Enhanced UV Light Responsivity in -Oriented 2D Perovskites Realized by Pressure-Induced Ultrafast Exciton Transport.

Two-dimensional (2D) <100>-oriented perovskites exhibit superior optoelectronic properties, offering significant potential in photovoltaic, light-emitting, and photodetection applications. Nevertheless, their enlarged interlayer spacing restricts longitudinal carrier transport, thereby limiting its potential applications. While <110>-oriented 2D perovskites provide a prospective solution with their compact interlayer spacing, their inherent structure, characterized by octahedra tilting, indirectly hinders carrier transport due to the generation of self-trapped excitons (STEs) caused by strong electron-phonon coupling. Here, we adeptly regulate the photoluminescence (PL) from STEs to free excitons (FEs) emission within the 2D <110>-oriented (API)PbBr4 single crystal through structure optimization under pressure treatment. Besides, we observed anisotropic FE transport with an anisotropy ratio of 4.97. The exciton mobility reaches a peak of 93.6 cm2 V-1 s-1 at 2.7 GPa, a value comparable to those of their three-dimensional (3D) counterparts, which is attributed to a reduction in electron-phonon coupling and exciton reduced mass. Additionally, this ultrafast exciton transport significantly enhances UV light responsivity, exhibiting an increase of approximately 5000 times at 2.7 GPa in comparison to ambient conditions. These findings highlight the prospective application of 2D <110>-oriented perovskites in high-performance optoelectronic devices through intrinsic structural modulation.

Spectral incremental dynamic methodology for nonlinear structural systems endowed with fractional derivative elements subjected to fully non-stationary stochastic excitation

A novel spectral incremental dynamic analysis methodology for analysing structural response in nonlinear systems with fractional derivative elements is presented, aligning with modern seismic design codes, like Eurocode 8. Drawing inspiration from the concept of fully non-stationary stochastic processes, the vector of the imposed seismic excitations is characterised by time and frequency evolving power spectra stochastically compatible with elastic response spectra of specified damping ratio and ground acceleration. The proposed method efficiently determines the nonlinear system time-dependent probability density functions for the non-stationary system response amplitude by employing potent nonlinear stochastic dynamics concepts, such as stochastic averaging and statistical linearisation. Unlike traditional incremental dynamic analysis curves found in the literature, the herein proposed method introduces a three-dimensional alternative counterpart, that of stochastic engineering demand parameter surfaces, providing with higher-order statistics of the system response. An additional noteworthy aspect involves the derivation of response evolutionary power spectra as function of spectral acceleration, offering a deeper insight into the underlying system dynamics. Besides its capabilities, the method maintains the coveted element of a particularly low associated computational cost, increasing its attractiveness and practicality among diverse applications of engineering interest. Numerical examples comprising the bilinear hysteretic model endowed with fractional derivative elements subject to an Eurocode 8 elastic design spectrum demonstrate the capabilities and reliability of the proposed methodology. Its accuracy is assessed by juxtaposing the derived results with germane Monte Carlo Simulation data.

Exploring the effect of morphology on electrochemical performance of nickel and cobalt metal-organic frameworks and their derivatives for supercapacitor and hydrogen evolution

This study explores the novel approach of investigating the use of binder-free nickel and cobalt metal-organic frameworks and their metal oxide derivatives in 1D, 2D, and 3D morphologies on Ni foam for applications in supercapacitors and hydrogen evolution. This research work involves changing parameters like precursor concentration, organic linkers, and reaction time, leading to the formation of stable one-, two-, and three-dimensional NiO and Co3O4 nanostructures. The morphologies of pristine MOFs and their corresponding oxides were comprehensively verified through FESEM analysis. Significantly, the materials with two-dimensional growth exhibited superior electrochemical performance in supercapacitors and good electrocatalytic performance in hydrogen evolution reaction when compared to their one-dimensional and three-dimensional counterparts. Among them, 2D NiO demonstrated exceptional performance as a supercapacitor electrode, with a specific capacity of 688.13 C g−1 (1376.26 F g−1) at 1 A g−1, surpassing 1D and 3D NiO nanostructures. It also demonstrated good stability by retaining 93.1 % of its initial capacity after 5000 cycles at 10 A g−1. The assembled asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) achieved a high energy density of 65.27 Wh kg−1 at 375 W kg−1, maintaining 33.18 Wh kg−1 even at 7500 W kg−1. It also maintained 87.8 % retention of its initial capacity up to 5000 cycles at 10 A g−1. Furthermore, when tested for HER, all oxides exhibited better performances with specifically 2D NiO exhibiting good catalytic performance, reaching 10 mA cm−2 at a low overpotential of 129 mV (vs. RHE) and displaying remarkable stability over 24 h. This study upholds the superiority of two-dimensional sheet-like structures with interconnected network of nanoparticles in electrochemical and electrocatalytic performance compared to one-dimensional rod-like and three-dimensional pyramid-like structures.

