Ultrafiltration membrane (UF) is a membrane capable of separating very small solutes, which are below 0.01 µm to 1 nm. UF membranes have been applied in the purification, concentration, filtration and separation of solutes in various industries such as the pharmaceutical, dairy, biotechnology and sewage treatment industries. But the main problem for UF membranes is fouling. To avoid this condition, preparing the modified polyvinyl alcohol/polyether sulfone grafted silica from rice husk ash (PVA/PES/SiO2) has been prepared by phase inversion induced with immersion precipitation method. The performance membranes were investigated by four kinds of modified PES/SiO2, PES/PVA3%/SiO2, PES/PVA5%/SiO2 and PES membrane as a comparison. The analysis of modified membranes performance was included permeation, physicochemical properties, permeation performance. The FT-IR spectra and XRD patterns confirmed that PVA/PES/SiO2 adsorbed to each other between PVA, PES and SiO2 and were not released during membrane formation. SEM analysis confirm that all the membrane showed the ultrafiltration structure.
