Ti based composite coating with a micron-sized TiN and nano-sized TiB was successfully fabricated. During tribocorrosion, the corrosion rate due to stress (ΔCS) of the 1600 W and 2400 W samples increased gradually to 304.42 μm/yr and 272.38 μm/yr, and the wear rate due to stress (ΔWS) decreased gradually to −463.69 μm/yr and −794.84 μm/yr, respectively. The main reason is that a deeper deformation zone was formed at the subsurface of plastic 2400 W sample as stress increases to 300 MPa, which not only inhibits the local strain evolution to cracks but also accumulates dislocations and forms nanocrystals to maintain high-strain hardening.
