Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in driving Indonesia’s economic growth, innovation, and job creation. However, the majority of MSMEs, particularly in the food and beverage sector, face significant challenges in quality control and operational efficiency due to limited internal resources. This study aims to investigate the effect of Soft Total Quality Management (Soft TQM) on Operational Performance and Business Performance, with Operational Performance examined as a mediating variable. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 185 student-owned food and beverage businesses at Ciputra University Surabaya. Respondents were selected from three cohorts (2021, 2022, 2023) using a purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the help of SmartPLS software. The results indicate that Soft TQM significantly affects Operational Performance, and that Operational Performance significantly affects Business Performance. However, the direct effect of Soft TQM on Business Performance, as well as its indirect effect through Operational Performance, is not statistically significant. These findings suggest that while Soft TQM can enhance internal operations, its impact on overall business performance is contingent upon the presence of structured systems and readiness of internal capabilities. Therefore, strengthening operational systems and aligning TQM practices with organizational strategy is crucial for MSMEs aiming for sustainable competitiveness.

Educational quality management has become a strategic topic in the era of globalization because it plays a crucial role in improving institutional effectiveness and learning quality. The application of quality management principles, such as Total Quality Management (TQM) and the process approach, has been implemented in various educational institutions, although the results and approaches are still varied. This study aims to systematically examine the principles and benefits of quality management in education and to answer two main questions: (1) what are the most dominant quality management principles used in education, and (2) what is the impact of implementing these principles on improving educational quality. The research method used is a Literature Review with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from Google Scholar and Publish or Perish (PoP) databases using the keywords "principles and benefits of quality management in education." Of the 50 articles published between 2020 and 2025, 5 were selected for further analysis. The analysis yielded three main themes: the application of TQM principles, challenges in quality implementation, and the role of leadership in maintaining the sustainability of educational quality. In general, the implementation of quality management has been shown to improve organizational effectiveness, educator professionalism, and the overall quality of learning outcomes. This study also recommends further studies focusing on the integration of quality management principles with digital transformation in education.

Total The abstract is well structured and written in clear academic language; however, this revision strengthens the theoretical contribution and novelty of the research. Total Quality Management (TQM) has evolved into one of the most influential paradigms for achieving excellence in education. In the 21st century, educational institutions are challenged to provide services that are student-centered, data-driven, and responsive to stakeholder expectations. This study aims to critically analyze the strategic relevance and theoretical contribution of Arcaro’s TQM principles in enhancing educational service quality. By employing a library research method, this study synthesizes findings from national and international scholarly literature, including journals, books, and prior studies on TQM implementation in education. The analysis reveals that Arcaro’s TQM framework not only aligns with global educational quality standards but also introduces a pedagogical dimension often absent in conventional management models. Its focus on leadership commitment, stakeholder participation, data-based evaluation, and continuous improvement provides a holistic structure for institutional transformation. Theoretically, this study contributes to the modernization of educational quality management by integrating Arcaro’s human-centered approach emphasizing ethical leadership, collaborative culture, and learner empowerment into contemporary educational contexts. Practically, the adaptation of Arcaro’s TQM principles offers a new strategic perspective for developing sustainable quality systems in both schools and higher education institutions. Despite challenges such as limited resources, bureaucratic rigidity, and resistance to change, effective leadership and adaptive governance remain key to successful implementation. In conclusion, Arcaro’s TQM framework provides a comprehensive and contextually adaptable model that bridges management theory and educational innovation, advancing a culture of continuous improvement and stakeholder satisfaction in the global education landscape.

Abstract In this study, we present a dynamic game model that utilizes blockchain technology in a distribution channel in which a supplier sells chips—called physical oracles in blockchain language—to a football club, which are then embedded within players’ jerseys. This enables data collection during matches, which is recorded on the blockchain, making the product original and non-imitable. In the event of defective chips, the jerseys are sold through traditional and official stores rather than the blockchain platform, which still provides lucrative business opportunities for the goods although it is defective. The study compares two pricing mechanisms: smart wholesale pricing, which compensates suppliers based on defect-free rates, and traditional profit sharing, which pays based on digital market sales. We demonstrate that, although the wholesale price contract is “smart”, it requires a traditional profit-sharing mechanism to coordinate a channel, conditioned to the levels of the current contractual agreements. Overall, our dynamic game model demonstrates the potential of blockchain technology to enhance the distribution channel of collectibles and incentivize total quality management through oracles.

