In the present market scenario, inflation has become a permanent feature of economy throughout the world. In this paper we have proposed an inventory system of deteriorating items with time varying holding cost under inflationary environment. Most of the inventory faces the problem of deterioration which decreases the total profit. To control the rate of deterioration preservation technology techniques is used. In the proposed inventory model demand is ramp type and shortages are allowed and partially backlogged with constant backlogging rate. Due to ramp type demand, this inventory system is divided into two inventory models. Both inventory models have been solved by using distinct numerical examples. Also the concavity of the objective function for each model has been shown. Finally, the sensitivity analysis is also performed for different parameters to find some useful observation.

Effect of Inflation and Variable Holding Cost on Life Time Inventory Model with Multi Variable Demand and Lost Sales

This paper analyses an inventory model for life time declining item with variable carrying rate and multi variable demand rate. In this model, the consumption rate depending on selling price as well as displayed stock and when the shortage occurs only on selling price of the manufactured article. Moreover, in this model the deterioration is taken time dependent, which is non-instantaneous in nature. In this study we also consider a very realistic concept of variable carrying rate in which the carrying rate per unit per period to be a function of the time used up in storage. This model is firm for minimizing the average total rate per unit period under the effect of inflation and time value of money. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the wished-for model and a sensitivity analysis is passed out to study the effect of different constraints.

EOQ and EPQ Production-Inventory Models with Variable Holding Cost: State-of-the-Art Review

In production-inventory control, economic order quantity (EOQ) and economic production quantity (EPQ) models are used to determine the optimal order quantities for purchasing and manufacturing. Most EOQ and EPQ models are constructed assuming constant costs. Recently, however, EOQ/EPQ models assuming varying costs (i.e., holding, ordering, and purchasing costs) have been receiving considerable attention. The objective of this paper is to review and classify EOQ and EPQ inventory models formulated under the assumption of variable holding costs. The relevant papers are reviewed and classified into three main types: time-dependent holding cost, stock-dependent holding cost, and multiple dependence or other holding cost variability. Additional classification is proposed for the reviewed models according to their objectives, solution methods, and applications. The paper identifies research trends and includes several suggestions for future research directions.

Probabilistic Mixture Shortage Multi-Source Inventory Model with Varying Holding Cost Under Constraint

This paper proposed a general probabilistic continuous review multi-item, multi-source inventory model with constraint for crisp and fuzzy environment. This constraint on the expected varying holding cost. The demand is a continuous random variable, the distribution of the lead time demand is known and the holding cost is varying. This model is formulated to analyze how the firm can deduce the optimal order quantity and the optimal reorder point for the item and source to reach the main goal of minimizing the expected total cost using a Lagrange multiplier technique. The lead time demand is follow some continuous distributions. Also, an application with real data is analyzed and the goal of minimization the expected total cost is achieved.

A Pharmaceutical Inventory Model for Variable Demand and Variable Holding Cost with Partially Backlogged Under Permissible Delay in Payments in Healthcare Industries

This paper presents a pharmaceutical inventory model for deteriorating items with quadratic demand and linear holding cost under permissible delay in payments. The pharmaceutical Inventory is discussed under two cases: (i) the permissible period is less than or equal to replenishment cycle (ii) the permissible period is greater than replenishment cycle. During the permissible period, both pharmaceutical company and the hospital got some benefits. Shortages are allowed and are partially backlogged. This model solved analytically by reducing the total inventory cost. The results are explained with numerical examples and sensitivity analysis.

An EOQ Model for Deteriorating Items with Power Demand and Time – Varying Holding Cost

In this paper, we consider deterministic inventory model with power demand and constant deteriorating in considered. The time - varying holding cost is al linear function of time. Shortage are allowed and fully backlogged. The items (like food grains, fashion apparels and electronic equipments) have fixed shelf- life which decreases with time during the end of the season. Using the differential equations the instantaneous state of inventory is derived. With suitable cost considerations the total cost function is obtained. By minimizing the total cost function the optimal ordering policies are derived. A numerical illustration is presented to demonstrate the model and the sensitivity analysis of various parameters is carried out.