Electromechanically Reconfigurable Terahertz Stereo Metasurfaces.

Dynamic terahertz devices are vital for the next generation of wireless communication, sensing, and non-destructive imaging technologies. Metasurfaces have emerged as a paradigm-shifting platform, offering varied functionalities, miniaturization, and simplified fabrication compared to their 3D counterparts. However, the presence of in-plane mirror symmetry and reduced degree of freedom impose fundamental limitations on achieving advanced chiral response, beamforming, and reconfiguration capabilities. In this work, a platform composed of electrically actuated resonators that can be colossally reconfigured between planar and 3D geometries is demonstrated. To illustrate the platform, metadevices with 3D Split Ring Resonators are fabricated, wherein two counteracting driving forces are combined: i) folding induced by stress mismatch, which enables non-volatile state design and ii) unfolding triggered by the strain associated with insulator-to-metal transition in VO2, which facilitates volatile structural reconfiguration. This large structural reconfiguration space allows for resonance mode switching, widely tunable magnetic and electric polarizabilities, and increased frequency agility. Moreover, the unique properties of VO2, such as the hysteretic nature of its phase transition is harnessed to demonstrate a multi-state memory. Therefore, these VO2 integrated metadevices are highly attractive for the realization of 6G communication devices such as reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, holographic beam formers, and spatial light modulators.

Preparation and application of chromatographic stationary phase based on two-dimensional materials

The stationary phase is the heart of chromatographic separation technology and a critical contributor to the overall separation performance of a chromatographic separation technique. However, traditional silicon-based materials designed for this purpose usually feature complex preparation processes, suboptimal permeability, pronounced mass-transfer resistance, and limited pH-range compatibility. These limitations have spurred ongoing research efforts aimed at developing new chromatographic stationary phases characterized by higher separation efficiency, adaptable selectivity, and a broader scope of applicability. In this context, the scientific community has made significant strides toward the development of new-generation materials suitable for use as chromatographic stationary phases. These materials include carbon-based nanomaterial arrays, carbon quantum dots, and two-dimensional (2D) materials. 2D-materials are characterized by nanometer-scale thicknesses, extensive specific surface areas, distinctive layered structures, and outstanding mechanical properties under standard conditions. Thus, these materials demonstrate excellent utility in various applications, such as electrical and thermal conductivity enhancements, gas storage and separation solutions, membrane separation technologies, and catalysis. Graphene, which is arguably the most popular 2D-material used for chromatographic separation, consists of a 2D-lattice of carbon atoms arranged in a single layer, with a large specific surface area and efficient adsorption properties. Its widespread adoption in research and various industries is a testament to its versatility and effectiveness. In addition to graphene, the scientific community has developed various 2D-materials that mirror the layered structures of graphene, such as boron nitride, transition-metal sulfides, and 2D porous organic frameworks, all of which offer unique advantages. 2D porous organic frameworks, in particular, have received attention because of their nanosheet morphology, one-dimensional pores, and special interlayer forces; thus, these frameworks are considered promising candidate chromatographic stationary phase materials. Such recognition is especially true for 2D-metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and 2D-covalent organic frameworks (COFs), which exhibit low densities, high porosities, and substantial specific surface areas. The modifiability of these materials, in terms of pore size, shape, functional groups, and layer-stacking arrangements allows for excellent separation selectivity, highlighting their promising potential in chromatographic separation. Compared with their three-dimensional counterparts, 2D-MOFs feature a simple pore structure that offers reduced mass-transfer resistance and enhanced column efficiency. These attributes highlight the advantages of 2D-MOF nanosheets as chromatographic stationary phases. Similarly, 2D-COFs, given their high specific surface area and porosity, not only exhibit great thermal stability and chemical tolerance but also support a wide selection of solvents and operational conditions. Therefore, their role in the preparation of chromatographic stationary phases is considered highly promising. This review discusses the latest research developments in 2D porous organic framework materials in the context of gas- and liquid-chromatographic stationary phases. It introduces the synthesis methods for these novel materials, elucidates their retention mechanisms, and describes the applications of other 2D-materials, such as graphene, its derivatives, graphitic carbon nitride, and boron nitride, in chromatography. This review aims to shed light on the promising development prospects and future directions of 2D-materials in the field of chromatographic separation, offering valuable insights into the rational design and application of new 2D-materials in chromatography.

