Introduction to Critical Thinking in Educational Model for Visual Communication Design Methods: Study Case Design Methods Class for Visual Communication Design Program at Binus University, Indonesia.

Based on the Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA), where problem-solving skills and critical thinking were measured the Indonesian students ranked below standard. In a smaller scope, there were other phenomenon in the learning process of a Design Methods class, in the Visual Communication Design programme at Binus University where students struggled to perform design analysis specifically on the part where the process of classifying which data belong to each of the three analytical aspects of the Triadic, despite definitions had been given in the prior session. In The Ethics, Aristotle thought about classifying as one of the thinking processes that would help in the process of analyzing. According to the Reboot Foundation, an institution dedicated to critical thinking research in the United States of America, critical thinking is needed in the decision-making process. The study was conducted to find the influence of the addition critical thinking method in C-F-C Triadic, one of the design thinking methods, in its learning process. The method in this investigation is qualitative primary data collection based on the observation of two different classes, class A and class B. In class A, the learning process was given following the existing learning process, while in class B, an additional short critical thinking demo was given in the first session of the class. The result was elevation in the analysis performance of the students in class B.

Nameplate Designs, Headline Point Sizes, and Colour on Nigerian Newspapers: A Study of Selected National Dailies

Nigerian newspapers are consciously adapting to visual design formats in their bid to appeal to consumers. These visual design methods involve the arrangement of page furniture, such as headlines, colour, and nameplates, in a way that is visually attractive and perceptive to the reader. This study sought to discover the current application of colour, headline typefaces, and point sizes, as well as nameplate designs, on four of the nation’s leading daily newspapers: <i>Vanguard, The Punch, Daily Sun, </i>and<i> Leadership, </i>from September 2014 to August 2015. Twenty-four issues of each of these titles were sampled for the study over a period of 12 months, from September 2014 to August 2015. These resulted in a sample frame of 96 issues of the selected newspapers. The population of the four daily newspapers during the period was 1,048, made up of 261 daily issues of <i>Vanguard</i>, 261 issues of <i>The Punch</i>, 263 issues of the <i>Daily Sun, </i>and 263 issues of <i>Leadership</i>. The study which was anchored in the Gestalt theory of visual perception adopted the visual analysis method of research. The methodology was chosen because it addresses a designer’s formal elements, such as visual attributes best explained in the form of colour, line, texture, and size. Data obtained from the sampled newspapers was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.0. The findings were that each of these newspapers paid attention to the design of its nameplate, printed the front and back pages in colour and applied bold headlines to attract the attention of readers during the period of the study.

Depth-Guided Filtering-Based Null-Domain Background Suppression for Graphic Image Enhancement in Visual Communication Design

Background noise, for example, can influence the outcome of target recognition in the visual communication design of weak target images, lowering the visual communication effect. In order to achieve this, this paper proposes a visual communication design method for weak target images based on spatiotemporal domain filtering. It uses guided filtering to smooth the image and raise the gray level of weak target points, and then obtains the background baseline of target points in the image sequence through the micro-partial equation to complete the image’s spatiotemporal domain background suppression. The best visual communication design result is achieved. The experimental findings demonstrate that the suggested approach has a good visual communication effect and that the pace of communication is not constrained by the size of the images.

Visual Communication Design Method in Folk Art Based on Multimedia Data Transmission Technology

With the rapid development of science and technology and China's economy, the internet, big data, computers, and multimedia technology are widely used in all walks of life to promote the application and improvement of visual communication design concepts, the gradual implementation of multimedia technology, and the continuous improvement of innovation. In this paper, from the multimedia transmission technology based on network coding, some key technologies in the network communication of data and video streams are studied in depth and, based on the transmission-quality assessment model, the working effect of the jitter-buffering algorithm and WebRTC jitter-buffering algorithm is compared in different network environments. The experimental results show that the jitter-buffering algorithm proposed in this paper has better working effect. This research is of great significance for the realization of multimedia transmission technology in next-generation networks.

Exploration of Visual Communication Design Methods Combining Virtual Reality Technology

Abstract As digital media technologies evolve, immersive experiences have increasingly become a focal point in the field of visual communication design. This paper explores the practical implications of integrating visual communication design with cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) technology and proposes a novel method rooted in VR. Our first innovative approach involves a virtual space reconstruction technique that leverages the central eye concept to mitigate discrepancies in user experiences due to varying perceptions of content. Subsequently, we employ the Gabor wavelet transform method to extract key visual features pertinent to human-computer interaction. This allows us to develop a perceptual model of visual targets in human-computer interactions, thereby enhancing the accuracy and efficacy of visual communication by grounding it in sensory cognition and user experience. In practical application, the visual communication design method proposed in this paper has a high signal-to-noise ratio (avg=43.407) and a short computing time (avg=2.24), and its overall recognition rate in multi-sensory virtual experience is as high as 95.6%. The study validates the viability of the virtual reality-based visual communication design method proposed in this paper and encourages the innovative development of visual communication design.