The study was looking at the role of Ward Education Officers (WEOs) in ensuring the improvement of performance of teachers at public secondary schools in the Arusha District Council in Tanzania. The massive growth of secondary schools due to national education policies requires high supervisory practices to provide quality education. The actual performance of the students in academics is very poor while WEOs are present, which indicates that there is a need to have a new approach at the supervisory level. The study was governed by the Clinical Supervision model (CSM), which encourages teaching by use of systematic steps, and Total Quality Management (TQM), which is based on the principles of continuous improvement and focused on quality assurance in different aspects. A concurrent triangulation design was used to collect data from 135 respondents who were DSEOs, WEOs, heads of schools, and teachers by using simple random and purposive sampling. The study demonstrates that WEOs have crucial responsibilities of monitoring the number of enrolled students, examining school management systems, and providing teaching assistance to teachers. The WEOs face some challenges during the implementation of their responsibilities, which limit their service delivery since they lack adequate transport, lack training, and work in poor facilities. The study revealed that WEOs should have resources and encouragement to accomplish improved teacher performance, which will result in increased student outcomes. Also, the study suggests improving the effectiveness of WEO by providing superior logistical assistance, enhancing ongoing professional growth, and resolving the issue of supervision.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the effect of knowledge management (KM) on innovation (INN) through the mediating role of total quality management (TQM). Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 130 certified family SMEs. Structural equation modeling was used to test the conceptual model. Findings Results show that knowledge management positively influences TQM. Similarly, TQM positively influences product and process innovation. The direct effect of KM on product and process INN is not significant. Furthermore, results show that the indirect effect of KM on product and process INN through TQM is significant. TQM fully mediates the relationship between KM and product and process INN. Research limitations/implications This research was carried out on the basis of a sample of family SMEs, which shows the difficulty of generalizing the results of this study. Future researchers are encouraged to investigate the present model by selecting samples of companies from the industrial and service sectors. Practical implications The results of this article demonstrate that in resource-constrained SMEs, KM practices alone are insufficient; embedding them within a structured TQM framework is necessary to translate knowledge into innovative outputs. As a result, managers can pay particular attention to knowledge management processes, removing barriers to organizational learning to improve innovation. Originality/value This article test a full mediation model in which TQM completely channels the effect of KM into both product and process INN, challenging the assumption that KM directly drives innovation.

ABSTRACT Construction and demolition waste negatively impacts the sustainable development of the construction industry. Furthermore, construction and demolition waste management (CDWM) still faces barriers in Vietnam, including lack of awareness and collaboration among stakeholders. This study aims to explore stakeholder views on sustainable CDWM in Vietnam based on a perspective of total quality management. A survey questionnaire focusing on stakeholders in the Vietnamese construction industry was developed. The stakeholders included: (1) direct stakeholders (owners, contractors, subcontractors, designers, consultants, suppliers, and waste management firms), (2) authorities, (3) institutes, educators, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), (4) end-users, and (5) society. The data from 126 valid responses were analyzed through multiple techniques including analysis of variance (ANOVA), Spearman’s rank, Cronbach’s alpha, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results revealed that stakeholders underestimated CDWM activities. The group of institutes, educators, and NGOs exhibited a more positive attitude, while the society group expressed a more negative attitude on CDWM issues. However, all stakeholders agreed that sustainable CDWM activities are essential for the Vietnamese construction industry. This study proposes and validates a sustainable CDWM framework, adapted from total quality management perspective to enhance stakeholder awareness and collaboration. This framework contributes to promoting comprehensive CDWM systems, offering a new approach to achieve sustainable development within the built environment. Implications: Theoretically, this study highlights the current context of construction and demolition waste management (CDWM) in Vietnam and the potential of integrating total quality management principles into CDWM to drive sustainability in the construction industry. Practically, the proposed framework provides a structured approach for authorities to enhance performance, strengthen stakeholder collaboration, and promote sustainable CDWM practices. This study is expected to attract the attention of scholars, policymakers, and practitioners interested in advancing waste management systems and sustainable construction management.