Pilot study for three-dimensional cephalometric Enlow's counterpart analysis: Vertical track. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional comparison.

The introduction of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in dentistry has given orthodontists the possibility of studying craniofacial structures in three dimensions. Despite the possibility to obtain lateral cephalograms synthesized from CBCT, this approach still does not provide a fully three-dimensional evaluation of the patient's anatomy. While there has been some success in adapting traditional two-dimensional cephalometric analyses to three dimensions, the specific application of Enlow's cephalometric analysis using CBCT remains unexplored. This pilot study aims to introduce a novel approach for performing Enlow's vertical track analysis using CBCT images. Eighteen CBCT images of skeletal Class I (ANB = 2 ± 2) subjects (12 males and 6 females, aged from 9 to 19 years) with no history of previous orthodontic treatment were selected. For each subject, 2D Enlow's vertical track analysis was performed on lateral cephalograms extracted from the CBCT images, and separately, 3D vertical track analysis was directly performed on the CBCT images. To validate the proposed method, we compared the differences between the posterior vertical counterpart (PVC) and the middle vertical counterpart (MVC), as well as between the middle vertical counterpart (MVC) and the anterior vertical counterpart (AVC), as obtained from both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional analyses. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test was applied for each variable to check whether data were normally distributed and a paired Student's t-test was performed. The level of statistical significance was .05. The comparison between three-dimensional PVC-MVC (-0.43 ± 0.37 cm) and two-dimensional PVC-MVC (-0.53 ± 0.36 cm) revealed no statistical difference (P = .27). Similarly, no significant difference (P = .28) was observed between two-dimensional MVC-AVC (-0.56 ± 0.34 cm) and three-dimensional MVC-AVC (-0.47 ± 0.37 cm). The method proposed by this study to realize the vertical track analysis on 3D images is valid and superimposable on that described by Enlow on lateral cephalograms.

A numerical approach to optimize the efficiency of a novel HTL-free Sr3Ti2S7 Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite solar cell

The exceptional environmental and structural stability of two-dimensional Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites has made them appealing candidates for high-performance perovskite solar cells. Besides, Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites can be synthesized using low-cost solution processing and have tunable bandgaps as compared to their conventional three-dimensional counterparts. Therefore, a Ruddlesden–Popper perovskite solar cell has been reported in this investigation and the SCAPS program has been used to theoretically study the device performance of the proposed lead-free, environmentally friendly perovskite solar cell. A novel Sr3Ti2S7 material has been utilized as the light absorber for the first time in such a theoretical study. Two different configurations, employing WS2 and C60 electron transport layers have been presented and device simulations have been performed to optimize the solar cell. The utilization of C60 as an electron transport material did not prove to be beneficial for the solar cell as it suffered from major recombination losses. It was also found that higher doping concentration of the electron transport materials could help these cells achieve improved fill factor. The diffusion length of the electrons and holes with respect to absorber defect density was also determined. Mott-Schottky analysis proved that the ITO/C60/Sr3Ti2S7/Au structure had a lower flatband potential compared to ITO/WS2/Sr3Ti2S7/Au. Additionally, from the impedance spectroscopy results, the recombination lifetime of the ITO/WS2/Sr3Ti2S7/Au configuration was found to be 46.7 μs compared to only 12.9 μs for the ITO/C60/Sr3Ti2S7/Au architecture. It was also established that if the thickness of the absorber and the bulk defect concentration were optimized the ITO/WS2/Sr3Ti2S7/Au and ITO/C60/Sr3Ti2S7/Au solar cells could achieve conversion efficiencies close to 11.0 % and 10.0 % respectively.

