Use of bim technology in transport infrastructure projects

This paper describes the possibilities of using BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology based on object modeling in transport infrastructure projects. The main focus was on investments such as roads and railways. The objectives of implementing this technology were presented and its benefits for participants of the construction process were discussed. The basic principles, norms and documents related to the BIM methodology have been outlined. Then it was described at what stage the introduction of this technology is on the Polish market. Finally, examples of "implementation" projects currently implemented by the main managers of the rail and road network in Poland, ie PKP PLK and GDDKiA, were shown. Use of BIM technology and impact on productivity in construction project management

Building information modelling is a illustration of the physical and functional characteristics of a technology which connects project information databases in every fields. Use of building information modelling technology represents one of the most progressive approach in construction project management. Construction project management is a difficult process depends on many factors. Human resources are one of them. Project results depends on productivity of human resources. There are some questions about productivity of employees and managers. Productivity of employees depends on many processes and factors. Progressive technology can be one of them. BIM technology presents probably affective tool for productivity. This research discussed issue of use of BIM technology and analyses BIM effect on productivity in construction project management. Main aim of research was set like analyze of use BIM technology in construction industry and effect of this on productivity.

The Application of building information management platform in prefabricated building production stage

By studying and analysing the application status of information management platform in prefabricated building production phase, the paper summarizes the management and quality problems of prefabricated building components in the production phase, puts forward the use of BIM technology to simulate the production of components in the prefabricated production chain, and Uses the information platform to supervise the production process of components. Based on the problems of prefabricated buildings in the production stage and the characteristics of BIM information platform, this paper analyses that the construction information management platform can bring benefits to participants of prefabricated buildings in the production stage.

A SWOT Analysis of the Use of BIM Technology in the Polish Construction Industry

The present paper presents a SWOT analysis, the aim of which is to evaluate the strategic implementation of BIM technology in the construction industry in Poland. The authors created a SWOT matrix presenting strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks associated with the use of BIM. Using literature analyses, own experience, and market reports, all elements of the SWOT matrix are described in detail. Basic indicators characterizing the strategic position of BIM on the Polish construction market are calculated. Finally, the matrix of strategic tasks and actions that should be applied in order to promote and develop BIM in Poland are defined.

Application of BIM Technology in Construction Engineering

The development of the construction industry has benefited from the ever-increasing demands of people for living conditions, both safe and comfortable. In order to complete the quality and quantity of the house, new technologies are continuously developed and used, such as the current BIM technology, which can be used well throughout the life cycle of the construction. This paper mainly analyses the use of BIM technology in construction engineering and explains the benefits of BIM technology in all walks of life.

Legal protection of BIM products

Science and technology are developing faster than intellectual property legislation. As a result, previously unknown products of intellectual activity are regulated by general rules. These objects are BIM products. The use of BIM technology in the construction industry involves creation of a three-dimensional model filled with architectural, design, technological, economic and other data about a building considered as a single object. The BIM product may include several intellectual property objects regulated by different laws (e.g., databases and design inventions, know-how, etc.). The legislation of the Russian Federation does not define the concept “BIM products”. There are no integrated objects taking into account its features. It is not possible to apply Article 1240 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation to the BIM products. The list of intellectual property objects is limited. It is necessary to include BIM products into Article 1240 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation.

Refurbishment of UK school buildings: Challenges of improving energy performance using BIM

UK Schools are part of the existing buildings whose operational carbon must be reduced to meet the government target of reducing carbon emissions to 80% by 2050. State funding for refurbishment is the most feasible option using two routes: Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) which is restricted to improving the physical aspects of school facilities; and Salix Energy Efficiency Fund (SEEF) aimed at energy/equipment retrofit measures. Although the use of BIM technology (underpinned by the government soft-landing (GSL) framework) together with the use of energy modelling/simulation tools have become integral to making buildings more energy efficient, they are constrained by lack of adoption. This study used primary and secondary data to investigate the effectiveness of contemporary BIM and energy simulation technologies in refurbishment of existing school buildings. Secondary data collected from 10 case studies of schools that benefitted from SEEF was supported by primary data from survey questionnaire of 126 professionals involved in refurbishment. Results showed that: (a) CIF and SEEF ought to operate in synergy due to the interaction of a building’s physical envelope with heat transfer and energy used by equipment and systems; (b) refurbishment professionals are not fully adopting BIM which in turn affects managing the buildings in their operational phase; and (c) some schools are not getting technical advice on how to optimise the funds they receive from SEEF leading to non-optimal investment. Recommendations provided include: extensive training on BIM and GSL to heads of schools; upskilling of professionals on using building pathology techniques that are compatible with BIM together with COBie and NBS Toolkit; advise government agencies to reconcile the purpose of CIF and SEEF for carbon reduction solution in schools.