Visual Communication Design Method Based on Multimedia Information Processing Technology and Its Application

Abstract When the information society has become the mainstream environment, various applications of big data and computers have been popularized in various industries. Multimedia technology has always been a special part of the computer field. In audio, video, image processing, and transmission, multimedia information processing has become the main means to solve the above problems. The performance of this information processing technology is extremely powerful. It can not only process dynamic data but also complete the transmission task in the big data environment. Visual communication design is a way of transmitting information to the masses by using various effects, and it has its advantages in the selection of images, video, text, and other processing technologies. This paper mainly studies the concept, method, and application effect of visual communication design under multimedia information processing. Firstly, the application of multimedia information processing technology in various fields and countries is investigated. Based on the literature analysis and statistics, the advantage tendency of this technology is judged. Starting from the visual functions involved in visual communication, the application effect of the multimedia 3D image processing and rendering communication platform is used. The gray function is used to build the multimedia information processing platform and form a complete and effective evaluation system. Finally, the visual communication design optimized by multimedia processing technology is further analyzed to improve the defects of dynamic images in visual applications and further improve the impact of visual communication design on the masses. The results show that multimedia information processing technology can improve the efficiency of image data processing in visual communication design, and has a good impact on visual communication of dynamic information.

Design and Production of Visual Image of Print Advertisement Based on Mobile Media

With the rapid development of science and technology, various fields (such as information and multimedia) have been combined with each other into a complete field of print advertising design. The visual image is the main part of showing the expressive power of graphic advertising, which intuitively explains the design creativity of the advertisement. It uses visual expression to attract the audience’s first attention and stimulate consumer emotions. However, with the continuous change of people’s aesthetic art and aesthetic needs, ordinary print advertisements can no longer meet the needs of consumers. The continuous development of science and technology has promoted the spread of mobile media. Mobile media applications not only integrate with people’s daily life but also bring people various mobile media advertisements. It realizes the multimedia and diversification of advertising. To meet the ever-changing visual aesthetic needs of users, it is necessary to use mobile media technology to innovate the visual image of print advertisements and provide consumers with a unique visual experience. Therefore, this paper will study the design and production of print advertisement visual image based on mobile media. This paper takes the design process of mobile media as the research process and summarizes the visual image design method of print advertising that meets the needs of users, conforms to the development of the times and aesthetic trends, and has high cultural information dissemination efficiency. It then tests the proposed theoretical method through the comparison of works and finally realizes the second leap of design theory. Experiments show that the visual image of mobile media advertising is more in line with consumers’ aesthetics and can increase product sales. The highest sales of its products increased by 9.26% compared with ordinary products.

Decision Tree Algorithm for Visual Art Design in a Psychotherapy System for College Students.

With the development of society, psychological health becomes a basic standard for a college student to grow into a qualified person. This study is aimed at using data mining principles and methods to excavate the factors that lead to psychological problems of college students, to purposefully carry out psychological interventions, use visual art design methods to promote college students' psychological health treatment, and build a perfect system of college students' psychological treatment. Based on the theories of data mining, we built a data analysis model, elaborated the data preprocessing method, and applied the Apriori algorithm to analyze the data of obsessive-compulsive symptoms and interpersonal sensitivity symptoms, and various psychological problem attributes extracted the strong association rules and analyzed the results. Take advantage of the corresponding unique school environment and educational advantages, to build a set of mental health education methods suitable for modern college students, and truly enable them to obtain satisfactory psychological interventions in a reasonable art design treatment phase. Based on the above association pattern mining results, a series of preprocessing operations were performed on the data, and then, the Apriori algorithm was applied to discover the potential association relationships among 9 psychological dimension factors of college students, and then, the ID3 decision tree algorithm was used to construct a decision tree and pruning process, from which the classification rules of students' psychological problems were analyzed and discovered. These studies provide some practical reference basis for school counseling work.

Illustration Art Based on Visual Communication in Digital Context

With the rapid advancement of digital media technology in recent years, a digital context has emerged and developed under its influence. Visual communication relies heavily on illustration art. It is widely used in many fields of modern design because it is an important form of visual communication. We propose a visual communication design method for small and weak target images based on temporal and spatial filtering. We calculate the probability of gray pixels appearing using the histogram equalization method, assign thresholds to pixels, and enhance the gray value of images using the equalization process. We analyze the characteristics of each element of the 3D video system and the appropriate visual communication design form after performing calculations and combining them with the basic theory of visual communication design. Create system test links, test indicators, and test results. It has been demonstrated that the restored image integrity of the system is higher than that of the existing system, and that its performance is better.