The growing demand for organizational effectiveness has intensified interest in the integration of quality management (QM) and performance appraisal (PA). Yet, their relationship remains fragmented in both theory and practice. While QM emphasizes continuous improvement, customer focus, and operational efficiency, PA is primarily concerned with evaluating employee contributions and aligning them with organizational goals. The problem addressed in this study is the lack of consolidated insights into how these two domains intersect, particularly in terms of enhancing both organizational performance and employee engagement. This study aims to critically review the literature to identify consistent and emerging themes that define the relationship between QM and PA, as well as the associated challenges and future directions. The study employed a systematic literature review approach, synthesizing peer-reviewed research articles, conceptual papers, and case studies across management and organizational performance domains. Findings reveal three consistent themes: the enduring influence of Total Quality Management (TQM) on organizational performance, the role of performance management systems in employee motivation, and the adoption of innovative appraisal methods. In addition, two rising themes were identified: the integration of QM with innovation performance, and the expansion of QM systems in specialized industries such as healthcare and automotive. The implications of this study are both theoretical and practical. Theoretically, it bridges QM and PA as mutually reinforcing processes within organizational performance frameworks. Practically, it highlights the need for hybrid models that align QM practices with modern, technology-driven appraisal systems, offering pathways for sustainable growth, innovation, and employee engagement.

This study aims to comprehensively examine the concept and implementation of the Total Quality Management (TQM) model from the perspective of Islamic education. TQM, as a managerial approach emphasizing the involvement of all organizational elements, process control, continuous improvement, and stakeholder satisfaction, is believed to offer effective solutions to the challenges of improving the quality of educational institutions. However, in the context of Islamic education, TQM cannot be applied mechanically as in industrial or business sectors; instead, it needs to be adapted to align with Islamic spiritual and moral values such as amanah (professional responsibility), ihsan (pursuit of excellence and perfection in work), and akhlaq (ethics and personal integrity). This research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach, utilizing an extensive literature review of studies and scientific publications from nationally accredited journals (Sinta 1-2) published between 2021 and 2025. The reviewed sources include empirical studies on the application of TQM in Islamic schools, madrasahs, pesantrens, and Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia, as well as contemporary quality management theories relevant to Islamic values. The analysis maps the alignment between TQM principles, such as leadership, continuous improvement, customer focus, and teamwork, and Islamic management principles, including tauhid, syura, trust, and istikamah (steadfastness). The findings reveal that the implementation of TQM in Islamic educational institutions significantly contributes to academic quality enhancement, managerial efficiency, and the strengthening of value-based organizational culture. Institutions that integrate TQM principles with Islamic values show improvements in accreditation status, student satisfaction, teacher and lecturer productivity, and public trust. Moreover, the integration of spiritual values with modern management principles has proven to be a key factor in achieving competitive excellence and global relevance while maintaining Islamic identity. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of the Islamic Total Quality Management (TQM-I) model as a holistic quality management paradigm that not only focuses on achieving performance standards and efficiency but also on reinforcing the moral, spiritual, and social dimensions of education. This model serves as a strategic foundation for developing internal quality assurance systems across Islamic educational institutions, aiming to establish excellence, competitiveness, and a strong Islamic character.

