This study examines the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) at Mindanao State University–Integrated Laboratory School (MSU-ILS) Philippines, as a strategic effort to build sustainable educational quality. MSU-ILS is a laboratory school under the College of Education- Mindanao State University, which plays a dual role as a provider of basic and secondary education and as a training ground for prospective teachers. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, this research collected data through document analysis, direct observations, and in-depth interviews with school leaders, and teachers to obtain a comprehensive understanding of quality management practices. The findings reveal that MSU-ILS applies TQM principles in an integrated manner through a clear institutional vision, student-centered educational services, continuous improvement initiatives, quality-oriented leadership, and strong collaboration among internal and external stakeholders. These practices are embedded in academic programs, character education, peace education, and organizational culture, supporting the development of an inclusive, transformative, and peace-oriented learning environment, particularly within a post-conflict social context. The study demonstrates that successful implementation of TQM in education extends beyond academic achievement to include character formation, innovation, stakeholder engagement, and long-term organizational commitment. This research provides practical insights for educational institutions, especially schools undergoing quality transformation, to adopt TQM principles as a strategic framework for enhancing educational management, institutional effectiveness, and sustainable school development.

This study aims to analyze barriers and formulate strategies to accelerate the accreditation of the Nunukan Regency Transportation Agency's Motor Vehicle Inspection Technical Implementation Unit (UPT PKB). Accreditation is a requirement of the Ministry of Transportation to ensure service quality, safety, and compliance with national standards. To date, the Nunukan Regency UPT PKB has not yet obtained accreditation, resulting in weak formal legitimacy and poor quality of public services in the motor vehicle inspection sector. This study used a qualitative method based on case studies. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and field observations, and then analyzed using the Miles & Huberman interactive model. The analysis focused on the application of the “Plan-Do-Check-Act” (PDCA) framework, integrated with Total Quality Management (TQM) principles, to identify barriers and develop continuous improvement strategies. The results indicate that barriers to accelerating accreditation stem from three main categories. Internal factors include limited human resources, substandard facilities and infrastructure, and incomplete quality documentation. External factors include budgetary constraints, difficult geographical conditions, weak inter-institutional coordination, and the absence of regional regulations. Structural and bureaucratic factors include weak synergy between DPOs and a lack of urgency regarding the accreditation process.

This study assessed the status of science laboratories and their relationship to the academic performance of Grade 10 learners in public secondary schools in Gumaca, Division of Quezon, as a basis for a Total Quality Management (TQM) science laboratory development plan. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, data were gathered regarding laboratory availability, functionality, safety protocols, and utilization. Results indicated that while basic laboratory apparatuses are generally available, the maintenance and functional adequacy of facilities face moderate challenges. A Pearson r correlation coefficient of 0.939 was obtained, revealing a very strong and significant relationship between the status of the laboratory and the learners' academic performance. This suggests that the quality of the laboratory environment is a primary determinant of scientific mastery. Qualitative data further showed that teachers encounter significant challenges in resource management, often relying on improvisational strategies. Consequently, the study proposed the SAFE-Lab 2030 Development Plan, anchored on TQM principles and the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle. This plan provides a systematic roadmap for institutionalizing standardized safety protocols, digital inventory monitoring, and sustainable facility upkeep to ensure long-term educational excellence in the district.

The integration of knowledge management (KM) with total quality management (TQM) has a significant impact on project and organization performance. While previous literature has linked KM with TQM within the broader concept of organizational development and project performance, there was a notable gap concerning their application to construction projects in developing countries like Ghana. Thus, there is little information on the variables that contribute to their relationship. This study aimed to fill these gaps by investigating the integration of KM practices with TQM principles specifically in the Ghanaian construction industry, and identifying essential factors for this integration. A cross-sectional survey design was used and the population considered in this study consisted of architects, quantity surveyors, and civil engineers in the Ghanaian construction industry. The study adopted a purposive sampling technique. Quantitative data were collected from 256 professionals. Descriptive statistical techniques and the partial least squares structural equation modeling techniques were used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that a one-unit rise in knowledge management processes (KMPs) corresponds to a roughly 0.839-standard deviation increase in TQM, suggesting that implementing KM will potentially improve the implementation of TQM principles during the delivery of construction projects. Conversely, a decrease in KMP is associated with a decrease in TQM. This can be implemented practically when there is leadership competence and commitment to ensure a culture of KM processes and TQM practices for the project to perform effectively. Theoretically, the study contributes to current discourse on KM and TQM from a fresh perspective.