Effect of Dual-Organic Cations on the Structure and Properties of 2D Hybrid Perovskites as Scintillators.

Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite (HOIP) crystals show promise as scintillating materials for wide-energy radiation detection, outperforming their three-dimensional counterparts. In this study, we synthesized single crystals of (PEA2-xBZAx)PbBr4 (x ranging from 0.1 to 2), utilizing phenethylammonium (C6H5CH2CH2NH3+) and benzylammonium (C6H5CH2NH3+) cations. These materials exhibit favorable optical and scintillation properties, rendering them suitable for high light yield (LY) and fast-response scintillators. Our investigation, employing various techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), time-resolved (TR) PL, Raman spectroscopy, radioluminescence (RL), thermoluminescence (TL), and scintillation measurements, unveiled lattice strain induced by dual-organic cations in powder X-ray diffraction. Density functional theory analysis demonstrated a maximal 0.13 eV increase in the band gap with the addition of BZA cation addition. Notably, the largest Stokes shift of 0.06 eV was observed in (BZA)2PbBr4. The dual-organic cation crystals displayed >80% fast component scintillation decay time, which is advantageous for the scintillating process. Furthermore, we observed a dual-organic cations-induced enhancement of electron-hole transfer efficiency by up to 60%, with a contribution of >70% to the fast component of scintillation decay. The crystal with the lowest BZA concentration, (PEA1.9BZA0.1)PbBr4, demonstrated the highest LYs of 14.9 ± 1.5 ph/keV at room temperature. Despite a 55-70% decrease in LY for BZA concentrations >5%, simultaneous reductions in scintillation decay time (12-32%) may work for time-of-flight positron emission tomography and photon-counting computed tomography. Our work underscores the crucial role of dual-organic cations in advancing our understanding of 2D-HOIP crystals for materials science and radiation detection applications.

Defects in Halide Perovskites: Does It Help to Switch from 3D to 2D?

Two-dimensional (2D) organic-inorganic hybrid iodide perovskites have been put forward in recent years as stable alternatives to their three-dimensional (3D) counterparts. Using first-principles calculations, we demonstrate that equilibrium concentrations of point defects in the 2D perovskites PEA2PbI4, BA2PbI4, and PEA2SnI4 (PEA, phenethylammonium; BA, butylammonium) are much lower than in comparable 3D perovskites. Bonding disruptions by defects are more destructive in 2D than in 3D networks, making defect formation energetically more costly. The stability of 2D Sn iodide perovskites can be further enhanced by alloying with Pb. Should, however, point defects emerge in sizable concentrations as a result of nonequilibrium growth conditions, for instance, then those defects likely hamper the optoelectronic performance of the 2D perovskites, as they introduce deep traps. We suggest that trap levels are responsible for the broad sub-bandgap emission in 2D perovskites observed in experiments.