Production and Inventory Planning with Variable Holding Cost and All-Units Quantity Discounts

A new production-inventory planning model is considered, in which the holding cost is variable and the purchase cost is subject to quantity discounts. The new production-inventory planning model has three important and realistic features. First, the production rate is finite, so the whole order is not received in one instant, but is gradually produced. Second, the unit holding cost of each item per time period is not constant throughout the entire storage duration, but it increases with longer storage times. Third, the unit purchase cost of each item is not constant, but it decreases with larger orders according to an all-units quantity discount structure. Considering these features, mathematical formulations and optimum solution procedures are developed for two types of holding costs functions of storage time: retroactive increase, and incremental increase.

Inventory Model for Decaying Items with Multivariate Demand and Variable Holding Cost under the Facility of Trade-Credit

study, an inventory model for deteriorating items with multivariate demand and variable holding cost is developed. The facility of allowable delay in payment is also taken into consideration. During this period retailer can use the ensued money from sales of the supplied goods to earn interest. Demand rate is a function of on hand inventory and selling price of the item and it is considered that the stock affects the demand rate up to an assured time. Therefore, retailer will order more quantity to stimulate demand rate and to earn more money. Different cases of allowable delay in payment are discussed. The objective of this study is to maximize the retailer's total profit per unit time. Production-inventory system with finite production rate, stock-dependent demand, and variable holding cost

In general, traditional production-inventory systems are based on a number of simplifying – but somewhat unrealistic – assumptions, including constant demand rate, constant holding cost, and instantaneous order replenishment. These assumptions have been individually challenged in numerous variations of production-inventory models. Finite production rate models, such as economic production quantity (EPQ) systems consider gradual order replenishment. Stock-dependent demand models assume the demand rate to be an elastic function of the inventory level. Variable holding cost models assume the holding cost per unit per time period to be a function of the time spent in storage. In this paper, the three simplifying assumptions are simultaneously relaxed in a new production-inventory system with a finite production rate, stock-level dependent demand rate, and variable holding cost. Mathematical models and optimum solution procedures, including nonlinear programming, are presented for two functional forms of holding cost variability. The main contribution of this paper is the formulation and solution of a new production-inventory model that more closely represents real-world situations. The realistic assumptions and efficient solution algorithms should make the model practical and useful for industrial applications.

Time and Price Dependent Demand with Varying Holding Cost Inventory Model for Deteriorating Items

This paper presents an inventory model considering the demand as a parametric dependent linear function of time and price both. The coefficient of time-parameter and coefficient of price-parameter are examined simultaneously and proved that time is dominating variable over price in terms of earning more profit. It is also proved that deterioration of item in the inventory is one of the most sensitive parameter to look into besides many others. The robustness of the suggested model is examined using variations in the input parameters and ranges are specified on which the model is robust on most of occasions and profit is optimal. Two kinds of doubly-demand function strategies are examined and mutually compared in view of the two different cases. Second strategy found better than first. Holding cost is treated as a variable. Theoretical results are supported by numerical based simulation study with robustness. Some recommendations are given at the end for the inventory managers and also open problems are discussed for researchers. This model is more realistic than considered by earlier author.

EOQ Models with Varying Holding Cost

Models of inventory management contain different parameters. An issue is observable in the classical models which can be related to the determination of the quantity of the economic order and the quantity of the economic production. In these models, the parameters like setup and holding costs and also the rate of demands are fixed. This matter causes the quantity of the economic ordering in classic model to have some differences in comparison with the real-world conditions. It should be stated that holding cost of spoiled and useless products is not always fixed and so the costs increase by passing the time. This paper is an attempt to develop classical EOQ models by considering holding cost as an increasing function of the ordering cycle length. So the classical EOQ models are developed, and the related optimum quantity to the ordering cycle length, economic ordering quantity, and the optimum total cost are determined.
