A Translation Study of the Meaning and Aesthetics of Drama Subtitles of When We Were Young (人不彪悍枉少年) as Literary Works on WeTV Channel Indonesia: A Review of Literary Translation Theory

This study aims to analyze the translation of the meaning and aesthetics of the subtitles of the drama When We Were Young (人不彪悍枉少年) aired on the YouTube channel WeTV Indonesia, as well as discuss the translation of this drama as a literary work. The main focus of this study is to understand how the translator overcame linguistic and cultural challenges in translating the dialog-drama which is full of Chinese idioms and cultural expressions into Indonesian. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design to analyze the subtitle texts. The data used are purposively selected drama subtitles from several episodes that contain idiomatic and metaphorical elements. Literary translation theories, such as equivalence theory by Nida (1964), domestication vs. foreignization theory by Venuti (1995), and audiovisual translation theory by Gottlieb (1994), are applied in this analysis to explore how translators balance between fidelity to the source text and the limitations of subtitle space. The study found that translators often adopt a domestication approach to ease the understanding of Indonesian audiences, while still trying to maintain the original aesthetics and cultural nuances of the source text. The findings make an important contribution to the study of literary translation, especially in the context of audiovisual translation which requires attention to linguistic and cultural aspects simultaneously.

The present paper aims at highlighting and promoting the importance of two main elements in the evolution of drama or animation theatre performances as well as in cinema productions that insure appropriate audience understanding: emotion, the expression of the character’s inner feelings through the actor, and precision, reflected in a series of stage rules. Offering in the beginning a number of professional views on the characteristics of interpretation in the above artistic domains, with a focus on theatre performances, the paper approaches next a 2020 production at Luceafărul Theatre of Ia?i, The Magic Land, in an attempt to point out its grounding on the two elements. The performance in title was not a random choice: its evolution on stage was closely followed from within, as a direct participant in its "making", while its abundance in complex choreographic moments provided a rich source for debate on the necessity of precision and emotional involvement.

On Cultural Default and Translation Compensation Strategies in The Middle from the Perspective of Relevance Theory

This paper, based on Relevance Theory, analyzes the phenomenon of cultural default present in the situational comedy The Middle. By dissecting the cultural elements within the show, it reveals how the cultural information in the original work affects audience comprehension. To address these cultural deficiencies, various compensation strategies are proposed, which not only preserve the humor effect and emotional depth of the original but also effectively bridge the cultural cognitive gaps for the target language audience, thereby enhancing the acceptability and viewing experience of the translated work. Ultimately, the study concludes that appropriate compensation techniques can promote cross-cultural communication and deepen audience understanding and resonance with the work.

Zines as artistic tools in harm reduction: bridging subjective experience and scientific knowledge

Since the early days of the fight against HIV, zines have appeared to play a dual role: they encourage affected communities to voice their experiences and facilitate the exchange of information between researchers, professionals, and the individuals concerned, particularly drug users. However, few studies have examined the role of zines as a harm reduction tool within public health. This commentary draws on a two-year ethnographic study of a zine project designed for people facing drug-related challenges and vulnerabilities, such as social precarity and mental health issues. We identified various forms of engagement with the zine project, based on three key aspects. First, the zine elevates a plurality of voices, whether from the spheres of research, peer-based networks, healthcare professionals, or the streets and social precariousness. Second, the zine operates within a broader network of associations, fostering connections between local social action structures. Lastly, while the zine primarily addresses drug-related issues, it also opens space for broader topics such as precarity, gender, and migration. This thematic transversality stems from a desire to grasp the complexity of social factors that shape individual life trajectories.The production of a zine, envisioned as a platform for expression and the promotion of an alternative subculture, promotes the participation of those most distanced from care and among the most vulnerable populations. The peer-driven collaboration throughout the zine’s creation also enables the stakeholders involved (editorial team, contributors, readers, etc.) to contribute to the emergence of diverse forms of knowledge, fostering a new understanding of reality and bridging audiences that would otherwise rarely intersect.