The construction industry continues to encounter persistent challenges regarding quality execution and process inefficiencies. Total Quality Management (TQM) is widely advocated to address these shortcomings, yet the influence of managerial personality traits on its effectiveness remains underexplored. This study examines how the Big Five personality dimensions affect TQM execution across 89 construction firms in Iran. Using a cross-sectional design and multiple regression analysis, the study reveals that managerial personality significantly predicts TQM implementation (R 2 = 0.33). This study contributes to the body of knowledge by empirical assessment of the relationship between TQM principles and manager personality traits. The results indicate that Conscientiousness plays the most prominent role in TQM implementation, supporting sustained improvement initiatives and adherence to standards. Openness to Experience is also associated with more effective TQM practices by fostering innovation and adaptation. In contrast, Neuroticism is inversely related to TQM outcomes, as emotional instability undermines decision-making consistency. Interestingly, Agreeableness shows a negative relationship in the multivariate model, suggesting that overly agreeable managers may face challenges in enforcing quality requirements. Extraversion does not exhibit a significant independent association with TQM implementation. These findings highlight the value of integrating personality considerations into managerial selection to optimize TQM outcomes.

The management quality of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs has become a critical concern, particularly for environmental initiatives that are often implemented symbolically and lack long-term sustainability. From an operations management perspective, such programs can be viewed as community-based operations that require systematic quality management to ensure consistent performance and impact. This study aims to evaluate the quality management practices of an environmental CSR program implemented through the Kampung Ramah Lingkungan (KRL) initiative in Bogor Regency, Indonesia, using a Total Quality Management (TQM) framework. A qualitative descriptive approach with an evaluative case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis involving corporate CSR representatives, program managers, and beneficiary communities. The evaluation focused on five TQM dimensions: continuous improvement, employee empowerment, just-in-time, knowledge of TQM tools, and customer focus. The findings indicate that the CSR program has moderately implemented TQM principles, particularly in continuous improvement, community empowerment, and alignment with local needs. However, limitations remain in the standardisation of performance indicators and the systematic use of data for monitoring and evaluation. This study contributes to the operations management literature by extending the application of TQM to community-based and non-profit operational contexts. Practically, the findings provide insights for CSR managers and practitioners on how quality management principles can enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of environmental CSR programs.

Purpose This research study aims to develop a robust and ranking-based empirical framework for assessing supply chain resilience (SC-RS) through the identification, classification and validation of key driving factors. The study addresses critical gaps in existing SC-RS literature through the integration of multiple analytical techniques to evaluate the hierarchical relationships among resilience enablers. Design/methodology/approach Twelve critical drivers of SC-RS were identified through a systematic literature review (SLR) supported by theoretical synthesis and a structured survey of 283 respondents from industry and academia. The identified drivers are analyzed using interpretive structural modelling (ISM) to examine their associations and classified into four strategic clusters using MICMAC (Matrix of Cross Impact Multiplications Applied to Classification) technique relied in their driving and dependence power. The proposed conceptual model is subsequently validated by partial least squares structural equations modelling (PLS-SEM), which accesses the model’ reliability, convergent and divergent validity, and overall goodness-of-fits. Findings The findings of the study reveal that, with the use of a validated model, the firms can enhance their resilience by redesigning and optimizing their critical resources. The validated framework also provides firms with a data-driven basis for prioritization of resource allocation, optimize operational strategies and enhancing adaptive capabilities. Further, an integration of total quality management (TQM) principles into the resilience framework underscores the importance of process orientation and continuous improvement in achieving SC-RS. Research limitations/implications While this research work offers a theoretically sound and empirically tested framework, its generalizability is limited to the Indian Industrial setup. The future scholars could adopt a longitudinal or cross-national perspective, and can incorporate variables such as organization’ culture, digital maturity and agile partnership networking for more comprehensive understanding of SC-RS dynamics. Originality/value This research work contributes a novel and integrative methodological approach that connects the conceptual model and empirical validation of SC-RS. Further, by synthesizing ISM, MICMAC and PLS-SEM within a unified framework, the research provides unique strategic insights and operational tools for firms seeking to strengthen resilience across their supply chains (SCs). The framework’ relevance is further enhanced by the inclusion of TQM perspective, which encourages a balanced emphasis on process quality, resilience, and responsiveness in dynamic and changing business settings.

Academic burnout among madrasah students remains insufficiently examined, especially through participatory and culturally responsive approaches. Existing research tends to emphasize quantitative measurement or teacher-centered interventions. This study seeks to address this gap by integrating photovoice within a Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework and grounding it in the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) to explore and mitigate academic burnout. The research involved collaboration with two Guidance and Counseling teachers and ten students at a Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Pekanbaru. Data were collected through reflective writing, semi-structured interviews, photo elicitation, and participatory observation, and analyzed using thematic coding with methodological triangulation. The findings demonstrate that photovoice effectively exposes latent academic stress, strengthens teachers’ reflective practice, and promotes meaningful student engagement in counseling processes. Visual narratives—such as torn notebooks, clocks, and fatigue-related imagery—functioned as symbolic expressions of burnout that facilitated empathetic dialogue and informed more precise intervention strategies. This study contributes a novel model of student-led visual diagnostic practice within Islamic school counseling, aligned with TQM’s continuous improvement framework. The findings highlight the value of photovoice as a culturally relevant and sustainable method for strengthening student-centered burnout prevention and improving the overall quality of guidance and counseling services in madrasah settings.

