The increasing rate of deforestation in Indonesia has become a critical environmental issue that threatens ecological balance and undermines global climate change mitigation efforts. In response, the Indonesian government implemented a permanent forest moratorium policy through Presidential Instruction No. 5 of 2019, aiming to halt the issuance of new permits for primary forest and peatland exploitation. However, its effectiveness at the local level remains questionable, particularly in regions facing strong economic pressures such as Lembang Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the forest moratorium policy in Lembang using the EMMIE Framework, which evaluates five dimensions: Effect, Mechanism, Moderators, Implementation, and Economy. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with local government officials, community leaders, tourism operators, and residents, complemented by field observations and document analysis. The results reveal that while the moratorium policy has succeeded in stopping the issuance of new forest conversion permits, illegal land use for tourism and commercial purposes continues to occur due to weak law enforcement, overlapping institutional authority, and low community participation. The analysis further shows that economic pressures and the high market value of forest land act as significant drivers of policy violations. From an implementation perspective, the lack of coordination between central and local agencies hinders policy consistency and sustainability. The study concludes that the effectiveness of the forest moratorium policy in Lembang remains limited and recommends strengthening institutional coordination, enhancing community involvement, enforcing stricter supervision, and promoting sustainable livelihood alternatives to balance environmental protection and local economic development.

The Lembang fault is located very close to the Citatah industrial area in West Bandung Regency. This location makes the Citatah industrial area highly susceptible to earthquakes caused by the Lembang Fault.. The aim of this research is to map the distribution of factories which are part of the earthquake risk, danger and vulnerability zone. The method used is a survey method using the Geographic Information System application. Information on vulnerabilities, hazards and risks is obtained through INARISK, while factory distribution is obtained by direct site surveys. Based on the analysis, it was found that the Citatah karst area has 34 mining factories spread close to the main road. The vulnerability assessment describes that 33 factories are in locations with high vulnerability, while moderate vulnerability consists of 1 factory. The hazard analysis describes that there are 20 factories in the high-risk zone, 10 factories in the medium risk zone and 4 factories in the low-risk zone. The risk of earthquake disasters has three classifications, namely low, medium and high. Based on the analysis, it was found that 26 factories were in the high-risk zone and 8 factories were in the medium zone. This area is close to the Lembang fault, so it is at high and medium risk. The blue butterfly pea flower (Clitoria ternatea) is a medicinal plant rich in bioactive compounds, including anthocyanins and flavonoids, with health benefits and potential in the food and cosmetics industries. There has been no scientific study on the non-specific parameters of cultivated butterfly pea flowers and their simple quality related to the environmental conditions in the village. Standardization of non-specific parameters, such as moisture content, ash content, and microbial contamination, is crucial to ensure the quality and safety of butterfly pea-based products. This research aims to analyze the non-specific parameters of butterfly pea in support of developing quality standards suitable for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The research method uses experimental techniques, starting with sample collection, laboratory analysis, and data analysis. The results of the water-soluble ash test, 99.63% indicate contamination by inorganic compounds that dissolve in water, while the acid-insoluble ash content of 0.09% suggests minimal contamination by silica. The water-soluble extract content of 54.98% and the ethanol-soluble extract content of 99.98% indicate the solubility of compounds in solvents, which are important for the extraction and formulation of traditional medicine products or herbal products that use water and ethanol as solvents. In conclusion, the results of non-specific parameter tests on the blue butterfly pea flower simplicia from Cipangeran Village indicate that the simplicia has excellent physicochemical qualities.