True Crime Adaptations and How the Public Surveils

True crime adaptations have become increasingly popular in the past few decades, but their existence reaches back several centuries. They have taken many forms, including stage dramas, graphic novels, and true crime podcasts. Examples of these adaptations— particularly the play Arden of Faversham, the graphic novel From Hell, and modern true crime podcasts—illustrate the selective process used to create true crime adaptations. That process chooses to foreground certain aspects of crimes while others are left behind, which changes audience understandings of the crime. By understanding the nuances of these adaptations, the potential effects they create in audience perceptions become clear. I argue that, because of interactions between the crime, adapter, and audience, true-crime adaptations change the audience’s understandings of wrongdoings and affect behaviors surrounding them including fear of crime, investigations, and punishments.

Best practice recommendations for constructing educative and persuasive health and nutrition messages: a rapid review

Globally and in Australia, diets low in vegetables, legumes and minimally processed core foods and high in ultra-processed foods are widespread and shown to be harmful to human and planetary health(1). Research suggests that important aspects of nutrition knowledge, such as the concept of ultra-processed foods, are not widely understood by adults, hampering public health efforts at improving diet quality(2). The World Health Organization recommends sequential health communication strategies that start with awareness raising as an important first step to promote healthy behaviours(3). Therefore, the aim of this rapid review was to identify best practice recommendations for the development of persuasive and educative health and nutrition messages for awareness raising among adults. A secondary aim was to identify best practice recommendations for features of persuasive and educative messages. Four academic databases were searched in June 2024. Websites of Australian and international health organisations were searched in April-July 2024 to identify relevant grey literature. Review articles that provided evidence or recommendations for developing persuasive health or nutrition messaging for awareness raising and grey literature that proposed communication strategies or frameworks, published after 2010 were eligible for inclusion. Twenty-seven reviews and four grey literature reports were included, of which 24 reviews and four reports focused on general health messaging and five reviews were specific to nutrition. Results reveal strong support in the literature for audience segmentation and tailoring of messages to the target audience. Ongoing formative research is also consistently recommended, including research to inform audience segments, message content, testing of messages with stakeholders and consumers and refinement of messages based on feedback. Dissemination of messages in mass media channels, including traditional and social media, and use of multiple channels for message repetition is considered best practice for awareness raising messaging. Additionally, dissemination of messages through well-known, credible and trusted messengers who are relevant to the target audience was consistently recommended. There were mixed findings on whether loss or gain framed messaging should be used, and to address this, use of a combination of both framings was recommended. Communicating the gist or bottom line of information, rather than overly precise didactic facts, was advised to improve audience understanding and message acceptance. Furthermore, narrative messaging was recommended over didactic messaging because it is more engaging and preferred by audiences. Finally, health and nutrition messages that are concise, simple and constructed with plain language are considered best practice. This review provides a practical synthesis of best practice recommendations for health and nutrition messaging for use in academic research and real-world health and nutrition promotion settings. Findings can be used to inform the translation of dietary recommendations into persuasive messages, in accordance with priority work to advance the Decadal Plan for the Science of Nutrition(4).

SIMBOLISME SERANGGA SEBAGAI REPRESENTASI ANCAMAN EKSISTENSIAL DALAM SERIAL NETFLIX “3 BODY PROBLEM”

This study analyzes the use of insect symbolism in the Netflix series 3 Body Problems, which is adapted from a novel by Liu Cixin. In the series, insects are used as symbols with deep meaning, representing themes of resilience, existence, and interspecies interaction. Using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach, this study aims to explore the denotative and connotative meanings of insect symbols and how these symbols convey social and philosophical messages to the audience. Through the analysis of several scenes featuring insects, the research shows that the symbol not only functions as a visual element, but also as a means to reflect on social issues such as injustice, existential threat, and environmental crisis. The research findings reveal that insects in 3 Body Problems function as a metaphor for human resilience in the face of great challenges, as well as a symbol of Tricolaris' pessimistic view of humanity. This research provides insights into how symbolism in media can enrich the audience's understanding of social issues and influence the way they view the world.

PSIKOLOGI KOMUNIKASI DALAM PENYAMPAIAN INFORMASI KESEHATAN MELALUI PERSPEKTIF PENDIDIKAN BAHASA ARAB

Effective health communication is essential in improving people's understanding of health issues, especially in Arabic-speaking communities. This study aims to analyse the application of communication psychology in delivering health information through Arabic as well as how Arabic language education can influence the effectiveness of health communication. Using a qualitative approach, this study used literature analysis and in-depth interviews with health practitioners and Arabic language educators to explore the psychological factors that influence health communication. The study found that psychological principles of communication, such as empathy, perception management, and persuasion, were instrumental in improving audience understanding of the health messages conveyed. In addition, the values embodied in Arabic education, such as communication ethics, the use of clear and understandable language, and cultural considerations, make an important contribution in building an effective relationship between the messenger and the audience. However, challenges faced in Arabic health communication include dialectal differences, cultural barriers, and low health literacy in some communities. This study suggests the need for a more contextualised and value-based approach in Arabic language education to improve the effectiveness of health communication. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of health communication strategies that are more effective and suited to the needs of Arabic-speaking communities.

ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT OF PARENTS AND TEACHERS AS AN EFFORT TO PREVENT BULLYING OF CHILDREN IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Introduction: Bullying is still a critical problem in Indonesia, especially in schools, where many unreported cases are also found, which then have a broad impact on children's welfare. Therefore, this community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of the target audience regarding bullying incidents in children and prevent bullying from occurring early on. Methods: This community service utilized a participatory approach at Selolembu State Elementary School, Bondowoso (June–August 2023), involving school staff, parents, and students to prevent bullying. The stages included initial observations, problem mapping, participatory assistance via focus group discussions, workshops on bullying prevention and parenting, establishing anti-bullying student cadres, and ongoing evaluations to measure the program's effectiveness. Results: Parents and teachers are critical in preventing bullying at school. Teachers play a role in increasing awareness, providing character education, and monitoring the school environment to prevent bullying incidents. They also participate in the development of anti-bullying policies and reporting systems. Parents play an active role in monitoring children's behaviour at home, especially regarding the use of technology, as well as being involved in school activities and policy-making. Collaboration between teachers and parents is essential to create a school environment that is safe and free from bullying. Conclusion: The conclusion from the implementation of this activity is the need to monitor and strengthen the commitments set by the target audience so that program sustainability can be maintained.

Application of the LDA model to identify topics in telemedicine conversations on the X social network

The evolution experienced by global society, in the post-COVID 19 era, is marked by the quite obligatory use of digital media in many sectors, as is the case for the health sector. Quite frequently, both patients and health professionals use social media to express their telemedicine concerns or interests. The present research focuses on these social media comments as they represent a very interesting data source for researchers. In the present analysis, we focus on unstructured tweet texts written by Internet users and apply both machine learning and the Latent Dirichlet Allocation algorithm to model X databases and identify tweet topics. The results gathered provide professionals with information on the most important issues and factors of influence for telemedecine consumers.BackgroundThe use of new technologies has transformed society, affecting communication, information seeking and ways of working. Telemedicine, as a remote health practice through ICTs, has grown exponentially, especially after the pandemic.ObjectiveWe do apply a mixed methodology in our study and use both qualitative and quantitative techniques to explore the conversational topics generated about telemedicine through comments posted by users on X. This allows us to identify primary, secondary, and residual themes.MethodsNatural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning techniques, specifically the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model, were used to analyse 156,633 comments extracted from “X” related to telemedicine topics.ResultsThe study revealed several issues to be addressed. Data was collected using keywords such as "teleconsultation" and "telemedicine". We can see that the most frequent words in the comments include words such as "health", "service", "doctor" and "patient". The themes identified were grouped into four dimensions: general information, benefits sought, specific information and professional issues. The results showed that 60.1% of the comments focused on generic telemedicine topics, ease of use and service information. “X” queries were observed to be public and general in nature, focusing on benefits and accessibility, while disease or treatment specific topics were less frequent.ConclusionsThe results provide information for the proper development and study of telemedicine through social networks. “X” is a platform mainly used for general telemedicine queries, with convenience and accessibility as the main benefits mentioned. The results suggest that online telemedicine interactions are complex and offer valuable insights for improving telemedicine communication strategies. Future research could explore the use of hashtags and analyse differences in interaction patterns according to user profile, providing a deeper understanding of audiences' behaviour on social networks. These findings underline the importance of considering audience preferences to improve the effectiveness of telemedicine communications.

