The general expressions governing the behavior of a beam of composite, open, thin-walled cross section subjected to nonuniform torsion are developed. These expressions are rewritten in series form for the case in which the cross section is composed of a series of flat plates of different materials. Numerical results are presented for a composite tee-section consisting of a concrete slab connected to a WF beam. These results indicate a significant increase in the torsional resistance of such sections due to composite action. Equations for determining the torsional properties of composite sections used in buildings and bridges are also presented.
