The inflammability of EP limits its wide application, and it is important to enhance its fire safety with appropriate flame retardants. In this study, a novel Zeolite@BM flame retardant was constructed based on the self-assembly of boric acid and melamine on the surface of zeolite. Synthetic Zeolite@BM incorporated into EP to strengthen its flame retardance. The incorporation of 10 wt% Zeolite@BM dramatically raised the flame retardation of EP. The LOI of EP climbed from 24.7 % to 27.4 %, reaching the V-0 level. Moreover, the PHRR, THR and TSP dropped significantly by 55.01 %, 29.14 % and 49.96 %, respectively. Zeolite@BM promotes char formation, minimizing thermolytic products emissions and significantly raising the fire retardance of EP. Therefore, Zeolite@BM endows EP with good flame retardancy, low smoke emission and heat release, providing a practicable and efficient strategy for using EP under high flame retardancy requirements.
