CityU-22 shows an ultraviolet NLO behavior with a second-harmonic generation (SHG) response similar to KH2PO4 (KDP).

Six new coordination polymers based on 3-carboxy-1-(3′-carboxybenzyl)-2-oxidopyridinium: Syntheses, crystal structures and properties

In this work, we have synthesized six coordination polymers using the organic ligand 3-carboxy-1-(3′-carboxybenzyl)-2-oxidopyridinium (H2L). The compounds, named [Co(L)(H2O)2]n (1), [Co(L)(2,2′-bpy)(H2O)]n (2), [Co(L)(4,4′-bpy)0.5]n (3), [Mn2(L)2(H2O)2]n (4), [Mn(L)(2,2′-bpy)(H2O)]n (5) and [Mn(L)(phen)(H2O)]n (6), where 2,2′-bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine, 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, were prepared under hydrothermal conditions and characterized using various physical measurements. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses show that compounds 1–6 possess different structures because of multiple coordination modes and weak interactions. The Hirshfeld surface analyses of compounds 1–6 have also been studied in detail.

Analysis on optical, thermal and third-order nonlinear properties of L-histidine hydrochloride monohydrate single crystal

This research contributes valuable insights into the understanding of third-order nonlinear optical effects in L-histidine hydrochloride monohydrate (LHHC) single crystal, offering a foundation for future work in optimizing its properties for practical applications in the field of nonlinear optics. It presents a systematic analysis into the LHHC crystal properties harvested by slow evaporation solution (SEST) method. Originally, structure of the compound was confirmed through single crystal x-ray diffraction and powder x-ray diffraction analysis. FTIR analysis was performed to get information about molecular composition of the compound. The assessment of the optical quality of LHHC single crystal was done by UV–Visible and photoluminescence spectroscopies. TG-DTA was employed to assess the stability of the single crystal under different temperature conditions. Z-scan technique, with an open aperture (OA) & closed aperture (CA) configuration, was employed to comprehensively explore the third-order nonlinear response of LHHC single crystal. The nonlinear absorption coefficient β is determined to be 5.32 × 10−10 cm W−1. The NLR index (n2) is calculated as −2.72 × 10−15 cm2 W−1.

Oxindolyl-based Radicals with Tunable Mechanochromic and Thermochromic Behavior.

Organic radicals based dynamic covalent chemistry is promising in preparing stimuli-responsive chromic materials, due to their simplicity of dissociation/association, accompanied with distinct color changes during the process. However, suitable organic radicals for dynamic covalent chemistry have not been widely explored yet. Herein, a series of oxindolyl-based mono-radicals (OxRs) with different substituents were successfully synthesized and studied systematically as potential building blocks for stimuli-responsive chromic materials. These OxRs would dimerize spontaneously to form their corresponding dimers. The structures of dimers were unambiguously confirmed through low-temperature 1H-NMR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Dynamic interconversion between monomers and dimers was achieved by reversible cleavage and recovery of the σ-bond upon soft external stimuli (temperature, pressure, and solvent polarity), accompanied by significant color changes. It is interesting that the stability of the mono-radical could be tuned through changing different substituents, and consequently altering the bond dissociation energy of the dynamic covalent bond between monomers. These new OxRs characterized by appreciable properties are entitled to more opportunities in developing mechanochromic and thermochromic materials, where their responsiveness to stimuli can be readily controlled by the substituents adhered.

Synthesis and characterization of a zinc-triazole coordination complex with potent antimicrobial and anticancer properties

The synthesis, characterization, and biological appraisement of a novel coordination compound [Zn(C4N4H5O)2(H2O)2]Cl have been comprehensively studied. The compound was synthesized using N-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl) acetamide and ZnCl2·6H2O, yielding a product characterized by FT-IR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and single crystal X-ray diffraction. FT-IR spectra confirmed the successful coordination of the ligand to the zinc ion, with significant shifts in characteristic absorption bands such as CO (1685 cm⁻¹), CN (1624 cm⁻¹), and NH (3394 cm⁻¹). Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that the complex crystallized in the monoclinic system with space group P21/c and forms six-membered chelate rings. The unit cell parameters were a = 6.0595(3) Å, b = 14.2956(7) Å, c = 9.4762(4) Å, and β = 93.275(4)°. Thermal analysis showed that the complex undergoes stepwise decomposition with significant mass losses at various temperature intervals, including an overall mass loss of 71.09 % between 200 °C and 885 °C. Molecular docking studies indicated strong interactions between the [Zn(C4N4H5O)2(H2O)2]Cl complex and the 6QF6 cancer-related protein antigen A4, with low binding energy values (-9.32 to -8.44 kcal/mol) suggesting high binding affinity and potential biological activity. In vitro antimicrobial screening against several pathogenic microorganisms, viz. both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, demonstrated that the [Zn(C4N4H5O)2(H2O)2]Cl complex exhibited superior antibacterial activity, with inhibition zone diameters of 15.3 ± 0.47 mm for Bacillus subtilis and 24.17±0.56 mm for Agrobacterium tumefaciens, compared to N-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl) acetamide alone and some standard antibiotics. These findings highlight the [Zn(C4N4H5O)2(H2O)2]Cl complex as a promising candidate for developing new antimicrobial and anticancer agents, providing a foundation for further research and potential therapeutic applications.

3D Lead-Organoselenide-Halide Perovskites and their Mixed-Chalcogenide and Mixed-Halide Alloys.