Design and Reconstruction of Visual Art Based on Virtual Reality

Because traditional methods generally lack the image preprocessing link, the effect of visual image detail processing is not good. In order to enhance the image visual effect, a visual art design method based on virtual reality is proposed. Wavelet transform method is used to denoise the visual image and the noise signal in the image is removed; a binary model of fuzzy space vision fusion is established, the space of the visual image is planned, and the spatial distribution information of the visual image is obtained. According to the principle of light and shadow phenomenon in visual image rendering, the Extend Shadow map algorithm is used to render the visual image. Virtual reality technology was used to reconstruct the preprocessed visual image, and the ant colony algorithm was used to optimize the visual image to realize the visual image design. The results show that the peak signal-to-noise ratio of the visual image processed by the proposed method is high, and the image detail processing effect is better.

Exploring the Role of Visual Design in Digital Public Health Safety Education.

In this research, the positive role of interface visual design in digital safety education was verified taking COVID-19 prevention and control knowledge as the content of public health safety education, where interface emotion (positive, negative, and neutral) and interface layout (waterfall typed and juxtaposition typed) were regarded as independent variables, and readers’ understanding, course evaluation and system usability score were dependent variables. As revealed in the results of a 3 × 2 two-factor experiment in which 252 college students participated: first, different interface emotion can cause significantly different understanding, where negative emotion has the best learning transfer effect; second, due to the difference in interface emotion, participants may give certain courses significantly different evaluation scores, while positive emotional interface contributes to the obviously high scores of three course-evaluation items, “appeal of the lesson”, “enjoyment of the lesson” and “interface quality”; third, significantly different system usability can be caused by different interface layout, where waterfall-type layout enjoys higher appraisal from users; fourth, interface emotion and interface layout have a similar interactive effects in terms of “effort of the lesson” and “interface quality”, where waterfall-type layout is favored in terms of positive emotional interface, and juxtaposition-type layout is more advantageous in terms of negative emotional interface. These results are of vital significance for interface design and safety education. Further, the visual design method for interface emotion and interface layout were analyzed to determine the most suitable design principles so as to improve the effect of digital public health safety education and provide constructive ideas for fighting against COVID-19 at the educational level.

Multi-objective visual design method of control system for synchronous motor drives

Design of current controller for synchronous motor drive system can hardly achieve the desired time- and frequency-domain specifications simultaneously, therefore a multi-objective visual design method is proposed. D-partition technique, which is suitable for nonlinear system, is applied to obtain the controller parameters stable region. In order to improve the stability and dynamic property of synchronous motor drives, frequency-domain specifications such as gain margin and phase margin, time-domain specifications such as overshoot and settling time are considered. Firstly, these specifications are analyzed using three-dimensional (3D) visualization technique. The 3D graphs of gain margin, phase margin, overshoot and settling time changing with controller parameters in the stable region are plotted, respectively. Furthermore, to meet the desired requirements, a multi-objective visual design method is proposed and an optimization region is obtained, which shows the relationship between the desired requirements and the controller parameters. Finally, optimal controller parameters can be derived from the optimization region which meet the requirements of practical engineering. The design process is intuitive and clear, meanwhile time- and frequency-domain specifications can be achieved simultaneously without trial-and-error. Simulation and experimental results verify the proposed method of effective and practical.

Video Mapping for Sea Turtle Preservation Education Campaign

This study aims to produce video mapping design concept to educate the topic on sea turtle conservation for all levels of Indonesian societies, especially in the Jakarta Aquarium recreation facilities. Indonesia, a tropical country with variety of natural resources and habitat of the endangered sea turtles required a protection on their habitat by the government. There are 6 types of sea turtles spread across the vast 138 different waters in Indonesia. Efforts of preservation as part of the world's ecosystem need to be done by various parties. The Visual Communication Design, as a major whom proficient in the perceptive communication language has a big role in delivering the message and exploring media for public education about the importance of maintaining the balance of the turtle ecosystem. Video mapping or projection art, is a contemporary technique of delivering information through visual images using lighting and projection so as to produce optical illusions on the object being directed. Through visual communication design method, the result is a video mapping design concept to display a provoking animation meant to visualize the grueling condition and survivability of sea turtles in recent years and to gain awareness for preserving and protecting the natural environment. The video mapping design concept can be used for environmental issues learning materials for youth.