BackgroundStunting, a condition in which children fail to achieve their expected height for age, is a significant public health problem, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The nutrition and caring practices of mothers and children during the first 1000 days of life determine the ability of a child to develop, learn, and thrive; however, mothers who work may not be able to ensure that their child is receiving adequate nutrition in the early stages of life. This study aimed to identify the determinants of working mothers’ stunting prevention behavior, including individual factors, work-related stress, well-being, knowledge, and attitudes toward the behavior of working mothers in supporting the prevention of stunting in West Java Province, Indonesia.MethodsThis study used a cross-sectional design with a total sample of 225 working mothers in 78 offices mapped in Bandung city, Bekasi city, Bekasi Regency, Karawang Regency, West Bandung Regency, and Sumedang Regency in West Java Province, Indonesia. The inclusion criteria were as follows: working mothers aged 18 and above who reside and work in 6 cities/regencies of the study, have at least one child under the age of 5 years, and have consented to participate. The questionnaire consisted of demographic data and health characteristics, as well as questionnaires on knowledge, attitudes, work-related stress, well-being, and stunting prevention behavior. The data were analyzed using chi-square tests and logistic regression.ResultsAmong the 19 variables, two determinant factors influence stunting prevention behavior among working mothers in West Java Province, Indonesia. These factors are working mothers’ well-being (OR 3.30, P < 0.001) and knowledge about stunting prevention (OR 2.79, P < 0.001). A low level of well-being among working mothers increases the risk of poor stunting prevention behavior by 3.30 times. Similarly, insufficient knowledge about stunting prevention increases this risk by 2.79 times. The interplay between well-being and knowledge may improve mothers’ stunting prevention behavior.ConclusionsWorking mothers’ well-being and knowledge of stunting prevention affect their stunting prevention behavior. This study is the first in Indonesia to explore the determinant factors of stunting prevention behavior among working mothers. Working mothers should receive special attention from the government regarding their rights to improve their well-being and knowledge related to their health. Further research should adopt longitudinal and intervention-based designs, include other caregivers, and explore diverse geographic and employment settings. Research on workplace and policy-level support systems is also recommended to inform more comprehensive strategies for improving child health outcomes.Supplementary InformationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1186/s12889-025-24078-0.

Generally, illegal activities are taboo to discuss, let alone perform. But does vote-buying carry the same stigma, or is it instead normalized as part of election tradition? This research investigates how the public perceives vote-buying practices and its impact on democracy, using a case study of West Bandung Regency, Indonesia. A quantitative survey was conducted on 1,200 respondents from November 10th to 14th, 2024, approximately 2 weeks before the 2024 Regional Elections (Pilkada). The findings reveal that vote-buying, despite its illegality, is not heavily stigmatized in the public eye. Nearly half of the respondents rationalized the practice in elections, and almost all of these respondents expressed willingness to accept money from candidates. Interestingly, a majority of those willing to accept money still stated they would vote according to their conscience—not the will of the vote “buyer”—in the secrecy of the polling booth. Furthermore, respondents tended to be responsive to the amount of money offered: the larger the sum, the more likely they were to comply with the payer's wishes—vice versa. These findings make a significant theoretical contribution by demonstrating that vote-buying, while widely considered wrong both legally and morally, nonetheless enjoys a high level of social acceptance. However, they contrast with traditional reciprocity theory, which assumes vote-buying functions like a transaction for goods/services; here, money does not always translate directly into votes, as voters still wish to vote according to their conscience. Practically, this research urges policymakers to address vote-buying systemically. It also criticizes previous solutions proven ineffective and suggests potential best solutions.

The phenomenon of high employee turnover in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector, including at the Gurilem Tofu Factory in West Bandung Regency, is the main focus of this study. The high rate of employee turnover is considered to have a negative impact on operational efficiency, internal stability, and overall business sustainability. High turnover creates uncertainty in production rhythms, increases training costs for new employees, and decreases productivity. Based on these conditions, this study was designed to answer three main research questions: what communication patterns are implemented by business owners, to what extent is the relationship between effective communication and employee turnover, and what strategic recommendations can be implemented to improve communication patterns in order to reduce turnover rates. The purpose of this study is to identify, analyze, and evaluate the communication strategies of business owners in building more stable, harmonious, and productive work relationships. This study is based on the theory of effective communication which includes five main indicators, namely: understanding, enjoyment, influence on attitudes, improving interpersonal relationships, and encouraging action. In addition, the theory of employee turnover is used as a foundation to understand the factors causing resignation intentions, such as job dissatisfaction, lack of recognition, and limited development opportunities. The approach used in this study was descriptive qualitative, with data collection methods including in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation with the owner and two employees. Triangulation techniques were applied to ensure the validity and reliability of the data. The results indicate that the communication patterns implemented by the business owner largely met the criteria for effective communication, such as delivering clear instructions and using polite language. However, obstacles remained, such as a lack of firmness regarding disciplinary violations and a lack of initiative in building team cohesion, which contributed to the high turnover rate.