Critical assessment of G0W0 calculations for 2D materials: the example of monolayer MoS2

Two-dimensional (2D) materials combine many fascinating properties that make them more interesting than their three-dimensional counterparts for a variety of applications. For example, 2D materials exhibit stronger electron-phonon and electron-hole interactions, and their energy gaps and effective carrier masses can be easily tuned. Surprisingly, published band gaps of several 2D materials obtained with the GW approach, the state-of-the-art in electronic-structure calculations, are quite scattered. The details of these calculations, such as the underlying geometry, the starting point, the inclusion of spin-orbit coupling, and the treatment of the Coulomb potential can critically determine how accurate the results are. Taking monolayer MoS2 as a representative material, we employ the linearized augmented planewave + local orbital method to systematically investigate how all these aspects affect the quality of G0W0 calculations, and also provide a summary of literature data. We conclude that the best overall agreement with experiments and coupled-cluster calculations is found for G0W0 results with HSE06 as a starting point including spin-orbit coupling, a truncated Coulomb potential, and an analytical treatment of the singularity at q = 0.

Generalized geometric pore size distribution code GPSD-3D for periodic systems composed of monodisperse spheres

The generalized geometric pore size distribution P(r;rp|rc) as function of pore radius r, probe sphere radius rp, and coating thickness rc for a periodic two-dimensional system composed of circles (GPSD-2D) had been defined recently. For rp=rc=0 it reduces to the widely accepted pore radius distribution P(r) introduced by Gelb and Gubbins. The three-dimensional counterpart GPSD-3D for periodic systems composed of spheres is implemented here using an efficient Voronoi-based semi-analytic strategy that offers significant advantages compared with both a grid-based implementation and constrained nonlinear optimization with respect to speed, precision and memory requirements. Proximity-Induced Exchange Interaction: A New Pathway for Quantum Sensing Using Spin Centers in Hexagonal Boron Nitride.

Defects in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), a two-dimensional van der Waals material, have attracted a great deal of interest because of its potential in various quantum applications. Due to hBN's two-dimensional nature, the spin center in hBN can be engineered in the proximity of the target material, providing advantages over its three-dimensional counterparts, such as the nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond. Here we propose a novel quantum sensing protocol driven by exchange interaction between the spin center in hBN and the underlying magnetic substrate induced by the magnetic proximity effect. By first-principles calculation, we demonstrate that the induced exchange interaction dominates over the dipole-dipole interaction by orders of magnitude when in the proximity. The interaction remains antiferromagnetic across all stacking configurations between the spin center in hBN and the target van der Waals magnets. Additionally, we explored the scaling behavior of the exchange field as a function of the spatial separation between the spin center and the targets.

Consideration of electronic mean heat transport via a low dimension system

The object of research is the complex realm of energy localization and coherent ballistic electronic transport within low-dimensional silicon quantum wires, specifically those doped with germanium atoms. Unlike their three-dimensional counterparts, low-dimensional systems exhibit unique electronic transport behaviors, necessitating novel analytical approaches for a comprehensive understanding. The core of this investigation leverages the Phase Field Matching Theory (PMFT) and the tight-binding (TB) approximation, sophisticated methodologies that enable a deep dive into the quantum mechanical nuances of these systems. Through this lens, we examine the intricate dynamics of dispersion relationships, phase factors, group velocities, and notably, the impact of defects introduced by the germanium doping. This research meticulously analyzes how these defects affect electronic and thermal conductivities, along with densities of states, offering new insights into the role of Fano resonances in the fluctuation of transmission and reflection spectra. These resonances, we find, are crucially dependent on the nature of the defects, their configuration, and the electronic parameters in their vicinity, underscoring the nuanced interplay between material composition and electronic properties in low-dimensional systems. The implications of our findings extend far beyond the theoretical. They pave the way for significant advancements in nanotechnology and the design of electronic devices, highlighting the potential for creating more efficient, high-performance components. Furthermore, this work proposes a framework for developing non-destructive testing methodologies that could revolutionize material science by enabling the precise analysis of defects in low-dimensional systems without causing damage. This is particularly critical for the ongoing development of materials with optimized properties for various applications, from electronics to energy storage. In essence, this research not only enriches our understanding of the physics governing low-dimensional systems but also offers practical insights into leveraging these properties for technological innovation. By bridging the gap between theoretical physics and material science, our study sets the stage for the next generation of electronic components and non-destructive evaluation techniques, marking a significant step forward in the application of quantum mechanics to real-world challenges.

