AbstractThe International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) has defined three different types of Complex Regional Pain Syndromes (CRPS): 1. Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy; 2. Causalgia; 3. Mixed. A great number of predisposing and precipitating factors have been described in relation to aetiology. Anticonvulsant therapy has been employed occasionally to control pain associated to CRPS. We report the case of a 52-year-old male who suffers from CRPS, with two relevant facts: firstly, the symptoms manifested after undergoing a coronary by-pass with radial artery; secondly, the symptoms disappeared after treatment with gabapentin. Our therapeutic approach has been remarkably effective and well tolerated and therefore it should be taken into account as a treatment option. Moreover, to our knowledge, no reference has been found of other cases of CRPS after coronary bypass graft surgery.