Improving the quality of education has become a strategic issue in the management of educational institutions in the global era. One widely used approach is Total Quality Management (TQM), which focuses on continuous improvement, multi-stakeholder engagement, and stakeholder satisfaction. This study aims to analyze the implementation of TQM in education, specifically regarding implementation strategies, challenges, and opportunities faced by educational institutions. This study used a qualitative literature review method, examining five scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025. Data were obtained through searches on Google Scholar and Publish or Perish, then analyzed through screening and thematic coding. The study results indicate that the implementation of TQM contributes positively to improving the quality of learning, graduate quality, and internal quality assurance systems at various levels of education. The integration of Islamic values and character is also a trend in the implementation of TQM in religious-based schools. In conclusion, it was found that most research is still case studies and limited to specific school contexts, thus not providing a comprehensive picture of the variation in TQM practices at various levels of education. Therefore, further comparative and integrative research is needed to strengthen understanding of the effectiveness of MMT in continuously improving the quality of education.

This scoping review examines the impact of Total Quality Management (TQM) implementation on organizational performance in Bahraini private sector firms. Following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a search of electronic databases (including Business Source Complete, Scopus, and Web of Science) and grey literature (e.g., industry reports, government documents) was conducted from January 2000 to December 2024 using keywords related to “TQM,” “performance,” and “Bahrain.” Thirty-seven sources, primarily quantitative studies in the manufacturing and service sectors, met the inclusion criteria. Results revealed that 76% of the studies included reported a positive correlation between TQM and both financial and operational performance. Customer focus, leadership commitment, and employee involvement were the most frequently implemented TQM dimensions. Organizational culture emerged as a key moderating factor. Key research gaps include the underrepresentation of SMEs and emerging sectors such as information technology and logistics, a limited focus on non-financial performance outcomes like innovation and sustainability, and a lack of longitudinal studies exploring long-term impacts. These findings highlight avenues for future research, including the use of mixed methods approaches and comparative studies across GCC countries. Organizations can leverage these results to inform TQM implementation strategies tailored to the Bahraini context. Policymakers can develop targeted support mechanisms to enhance SME quality management capabilities. Industry bodies can promote more comprehensive approaches to organizational excellence by incorporating broader performance dimensions into quality award and recognition programs.

Purpose Amid growing global concern for the psychological sustainability of healthcare professionals (HCPs), this study investigates the role of Workplace Spirituality (WOPS) as a soft total quality management (TQM) practice in enhancing employee wellbeing. Grounded in conservation of resources (COR) theory, WOPS is conceptualized as an organizational resource caravan that shapes emotional labour strategies specifically, surface acting, deep acting and genuine acting as mediators of wellbeing. Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional survey design was employed, utilizing data from 555 healthcare professionals working in private healthcare institutions in India. Validated, multi-dimensional instruments were used to measure WOPS, emotional labour strategies and employee wellbeing. The conceptual model was empirically tested using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to examine direct and mediated effects. Findings The results provide robust empirical support for WOPS as a dual-pathway enhancer of wellbeing: directly through meaning-making and indirectly through emotional regulation. Specifically, genuine acting emerged as a significant positive mediator, indicating its resource-preserving and authenticity-enhancing function. In contrast, surface acting negatively mediated the relationship, reflecting its resource-depleting and dissonance-inducing nature. Deep acting was not a significant mediator, suggesting its limited adaptive value within high-intensity caregiving roles. Research limitations/implications Theoretically, this study advances COR theory by conceptualizing emotional labour strategies as asymmetrical mediators, where surface acting depletes, and genuine acting replenishes, psychological resources. Practically, it provides actionable guidance for healthcare leaders and HR professionals aiming to embed meaning-driven, value-oriented HRM practices that bolster emotional regulation and promote sustainable employee wellbeing. However, the cross-sectional design limits causal inference, and the exclusive focus on private healthcare professionals in India may restrict generalizability to public or cross-cultural contexts. Future research should adopt longitudinal, multi-level and cross-cultural methodologies to capture the evolving nexus between organizational spirituality, emotional regulation and wellbeing across settings and time. Originality/value This study uniquely positions WOPS as a soft-TQM practice and redefines emotional labour as an organizationally shaped response rather than a solely individual burden. It introduces genuine acting as a critical yet underexplored emotional labour mechanism and expands the geographical scope of workplace spirituality research into the Indian healthcare context.