High-performance quasi-2D perovskite solar cells enabled by using π-conjugated spacer

The excellent photoelectric properties and low fabrication cost of perovskite solar cells have attracted extensive research attention. Despite this, long-term stability issues associated with perovskite solar cells continue to pose a significant barrier to commercialization. A new generation of two-dimensional (2D) and quasi-2D perovskites and newly introduced members of the 2D material family, have attracted growing attention due to their excellent stability and physical properties in contrast to their three-dimensional (3D) counterparts. Herein, we have presented the feasibility of using 4,4[Formula: see text]-dipyridyl as an additive material for quasi-2D perovskite solar cells. As a result of the addition of 4,4[Formula: see text]-dipyridyl, the solar cell device achieves a power conversion efficiency of 17.92% and a fill factor of 76.5%. Additionally, this strategy can be expanded to quasi-2D perovskite solar cells with an open-circuit voltage of 1.05[Formula: see text]V.

Toward a three-dimensional counterpart of Cruse’s theorem

Completing partial latin squares is NP-complete. Motivated by Ryser’s theorem for latin rectangles, in 1974, Cruse found conditions that ensure a partial symmetric latin square of order m m can be embedded in a symmetric latin square of order n n . Loosely speaking, this results asserts that an n n -coloring of the edges of the complete m m -vertex graph K m K_m can be embedded in a one-factorization of K n K_n if and only if n n is even and the number of edges of each color is at least m − n / 2 m-n/2 . We establish necessary and sufficient conditions under which an edge-coloring of the complete λ \lambda -fold m m -vertex 3-graph λ K m 3 \lambda K_m^3 can be embedded in a one-factorization of λ K n 3 \lambda K_n^3 . In particular, we prove the first known Ryser type theorem for hypergraphs by showing that if n ≡ 0 ( m o d 3 ) n\equiv 0\ (\mathrm {mod}\ 3) , any edge-coloring of λ K m 3 \lambda K_m^3 where the number of triples of each color is at least m / 2 − n / 6 m/2-n/6 , can be embedded in a one-factorization of λ K n 3 \lambda K_n^3 . Finally we prove an Evans type result by showing that if n ≡ 0 ( m o d 3 ) n\equiv 0\ (\mathrm {mod}\ 3) and n ≥ 3 m n\geq 3m , then any q q -coloring of the edges of any F ⊆ λ K m 3 F\subseteq \lambda K_m^3 can be embedded in a one-factorization of λ K n 3 \lambda K_n^3 as long as q ≤ λ ( n − 1 2 ) − λ ( m 3 ) / ⌊ m / 3 ⌋ q\leq \lambda \binom {n-1}{2}-\lambda \binom {m}{3}/\left \lfloor m/3\right \rfloor .

Epitaxial Growth of Two-Dimensional MWW Zeolite.

Two-dimensional (2D) zeolite, with a high aspect ratio, has more open skeletons and accessible active sites than its three-dimensional (3D) counterpart. However, traditional methods of obtaining 2D zeolites often cause structural damage and widespread skeleton defects, hindering efficient selectivity in molecular separation. In this study, we present, for the first time, a direct epitaxial synthesis of 2D zeolite (Epi-MWW) guided by hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) with a coincidence matching of site lattices to MWW zeolite. The as-grown Epi-MWW zeolite possesses a high crystallinity and intact hexagonal 2D morphology, with an average thickness of 10 nm and an aspect ratio of over 50. Thanks to its excellent molecular accessibility, the diffusion time constants of o-xylene (OX) and p-xylene (PX) are as 12 and 133 times higher than those of conventional MCM-22, respectively; the PX/OX selectivity of Epi-MWW is 7.4 times better than MCM-22 as calculated by the ideal adsorbed solution theory.