Analisis Penggunaan Wacana Persuasif Dalam Video Youtube Kampung Moderasi Beragama Desa Trubus, Bangka Tengah

This research will analyze persuasive discourse in YouTube videos of religious moderation in Trubus Village, Central Bangka using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. This research examines persuasive techniques based on Keraf's theory and language style based on J.S. Badudu. The analysis shows that the constructed persuasive techniques include rationalization, conformity, identification, and suggestion. However, the most dominant persuasive technique constructed is the rationalization persuasive technique. These techniques have a significant role to then build collective representations related to religious moderation and interfaith tolerance. Furthermore, the use of polysyndeton and asyndeton language styles emphasizes the narrative structure and strengthens the message to be conveyed. Therefore, this YouTube video is not only an information medium but can be a discursive hegemony tool that will direct the audience's understanding of the importance of tolerance values in a multicultural society. Thus, this research will also confirm that, in the midst of current globalization, the media can be a medium for producing and reproducing discourses which can then affect the social reality of society.

By applying Eugene Nida's Dynamic Equivalence approach, the translation seeks to balance fidelity to the source text with effective communication in the target language. This involves strategic choices, such as adding explanatory notes or cultural equivalents, to bridge the gap between the two cultures. The analysis explores specific challenges encountered during the translation process, such as rendering fictional magic-related terms and maintaining the narrative's moral depth. It examines the strategies employed to overcome these challenges and ensure that the Arabic translation captures the essence of the original story. Ultimately, a successful translation of "The Tale of the Three Brothers" into Arabic demonstrates the importance of cultural sensitivity, linguistic expertise, and a deep understanding of the target audience. By carefully considering these factors, translators can effectively convey the magic and moral lessons of the story to a new generation of readers.

Evaluating BMKG Public Information Services in Flood Disaster Areas Using ITO (Input-Throughput-Output) Model Approach

Public information services from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) play an important role in mitigating hydrometeorological disaster risks. This study analyzes the processes and factors that influence public information services at the Class I Radin Inten II Meteorology Station, especially in areas affected by flooding in Bandar Lampung City. With a qualitative descriptive approach, data were obtained through observation, interviews, and questionnaires involving 12 key informants and 41 respondents from the community. The results of the study indicate that although services have been digitized, the provision process is optimal, but regulations are needed as a legal umbrella for public service activities, and the need for audience understanding is still a challenge. These findings are the importance of optimizing communication strategies and collaboration with stakeholders to improve service effectiveness.

Historical Representation and Psychological Analysis in French Films

The purpose of this paper is to explore how French films reflect the social features and the depth of human nature in a particular historical period through the two artistic techniques of historical representation and psychological analysis. Firstly, the research results in related fields at home and abroad are reviewed, the theoretical basis of historical representation and psychological analysis in film is established, and the specific meanings of these two concepts are defined. Through the analysis of several representative French historical films, we examine which major historical events the directors chose as their Settings, and how they used narrative strategies and visual elements to create an authentic historical atmosphere. At the same time, we also pay attention to the psychological state of the characters in the film, that is, the shaping of the character's personality, the portrayal of the inner world and the personality traits in the social and cultural context, which have a profound impact on the audience's understanding and feeling of the film. Further, the paper explores the intersection between historical representation and psychological analysis, showing how the two interact to enhance the artistic effect of film. For example, a complex historical background can give a character a richer psychological level, and the psychological changes of the character can reflect or affect the development of the historical process. On this basis, we choose several classic cases for in-depth analysis, and compare the differences in the methods of different directors when dealing with the same subject.

Emoji Usage among Scholars in Messenger Group Interaction

This study explores the use of emojis and abbreviations in scholars’ daily communication regarding social media conversation, particularly focusing on their perceived professionalism and impact on users’ reputations. The objective is to assess how these digital communication features are viewed within academic contexts. To achieve this, the research employed archival and survey methods over 22 days, documenting 501 emoji usages across 113 interactions or posts by MPhil-PhD scholars. Data were collected through three closed-ended questions to evaluate participants’ attitudes and perceptions. Findings reveal that the beating heart emoji is the most frequently used among academics in group discussions (51.8%), suggesting that it conveys strong emotional responses. The study highlights significant considerations regarding gender, religious and cultural biases in emoji usage, indicating that while emojis can enhance communication, their overuse may lead to negative consequences. It suggests that effective use of emojis in communication requires an understanding of context, audience and cultural sensitivity to avoid misunderstandings and maintain effective communication. This study underscores the importance of emojis in academic settings, enhancing emotional expression and influencing social dynamics as digital communication continues to evolve.