The role of visual communication design to increase public literacy on the history of Spice Route in supporting Indonesia’s proposal toward UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage

Previous studies show that the process of reproduction of nationalism through the reconstruction of national history and national identity is no longer always the elite’s initiation. Democratization and globalization also provide space for people to re-interpret the ideal picture of Indonesia. The learning tradition of contemporary society in general is an interesting fundamental issue. Global connectivity and the advancement of information technology have also created new habits in acquiring knowledge. As a result, contemporary society is increasingly ignorant of history and alienated from its cultural roots. This research intends to examine the extent to which visual communication design can increase public literacy, especially about the state efforts in reconstructing national history and Indonesian identity through the cultural-historical narrative of Spice Route. In line with President Joko Widodo’s vision to position Indonesia as the global maritime fulcrum in 2045, the legacy of the spice trade route, which is also an intercultural exchange route, will be proposed by the government of Indonesia as a World Cultural Heritage to UNESCO. The methods used in this qualitative study are auto-ethnography, participant-observation, in-depth interviews, and visual communication design methods through analysis of form-content-context, both descriptive and reflective. Through the findings, visual communication design has great potentials in increasing public knowledge on Spice Route narrative, especially in encouraging curiosity and willingness to learn more about Indonesian history and cultures.

Research on Visual Art Design Method Based on Virtual Reality

In today's society, computer technology has been deeply rooted in the hearts of people. Computers are wonderful tools for creative thinking. It is an extension of our visual function and the function of the visual cortex of the brain. Through this extension, we can see more scenes that we could not see before. As a computer simulation system that creates and feels virtual worlds, 3D digital virtual reality technology uses a computer as a media simulation or a real or imaginary scene. It is a system simulation of interactive 3D dynamic vision and entity behavior based on diversified information fusion. As the creator of visual arts, we must try to observe the world at a deeper level and establish a model that resonates with the viewer. At every level, our technology will convey the way we view the world more deeply. We will be more amazed at the richness of the real world. This chapter explores a visual art design method based on virtual reality.

Issues of the Preservation and Conservation of the Petroglyph in the Khoid Tsenkher Cave

The Khoid Tsenkher Cave is located 28 km away from the center of Mankhan soum, Khovd province in Mongolia. The cave contains about 40,000-year-old petroglyphs. A variety of animals were depicted on the surface of the rocks, such as ostriches, camels, lions, elephants, and buffaloes in red and light brown paints. These images prove the existence of the animals that became extinct a long time ago. These petroglyphs play an important role in the research of the history and culture of the Paleolithic period of the world due to its visual content and design methods. Unfortunately, 64 images and symbols were faded and became unknown due to the wrong action of the people and new carvings have been created on them. The cave is visited by about 5,000 international and domestic tourists a year, but they cannot actually see the main attraction and do not have the chance to understand its great value. Therefore, there is an opportunity to develop tourism by involving local people in the preservation and conservation process of the cave and its historical and cultural monuments.

Research on the Visual Design of Data Charts Based on the COVID-19 Epidemic

Purpose The sudden outbreak of the novel coronavirus has caused varying degrees of damage to China and the world. In today’s era of information explosion, data and information are the driving force for decision-making. The improvement of medical treatment and public health systems is the most fundamental, but what a citizen needs is an intuitive and clear “seeing” the development of the epidemic. The correct trend, an accurate view and understanding of the epidemic requires us to use visual design methods to present it to the public, which is helpful to establish a correct understanding of the psychological construction of anti-epidemic at the social level.

Visual Design of Riau Malay Songket Weaving Motif Application (Case Study of Riau Malay Siak Songket Fabric Motif)

This scientific work aims to compile a visual application of information about the Riau Malay Songket Weaving Motif, especially in the Siak area. By using the Visual Communication design method with visual application design on the device with the source of library materials, interviews, and questionnaires conducted on the community in the city of Pekanbaru, men and women aged 20-25 years. The result of the research is a visual design of the Riau Malay Songket Weaving Motif application on the Siak Malay Motif as a case study because there are so many types. Songket Siak fabrics have various motifs, colors, and meanings. The general public prefers the Malay Siak songket cloth from its beauty alone, the philosophical content that is very valuable on the Songket cloth is not much seen. Existing media information also discusses more in terms of the beauty of motifs and colors, less media contains information about the meaning of the Riau Malay Songket cloth, especially Songket Siak. The meaning of the Siak Malay Songket cloth as part of the identity of the Riau Malay community does not need to be known. By looking at the philosophical meaning of the Siak Malay songket motif, it can add to the love of Riau Malay culture and increase the pride of being a Riau Malay community, especially for the younger generation. It is hoped that the availability of this application can add information about the Riau Malay songket weaving motif, especially the Siak Malay Songket Motif for the younger generation.