We incorporate Se into the 3D halide perovskite framework using the zwitterionic ligand: SeCYS (+NH3(CH2)2Se-), which occupies both the X- and A+ sites in the prototypical ABX3 perovskite. The new organoselenide-halide perovskites: (SeCYS)PbX2 (X = Cl, Br) expand upon the recently discovered organosulfide-halide perovskites. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction and pair distribution function analysis reveal the average structures of the organoselenide-halide perovskites, whereas the local lead coordination environments and their distributions were probed through solid-state 77Se and 207Pb NMR, complemented by theoretical simulations. Density functional theory calculations illustrate that the band structures of (SeCYS)PbX2 largely resemble those of their S analogs, with similar band dispersion patterns, yet with a considerable bandgap decrease. Optical absorbance measurements indeed show bandgaps of 2.07 and 1.86 eV for (SeCYS)PbX2 with X = Cl and Br, respectively. We further demonstrate routes to alloying the halides (Cl, Br) and chalcogenides (S, Se) continuously tuning the bandgap from 1.86 to 2.31 eV-straddling the ideal range for tandem solar cells or visible-light photocatalysis. The comprehensive description of the average and local structures, and how they can fine-tune the bandgap and potential trap states, respectively, establishes the foundation for understanding this new perovskite family, which combines solid-state and organo-main-group chemistry.

1D Lead Bromide Hybrids Directed by Complex Cations: Syntheses, Structures, Optical and Photocatalytic Properties.

This study presents the synthesis, structural characterization, and evaluation of the photocatalytic performance of two novel one-dimensional (1D) lead(II) bromide hybrids, [Co(2,2'-bpy)3][Pb2Br6CH3OH] (1) and [Fe(2,2'-bpy)3][Pb2Br6] (2), synthesized via solvothermal reactions. These compounds incorporate transition metal complex cations as structural directors, contributing to the unique photophysical and photocatalytic properties of the resulting materials. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that both compounds crystallize in monoclinic space groups with distinct 1D lead bromide chain configurations influenced by the nature of the complex cations. Optical property assessments show band gaps of 3.04 eV and 2.02 eV for compounds 1 and 2, respectively, indicating their potential for visible light absorption. Photocurrent measurements indicate a significantly higher electron-hole separation efficiency in compound 2, correlated with its narrower band gap. Additionally, photocatalytic evaluations demonstrate that while both compounds degrade organic dyes effectively, compound 2 also exhibits notable hydrogen evolution activity under visible light, a property not observed in 1. These findings highlight the role of metal complex cations in tuning the electronic and structural properties of lead(II) bromide hybrids, enhancing their applicability in photocatalytic and optoelectronic devices.

A new three-dimensional barium(II) coordination polymer constructed from N,N'-bis(glycinyl)pyromellitic diimide: microwave-assisted synthesis, structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis and properties.

A new three-dimensional (3D) coordination polymer, namely, poly[diaqua[μ5-2,2'-(1,3,5,7-tetraoxo-1,2,3,5,6,7-hexahydropyrrolo[3,4-f]isoindole-2,6-diyl)diacetato]barium(II)], [Ba(C14H6N2O8)(H2O)2]n, (I), has been synthesized by the microwave-irradiated reaction of Ba(NO3)2 with N,N'-bis(glycinyl)pyromellitic diimide {BGPD, namely, 2,2'-(1,3,5,7-tetraoxo-1,2,3,5,6,7-hexahydropyrrolo[3,4-f]isoindole-2,6-diyl)diacetatic acid, H2L}. The title compound was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and powder X-ray diffraction analysis, as well as IR spectroscopy. In the crystal structure of (I), the BaII ion is nine-coordinated by six carboxylate O atoms from five symmetry-related L2- dianions and one imide O atom, as well as two water O atoms. The coordination geometry of the central BaII ion can be described as a spherical capped square antiprism. One carboxylate group of the ligand serves as a μ3-bridge linking the BaII cations into a one-dimensional polynuclear secondary building unit (SBU). Another carboxylate group of the ligand acts as a μ2-bridge connecting the 1D SBUs, thereby forming a two-dimensional (2D) SBU. The resulting 2D SBUs are extended into a 3D framework via the pyromellitic diimide moiety of the ligand as a spacer. The 3D Ba framework can be simplified as a 5-connected hexagonal boron nitride net (bnn) topology. The intermolecular interactions in the 3D framework were further investigated by Hirshfeld surface analysis and the results show that the prominent interactions are H...O (45.1%), Ba...O (11.1%) and C...H (11.1%), as well as H...H (11.1%) contacts. The thermal stability, photoluminescence properties and UV-Vis absorption spectra of (I) were also investigated. The coordination polymer exhibits a fluorescence emission with a quantum yield of 0.071 and high thermal stability.

Single-crystal growth, crystal structure, and molecular dynamics of organic–inorganic [NH3(CH2)2NH3]CuBr4

As part of obtaining excellent properties that can be used as lead-free hybrid solar cells, the crystal growth, crystal structure, phase transition temperature, and thermal properties for [NH3(CH2)2NH3]CuBr4 were discussed. The crystal structure at 300 K was determined to be monoclinic by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The phase transition temperatures were determined to be 447 and 473 K, and the results were consistent with the powder XRD patterns. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed thermal stability up to ~ 460 K. The continuous changes in the 1H and 13C chemical shifts and 14N static resonance frequency with increasing temperature are related to variations in the local environment and coordination geometry. The significant differences in activation energies obtained from the 1H and 13C spin–lattice relaxation times (t1ρ) at low and high temperatures were discussed. The activation energy results suggested that the energy barrier at low temperatures was related to the reorientation of the NH3 and CH2 groups around the three-fold symmetry axis, and the energy barrier at high temperatures was related to the reorientation of the [NH3(CH2)2NH3] cation.