Deconstructing comic persona: theatricality and absorption in Bo Burnham’s Make Happy (2016) and Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette (2018)

Comic persona is a central term in both comedy scholarship and comedic practice, which is used to analyse the performance of self in stand-up comedy and the relationship between a comedian’s onstage and offstage self. In recent years, however, some comedians have played with and troubled the idea of a consistent comic persona. This article takes two such comedy shows, Bo Burnham’s Make Happy (2016) and Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette (2018), as case studies to argue that the notion of comic persona restricts discussions about stand-up comedy to metaphysical notions of self-expression, authenticity, and truth, and hampers our understanding of the comedy audience. Drawing on theories of spectatorship from the field of theatre and performance studies, the article proposes theatricality and absorption as helpful concepts to analyse the strategies employed by stand-up comedians to play with the perspectives of their audiences. While absorption refers to a strategy of playing into, and implicitly confirming, the cultural perspectives of an audience, theatricality denotes the critical strategy of deconstructing and making explicit these perspectives, and points to the spectatorial awareness that reality itself is socially scripted and staged in ways that resemble the theatre. While Burnham’s deconstruction of comic persona works to confuse audiences about the distinction between real and staged, and to present a critique of the late capitalist pressure to perform, Gadsby’s emancipatory politics holds on to the idea of stand-up as a mode of truth-telling so as to make room for their story about homophobia and sexual assault.

From Words to Worlds: Metaphor Translation of Zootopia from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory

This study aims to analyze the types of metaphor in the animated film Zootopia and explore effective translation strategies to promote cross-cultural communication. Employing text analysis and case study methods, this research examines subtitle translation strategies under the framework of functional equivalence theory. The finding reveals that the application of vocabulary equivalence and cultural equivalence can effectively steer the translation of metaphors in Zootopia, offering strategic guidance to translators. These strategies enhance the quality of metaphor translation in animated films, fostering greater audience understanding and acceptance of the film, and facilitating cross-cultural communication through animated cinema. This study also provides a useful reference for related research and translation practice.

The main focus of this research is to identify how HR's role in designing, managing and delivering relevant content can strengthen Somethinc's brand positioning in the global market and increase its business competitiveness. Through a qualitative approach with interviews and case studies, this research reveals that the quality and creativity of human resources, understanding of international audiences, and the ability to adapt to digital trends play a very important role in formulating an effective content marketing strategy. Apart from that, solid team collaboration and the use of analytical data in decision making also support the achievement of more targeted marketing goals. The results of this research show that competent human resources can have a significant impact on increasing brand awareness and customer loyalty, which in turn strengthens Somethingnc's position in the international market. Therefore, investing in developing human resources who have digital skills and understanding of global markets is an important factor in a successful content marketing strategy.

This study examines the audience reception of photojournalism published by Tirto, focusing on journalistic photos that depict the chaos during the match between Arema Malang and Persebaya Surabaya at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang. Using a qualitative methodology with an analytical study approach, the research draws on Stuart Hall's reception theory. Six informants provided interpretations of the Kanjuruhan tragedy's content based on their social and cultural backgrounds. Findings reveal that audience understanding can be categorized into three positions: dominant hegemony, negotiation, and opposition. In the dominant position, the audience aligns completely with the media message. In the negotiation position, the audience accepts part of the message but also criticizes and rejects certain aspects. In the opposition position, the audience completely rejects the media message, replacing it with their understanding. This study offers valuable insights into media communication dynamics and the essential role of socio-cultural context in shaping audience reception of media content.

유아기의 친환경 생애 교육을 위한 분리배출 교구 디자인

As the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is expanding, the need for early childhood environmental education that approaches them from a life-cycle perspective is also growing. Therefore, this study proposes a three-step design of learning materials for the formation of separation habits in toddlers and aims to view environmental education from a lifelong learning perspective. In addition, service design tools such as journey maps, affinity diagrams, and expert interviews were used to enhance the understanding of the target audience, and the initial concept of Product Service System (PSS) was used to understand the process of toddlers' awareness of building a sustainable society until adulthood. The three teaching aids created were designed to include playful elements to engage toddlers, allowing them to learn about the concept and practice of separating waste in a natural way. In this sense, this study aims to contribute to the development of environmental awareness and the formation of eco-friendly habits in young children. Furthermore, it focuses on enabling toddlers to continue to maintain and practice these habits even after they reach adulthood. In doing so, we hope to provide useful implications for the future development of early childhood environmental education programs.