Practical Aspects of the Use BIM Technology for Existing Buildings

In the analysis process enabling the renovation of existing facilities, the use of BIM technology becomes more and more common. It results from the increasingly widespread dissemination of IT solutions, which can be successfully used in situations where it is necessary to implement new concepts of using objects, but also when it is necessary to quickly adapt the structure to different load conditions. At the time of making the decision to implement the reconstruction of buildings, it may turn out that the use of BIM technology to create a full digital model will be one of the better-used investment funds in correlation with the effect of final solutions. In the work, research was undertaken to determine in which types of objects measurable effects can be obtained from the use of new technology. This is extremely important when making the decision about the need to incur additional expenses to perform the necessary macroscopic research and sometimes outlets of the existing structure in a manner adequate to the possibility of later use in the process of creating a numerical model. A different issue is the undoubted usefulness in obtaining new opportunities when used for historic buildings, whose period of use should practically be unlimited. The article will specify the possibilities of using BIM in the processes of building identification and construction structures, as well as the necessary data to be obtained during the preparatory works. Model solutions will be discussed, enabling the use of multi-criteria analysis of the selection of the most optimal solutions during the renovation process. Performing the above work by building a numerical model of the facility allows at each stage of verification by authorized persons inventoried solutions and enables tracking and changes in the situation of identified exceptions in relation to parameters determined at the initial stage. The work will be summarized by the results of the conducted analyzes with an indication of the utilitarian aspects of the completed research.

In recent years, the construction project cost science has been applied to BIM technology to raise the level ofproject management work. It not only effectively solves the problem of building project cost management, but also has a relative lack of improvement in the management process between management project investment costs and project prices. To achieve effective control of project cost methods and improve the construction project management system. The use of BIM technology to strengthen the construction project management, the control of construction project consumption as the main line of management, promote the development of project cost management, thereby increasing the use of construction materials and reduce waste, play a role in cost management, and promote the company's expected goal. The aim of the article is to present the possibilities of using BIM in the work of supervision inspector. In the article were analyzed the activities that must performed supervision inspector. Activities are summarized based on studies of contractual clauses in the tender procedures for the investor’s supervision service. Identified activities are divided into those that do not require a support of BIM technology and those in which this assistance is possible to use and can bring quantifiable benefits. Then were presented possibilities and potential benefits of supporting selected activities with use of BIM technology.

The Use of BIM Technology in the Process of Analyzing the Increased Effort of Structural Elements

The use of BIM technology in the implementation of new buildings has been successful, in recent years becoming an essential tool for facilitating the process of design, implementation and use. Improving solutions and developing new models allows effective control of the process of erecting buildings using BIM and allows for elimination of sensitive processes. Some disadvantages might be evident in instances where existing facilities, built without the use of recent advancements in this field, need to be either rebuilt or refurbished.An analysis was conducted to find the suitability of BIM technology in relation to an existing building where downforce was needed be applied due to change of process and the need for installation of a new condenser in a roof space where weight was about 1.5 times higher than in the original equipment.

Integration of Agents in the Construction of a Single-family House through Use of BIM Technology

The tools and work methodologies currently employed in the construction industry do not allow evolution to face up to market demands. There being, in addition, less time for project planning for which more detailed specifications are required and which strive for productive efficiency. In light of this, the development and application of production methods that favour multidisciplinary, integrated and collaborative work between the agents that compose the construction process is essential.BIM, Building Information Modelling, technology arises as an answer to the need to integrate all the agents that participate in the process during the different phases of the work. In the present article, a comparative study is carried out between two methods of construction project planning for the real case of a single-family house. This is done by means of the traditional process using computer aided representation, CAD, and a hypothetical integrated process of project planning supported using BIM.Thus, conclusions are extracted about the introduction of this technology, reflecting on the experience had. At the same time, recommendations are made for working with this methodology and possible future lines of action.

Becoming construction projects larger and more complicated, and utilizing more varied and complex contracting and delivery systems in the industry, integrating information and managing constructability from project inception to completion became the most critical tasks for the successful project management. However, current industry practices of constructability analysis which are too much dependent on field engineers and managers` experiences, are not performed efficiently and also not managed effectively. Then the scope, method, and procedure in performing analysis tasks are not certain as well as not systematic, In addition, due to using 2D based drawings and documents, information required at project phases for the analysis is inconsistent and inaccurate. This study aims to suggest the use of BIM technology and functions for solving various problems of current constructability practices. In particular, constructability analysis tasks performed at design and construction stages are identified and their adaptability, applicability, and benefits of BIM are investigated through interviews on constructability and BIM professionals in the industry.