This study aims to examine the implementation of educational supervision based on Edward Deming’s Total Quality Management (TQM) principles in improving learning quality. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing interviews, observations, and document analysis to capture supervisory practices. Data were analyzed using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) cycle as a framework for supervision quality management. The findings reveal that educational supervision is implemented systematically through structured planning, professional execution, evidence-based evaluation, and continuous follow-up. The Check and Act stages play a critical role in strengthening teacher professionalism, fostering reflective practices, and sustaining a culture of quality improvement. These stages enable supervisors to use evaluative data as a basis for corrective actions and continuous development. The study implies that integrating TQM principles into educational supervision can transform supervision from a predominantly administrative function into a strategic mechanism for enhancing instructional quality. This research contributes both conceptually and practically to the development of supervision quality management in secondary education.

Total Quality Management (TQM) was the cooperative’s coordinated and continuous effort to improve operations by integrating customer focus, leadership, employee involvement, process management, factual decision-making, continuous improvement, and relationship management to achieve excellence and sustainability. This study aimed to (1) explore cooperative members’ experiences of TQM practices and (2) measure the extent of these practices in two multi-awarded multi-purpose cooperatives in Northern Negros. A sequential-exploratory approach, mixed-methods design was employed, where a qualitative case study was followed by a quantitative descriptive-comparative phase. In the qualitative phase, fourteen (14) conversation partners (seven per cooperative)—officers, department managers, employees, and active members— participated in semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using Creswell’s seven-step qualitative analysis. In the quantitative phase, the population included 6,935 members in MPC-A and 1,647 members in MPC-B. Using Cochran’s formula and stratified random sampling, 675 respondents (364 from MPC-A; 311 from MPC-B) were selected. The survey instrument was derived from qualitative themes and showed acceptable content validity (CVI = 0.793) and excellent reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.972). Findings showed strong implementation through responsive member service, transparent and values-driven leadership, teamwork and training support, clear procedures, coordinated work implementation, evidence-based decisions, innovation, and generally positive relationships rooted in trust and cooperative identity. However, recurring issues included monitoring lapses, communication gaps (including interest-rate concerns), uneven meeting participation, planning delays, workload/resource constraints, technology adaptation challenges, and weakened discipline after ISO monitoring was discontinued. Results indicated that all seven TQM principles were practiced to a very high extent, with the highest ratings in service quality, organizational values, support systems, decision-making, financial management, goal orientation, and organizational improvement. Relatively lower means appeared in business activity, leadership role, organizational meetings, planning, experience duration, and challenges encountered. Relationship management also remained very high with no significant differences across membership type, tenure, or position. TQM practices were consistently strong across the cooperatives, but strengthening monitoring, communication, participation, planning, and system/technology sustainability was recommended through the proposed Quality Excellence Sustainability Program (QESP).

Total Quality Management (TQM) has developed into a key managerial approach for enhancing educational quality. Arcaro introduced five core TQM principles in the educational context customer focus, total involvement, measurement, continuous improvement, and commitment which serve as a comprehensive framework for organizational improvement. This study examines the applicability of Arcaro’s TQM principles as a strategic approach for strengthening educational service quality in response to 21st-century demands. This research adopts a library study design by reviewing 35 literature sources, including national and international journal articles, authoritative books, and previous empirical studies on TQM implementation in education. The sources were selected based on relevance to TQM theory, publication within the last ten years (except foundational works), and methodological rigor. Data were analyzed through qualitative content analysis, involving categorization, comparison, and synthesis of key concepts across the selected literature. The findings show that Arcaro’s TQM principles align strongly with contemporary national and global quality standards by emphasizing stakeholder satisfaction, collaborative participation, evidence-based evaluation, continuous refinement, and leadership commitment. These principles consistently emerge as a strategic foundation for improving educational service quality, although implementation may be constrained by factors such as limited institutional resources, bureaucratic structures, and resistance to organizational change. Theoretically, this study contributes by reaffirming Arcaro’s TQM as a relevant framework for modern educational quality management. Practically, it offers guidance for schools and higher education institutions seeking structured strategies to enhance service quality through stakeholder engagement, data-driven practices, and continuous improvement mechanisms.

<p align="center"><strong><em>Abstract</em></strong></p><p><em>This study aims to evaluate the implementation of teacher performance assessment in improving the quality of education in community-based madrasah ibtidaiyah. A descriptive qualitative approach was used through a case study at MI NU 09 Kauman Boja Kendal. The informants consisted of 16 teachers and 1 madrasah head who were selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed using thematic techniques. The results of the study show that the implementation of teacher performance assessment is still administrative, unsustainable, and has less impact on improving the quality of learning. Senior teachers with civil servant status and a service period of more than 15 years show a low level of participation in the evaluation process due to the lack of follow-up and professional strengthening. Other inhibiting factors include low digital literacy, lack of learning innovation, and an organizational culture that is less open to feedback. This study recommends strengthening reflective supervision and the formation of professional learning communities based on the principles of total quality management as a strategy for sustainable teacher performance improvement.</em></p><p> </p><p><em> </em></p>