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a major contributor to neonatal mortality and developmental disorders in Indonesia. In West Bandung Regency, the prevalence of LBW remains high and plays a significant role in the overall infant mortality rate in West Java Province. Despite this, no locally adapted predictive model has been developed to assess LBW risk based on maternal characteristics. This study aimed to construct a predictive model for LBW using maternal factors among mothers delivering at three district public hospitals: RSUD Cililin, RSUD Lembang, and RSUD Cikalong Wetan. This quantitative study employed a retrospective approach involving 265 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected from medical records and brief interviews and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The research was conducted between January and March 2024. The results showed that among six independent variables tested, three had a statistically significant effect on infant birth weight: maternal age (p = 0.047), maternal weight gain during pregnancy (p = 0.004), and parity (p < 0.001). The predictive model generated was: Y = 2570.162 + 3.739X₁ – 11.501X₂ – 94.726X₃, with an R² value of 0.464, indicating that 46.4% of the variation in birth weight can be explained by the model. The model suggests that maternal age positively influences birth weight, whereas excessive maternal weight gain and higher parity show a negative relationship. This model can be used by healthcare providers as an early screening tool to detect LBW risk and to support targeted nutrition education and antenatal interventions at health service facilities.

Agrarian reform is a strategic policy to create equitable distribution of land tenure and people's welfare. Land Redistribution Object Agrarian Reform (TORA) is the main instrument to overcome inequality in land tenure. This policy aims to provide legal certainty for land recipient communities and encourage productive and sustainable land use. However, in its implementation, there are still various obstacles, such as land disputes, uncertainty about the status of land laws, and a lack of policy synergy between the central and regional governments. Based on this description, the purpose of this study is to examine the implementation of asset structuring through TORA redistribution in providing legal certainty for Agrarian Reform subjects and to find out the legal protection of ownership for Agrarian Reform subjects whose land objects are problematic as reviewed from Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2018 or Presidential Regulation Number 62 of 2023. The research method used is normative juridical with a legal approach and case studies located in Ngargosari village, Kendal Regency and Pagerwangi Punclut village, West Bandung Regency. The data collection technique was carried out through literature studies and interviews with the local Land Office. The data analysis method uses qualitative normative analysis. The results of the study show that legal certainty on TORA redistribution in Indonesia already exists. However, in its implementation, there are still several obstacles, especially in the lack of transparency in the redistribution process and the lack of supervision over the implementation of the TORA redistribution policy. In addition, legal protection for the subject of Agrarian Reform is still not optimal. Therefore, concrete steps are needed to ensure that the land objects distributed are free from disputes, the priority resolution of land conflicts, and the improvement of legal assistance and inter-institutional coordination to ensure legal certainty and protection for the subject of Agrarian Reform.

Single elderly individuals represent a vulnerable group facing physical, economic, and social limitations in meeting their basic needs, including access to nutritious food. The food assistance program organized by the Ministry of Social Affairs through a community-based approach serves as a strategic solution to enhance the welfare of the elderly. This study aims to analyze the management of the food assistance program for single elderly individuals in Bojongkoneng Village, Ngamprah Subdistrict, based on the four management functions by George R. Terry: planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, observation, and document study involving eight key informants. The findings indicate that the program has been implemented systematically but remains suboptimal and lacks standardization across all managerial aspects. The main issues include the absence of individual assessments, unclear recruitment standards for community groups (Pokmas), lack of technical and occupational safety procedures (SOPs), and a weak monitoring and evaluation system. This study recommends the development of elderly needs assessments, formulation of SOPs, and strengthening of Pokmas institutional capacity and data-based supervision systems to improve the quality and sustainability of elderly food assistance programs.