Ionic liquid tailoring defect/interface-induced recombination loss toward efficient Dion-Jacobson quasi-2D perovskite solar cells

Dion-Jacobson (DJ) quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) perovskites have emerged as a potential photovoltaic material due to their versatile n-layer variation and superior stable structure. However, compared to their three-dimensional counterparts, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of quasi-2D perovskite solar cells (PSCs) reported to date still lags behind the detailed balance (DB) limit for single-junction PSCs, which derives from the presence of non-radiative recombination loss. Herein, we demonstrated that the defect/interface-induced recombination loss in DJ quasi-2D PSCs could be significantly suppressed by introducing a green ionic liquid methylammonium acetate (MAAc) into (BDA)(MA)4Pb5I16 (n = 5) (BDA, 1,4-butanediamine) perovskite precursor. Both the film quality of 2D perovskites and the interfacial property of perovskite/charge transporting layer (CTL) were improved after introducing MAAc in precursor solution. Correspondingly, a champion PCE of 18.76 % with a remarkable open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 1.24 V was achieved. Through the quantitative loss analysis, which involved the calculation of photovoltaic parameters relative to DB limit and quasi-Fermi level splitting values, the improvement of PCE and Voc by introducing MAAc was mainly attributed to the reduction of defects in perovskite films and at perovskite/CTL interfaces, and the optimization of interfacial energy-level alignment. The present work provides a green solvent strategy for improving the performance of quasi-2D PSCs, and offers an insight into the fundamental physics of non-radiative recombination loss tailored by ionic liquid.

Quasi-2D MIL-100 (Fe) synthesis via benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid self-assembly: organic dye adsorption at room temperature with dramatically enhanced kinetics.

Amid increasing environmental pollution, two-dimensional materials have played pivotal roles in environmental remediation. However, two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks (2D-MOFs) have yet to be thoroughly explored. This study introduces a novel approach to synthesize 2D-MOFs, particularly focusing on MIL-100-(Fe), for the adsorption of emerging organic dyes. By harnessing the self-assembly of benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (BTC), we formed thin solid interfaces of BTC as building blocks to control the growth of MIL-100-(Fe). This resulted in quasi-2D structures that showed over a 35% increase in adsorption capacity and a 5.5-fold increase in the adsorption kinetics of Rhodamine B removal compared to their 3D counterparts. This new method overcomes traditional synthesis limitations, offering a replicable and high-yield procedure for 2D-MOF synthesis. Compared to its three-dimensional counterpart (3D MIL-100 Fe), the prepared adsorbent exhibited remarkably higher efficacy in the adsorption of Rhodamine B, with high structural stability and recyclability. The prepared adsorbent shows over 99% adsorption within 90 minutes for initial dye concentrations of 1-40 mg L-1via the Langmuir adsorption mechanism and pseudo-second-order kinetics. Our research pioneers a method for the synthesis of quasi 2D-MIL-100-(Fe), laying the groundwork for fabricating other 2D-MOF structures, particularly those based on carboxylic acids.

Stable two-dimensional tin-based perovskites for warm-white light emitters

Two-dimensional (2D) Sn-based organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites are useful materials for white light emitters due to their super high fluorescence efficiency and higher stability when compared to their three-dimensional (3D) counterparts. Herein, 2D Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskites (BA)2Sn(Br1-x Ix)4 (BA = n-butylammonium, x: 0–1) were prepared and regulated using halogen doping. As iodine content increased, the band gap of (BA)2Sn(Br1-xIx)4 was finely regulated from 2.35 eV to 2.0 eV, thereby tuning the photoluminescence from yellow to red with relatively high PLQY exceeding 40 %. The use of small amounts of Pb2+ to stabilize Sn2+ through the addition of PbO in the precursor solution resulted in high air- and photo stable (BA)2Pb0.1Sn0.9(Br–I)4 phosphors with bright yellow to red light. The mixture with (BA)2PbBr4 (blue light phosphor) followed by excitement by UV LED chips (285 nm) resulted in cold and warm white Sn–Br–I perovskite LEDs. The CIE coordinates and correlated color temperature (CCT) indicated Br0.4I0.6 LED as an ideal warm-white emitter with suitable CIE (0.352, 0.330) and CCT (4376.3 K). The prepared white LEDs showed high photo and air stability without significant luminescence decay (<5 % relative) under continuous UV light excitation over 200 min and exposure to air for 3 months.
